Image Comics Meltdown met with a lot of favorable reviews. The two-issue series tells the tale of superhero literally and figuratively having a meltdown. The art by Sean Wang was outstanding, and over the last several months, Wang and I have been sending each other e-mails about his upcoming and past work including the recently reviewed Runners and The Tick comics.

Meltdown Trade Announced

Friday, May 18th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

It was just under a year ago when I got my hands on the first issue of Meltdown by David B. Schwartz and Sean Wang. I was blown away by the story and art, giving it a solid five stars and a place in The Major Spoilers Best of 2006 list. David sent me an email, letting me know the trade paperback is set for release on July 5.

“We’ve got the full 96 pages of story that were in issues one and two,” says Schwartz, “but there’s gonna be a lot more than that. We’re really thinking of this like an ultimate edition DVD release, and packing it with tons of great bonus features.”

What else is going to be in this collection? Take the jump for the new cover by Chris Bachalo and a pin-up by Micah Gunnell.

Best of 2006

Monday, January 1st, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

bestoftheyearsmall.jpgWhile I have no problem writing Best Of and Top Ten lists, this is my first year coming up with a Best Of list for comics, and it has been a real challenge. First there is the whole “thousands of titles out there” deal, then there is the fact that these kinds of lists are a touchy subject to write. What may be on my Best Of list, is on the @$$ List for someone else. Regardless, it’s time to look back over the year and see what was tops when it came to comics.

Meltdown

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

reviewbubble.jpgmeltdownpicon.jpgEver have a really bad day?

I’ve had my fair share of days where I’ve felt like everything I’ve done has been for naught.  Whether it be yelling at someone when I was in the wrong, or continuing to make mistake after mistake instead of correcting the main problem, life can really seem like a rotten experience sometimes.

The Flare has had one of those lives, and he’s about to have a meltdown.

Meltdown Makes Front Page

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

meltdown01.jpgImage Comics has informed us, their two issue mini-series Meltdown by David Schwartz and Sean Wang, was featured on the cover of the Miami Herald this week.  The feature story focuses on the creators and their road to success with this debut title.

The 35-year-old Miami natives [Meltdown creators David Schwartz and Sean Wang] have followed their childhood dreams into a second career producing Meltdown, a highly anticipated comic book about a superhero called The Flare. But Meltdown…doesn’t just fulfill the dream of two young men with good imaginations. It also breaks tradition with most successful comic book franchises, which set the scenes of their adventures mostly in New York — aka Gotham or Metropolis — or Los Angeles.

Successful screenwriters have long advised those scribes breaking into the biz to write what the own, or to write what they know.  In the case of Meltdown Schwartz said, “It only makes sense to base a good portion of the story in South Florida, because it is where we grew up and it is the place that inspired us. And if you can’t draw enough inspiration from your hometown, then where can you get it?”
Meltdown hits shops on December 6th, 2006 for a retail price of $5.99.

Early Review of Meltdown Positive

Monday, October 2nd, 2006--by Image Comics

meltdown01.jpgAlthough it doesn’t even hit stands until December, reviewers are already in love with the new Image Comics series MELTDOWN. Early rough draft copies of the book that have made it into the hands of reviewers have received some of the most overwhelmingly positive reviews in recent memory.

Astoundingly, no reviewer has given MELTDOWN anything less than their highest rating. It has garnered 5 out of 5 bullets on SilverBulletComicBooks.com, 5 out of 5 stars on ComicCritique.com, and Comic Buyer’s Guide made it their Pick of the Month with 4 out of 4 stars.
