With a bazillion people reading the Scott Pilgrim series, and the movie in production, it’s a pretty sure bet that merch will fly off the shelves when the movie hits.  That is if Universal Studios Consumer Products Group can find someone to produce the clothing, accessories, action figures, novelties and whatnot.

When those figures do become available, I’m hoping they are the Bryan Lee O’Malley designs and not Michale Cera version.

I’m trying to keep this post as clean as possible, so I’m heavily editing my thoughts on the company that wants to slap its name and intellectual properties over anything and everything for a buck.  On the plus side if you like anything and everything Marvel, you’ll be happy to know that in the spring of 2010, you’ll be able to pick up all sorts of stuff at your local Walgreens.

Characters from Spider-Man Classic, Iron Man Classic, Hulk Classic, Marvel Comics Retro, Marvel Heroes, the Iron Man movie and the Hulk movie properties will grace toys, automotive accessories, pet products, photo department accessories, food gift sets, novelty candy, night lights, snow globes, holiday decorations, table and chair sets, wall decals, tumblers, posters, inflatables, flashlights and other products.

Interestingly, it looks like Hulk cologne won’t be featured in the beauty aisle.

Oh, hey, don’t forget about all that quality Major Spoilers merchandise we have for sale!  Yup, Major Spoilers Mouse Pads, T-Shirts, children’s clothing… no cologne or snow globes yet, but give us time, we’ve only been around for three years, while Marvel has been in the game for 70.

Geek1.jpg

Maybe it is the paranoia finally getting to me, but it seems the publishers are starting to figure out this whole web promotion thing, and instead of relying on the indie web sites (like this one), the comic publishers are starting to do their own thing.  DC launched its own blog site releasing DC news befor anyone else, and now Marvel is getting into the action figure arena with Geek-lactus.

What is Geek-lactus?  It’s a monthly video series hosted by Jasse Falcon, where he talks all about new Marvel merchandise.  On the plus side, Marvel is making these videos embeddable, which means more content for us…and more free advertising for Marvel.

On the plus side, all these companies launching their own web presence, only forces the rest of us to work harder to bring you a plethora of content.

Major Spoilers fan Josh P. was the first member of the Major Spoilers Legion to pick up the F’Continuity t-shirt we are selling in the store, and he sent along a picture to prove that he received it.

That shirt sure does look good!  And check out that shelf porn going on in the background.  I sense a Major Spoilers contest forming right now…

Thanks so much for being a fan of Major Spoilers, Josh!  There’s something special being put in the mail just for you.

Want to be part of the Major Spoilers experience, and want your own F’Continuity shirt?  Check out the Major Spoilers Store and order yours today!

jokerskimask.jpg

This ski mask has to be one of the most disturbing bits of clothing I’ve seen, and it can be yours for the low low price of $16.99.  While this certainly looks creepy, criminals are going to have a field day with this kind of ski mask as it makes it even harder to identify the perp.

What better way to show your support for DC and the upcoming Blackest Night storyline than by sporting a t-shirt of your favorite Lantern Corps.

All the colors are there, except white. But then again, we wouldn’t want to spoil the ending of the series.

I know George Lucas made a killing in the 70’s when he managed to secure the merchandising rights for Star Wars properties, that lead to those wonderful Star Wars bedsheets I used to have (sleeping with Princess Leia took on a whole new meaning), but check out the crazy stuff currently being hocked on eBay in an attempt to cash in on the upcoming movie.

Umbrella_scale.jpg

Gerard Way has managed to make quite a name for himself in the comics industry over the past year—racking up an Eisner for Best Limited Series, and a Harvey for Best New Series, for his breakthrough miniseries The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite.  In tandem with series artist, multiple-Eisner winner Gabriel Bá, Way has created a bizarre world which defies the space-time continuum, and pits a dysfunctional family of super-powered siblings against animated monuments, talking chimpanzees, a secret society of robot assassins, and each other.

Right on the heels of the first issue of Way/Bá’s highly anticipated follow-up series, The Umbrella Academy: Dallas, Dark Horse Deluxe is proud to announce the release of a new figure set depicting the six members of The Umbrella Academy introduced in Apocalypse Suite, as well as a book-and-figure set that includes a hardcover edition of the first collected graphic novel and a 4-inch figure of Vanya, AKA The White Violin, the shunned UA sibling with the sinister set of strings!

Press Release

zenoscopemerchandise.jpg

Fans of Zenescope’s dark and provocative fairy tale and Wonderland artwork are in for a treat as Zenescope unveils its line of silk screen printed designer t-shirts and custom skins.  Zenescope will also be adding mugs, glassware and wall decals early in 2009 as they continue to expand their line of products.

“The Zenescope brand is becoming more and more well-known even for those who might not read our comics, or any comics for that matter, very consistently.” says Zenescope VP Ralph Tedesco. “But we’re known as that company who puts dark, twisted and sexy spins on fairy tales and classic stories.  The great thing is these are powerful, eye-popping images and designs that absolutely have universal appeal and we’re finding that there’s a real appetite for them.  It all started with our comics; after a rather short time we found that readers were intrigued by these iconic images of familiar characters seen in an entirely new light.  Re-imagining Alice as a grown woman in a nightmare version of Wonderland is pretty damn cool in my opinion.  Re-creating Red Riding Hood as an ax-wielding heroine and the big bad wolf as a bigger and badder werewolf makes for some intense imagery.  So we’re just having fun creating this stuff and are glad that people are responding so well to it.”
You can check out Zenescope’s line of dark fairy tale items at www.zenescope.com and in their online store at www.zenescope.com/sunshop/.  New products will also be made available to retailers through Diamond Distribution or by contacting Zenescope directly at info@zenescope.com.

Dark Horse Comics has announced it will release merchandise and collectibles based on the upcoming Frank Miller movie adaptation of Will Eisner’s The Spirit.  First up is a bust, based on the likeness of Gabriel Macht, who plays the title character for the movie.  Dark Horse is following that up with The Spirit Statue, a snow globe, and a journal, so you can write down all your deepest secrets.

superboycostume.jpgOver 1000 iconic Hollywood items go up on the auction block August 2 and 3, with one of the more interesting items being the Superboy Tom Welling costume worn by John Haymes Newton in that 1980s television series Tom Welling Superboy.

According to the eBay Live Auction site, the costume is expected to go for between $3,000 and $5,000.

Other Superman items on auction include an original 1970 letter from Jerry Siegel looking for work, Billy Curtis (The lead ‘moleman’) costume from Superman and the Mole-Men ($3,000-$5,000), Original concept sketches of Superman’s childhood on the farm from Superman: The Movie ($2,000-$3,000), Fortress of Solitude clear crystal from Superman: The Movie ($800-$1,000), Three prop newspapers from the Superman films ($300-$500), and a Kryptonite Box from Superman III ($2,000-$3,000).

Considering I didn’t get to go to San Diego this year, perhaps I’ll use that money to bid on that costume so it can be added to the Collection Room of Major Spoilers HQ.
