Vampires are all the rage at the moment, which is probably why Tony Lee and Peter-Davis Douglas and Neil Antwerpen have cooked up a sequel to the original Dracula tale called From The Pages of Bram Stoker’s Dracula: Harker.
A ghostly visit from the past informs Jonathan Harker that the legacy of Count Dracula isn’t over, for there was one last bride, the Countess Von Gratz, otherwise known as the Countess Dracule, a Vampire never seen in the classic novel – and she intends to travel to London to reap revenge on the people who killed her late husband, as well as take for her own nefarious means the unborn child of Mina and Jonathan Harker.
According to Tony Lee, this is the first graphic novel sequel to get approval from the Stoker family.
‘We are honoured to have people such as Dacre Stoker, Ian Holt and Leslie Klinger involved in our book, if only in a small way.’ Said Harry Markos, publisher of AAM/Markosia. ‘Tony met with Leslie in January, then Dacre and Ian in New York in February, and since then they’ve been incredibly helpful and supportive of our project. With so many ‘sequels’ out there that have no loyalty to the original book, it’s great that a book that does stay faithful to its source material gets such a windfall.’
Cool…

AAM/Markosia has announced a new Starship Troopers one-shot called War Stories: Tasch, that arrives in stores in December 2008. War Stories: Tasch is written by Cy Dethan with art by Neil van Antwerpen and Peter-David Douglas.
Cy Dethan explains, “‘War Stories: Tasch’ is essentially an “origin” piece. Before signing up for Pathfinder training, Private Naomi Tasch was a specialised sniper, working alongside a Mk-II combat Neodog. Neodogs are genetically and cybernetically altered animals with enhanced intelligence and physical attributes, linked to their handlers through a complex set of implants. During a full-scale planetary evacuation, Tasch’s Neodog partner goes missing and she puts her career and life on the line to find him. In doing so, she demonstrates the loyalty, single-mindedness and raw brilliance that will one day make a Pathfinder out of her.”

AAM/Markosia sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of Starship Troopers #9 that features three stories in one issue.

Another comic publisher is looking to the web to attract new readers as AAM/Markosia has announced it has formed a new web comic division, and will feature Baby Boomers and Digging for Apples as its two kick-off titles.
“I am extremely excited by these two new properties,” says publisher Harry Markos. “They are in complete contrast to anything we’ve ever done before. ‘Baby Boomers’ is hilarious, I can only describe it as ‘two babies beating the crap out of each other when their parents aren’t looking!’ ‘Digging For Apples’ is our first foray into Manga — something I have been keen to explore for a while now. Donna Stewart has come up with an amazing story drawn in that style, but in full and lush color.”
The company says the stories will be collected for print once the web run has ended.

If you happen to be in London this weekend (May 24 and 25), and are attending the London MCM Expo, check out what AAM/Markosia is offering.
Markosia will be selling many trades for £4 each or 3 for £10, and most newer trades will be 50% off. The high profile independent publisher will also feature the following creators signing at the booth most of the weekend:
Rich Johnston (Flying Friar, Lying in the Gutters)
Annika Eade (Dark Mists)
Ian Sharman (11th Hour, Kong: King of Skull Island, Flying Friar)
Tony Lee (Hope Falls, Midnight Kiss, Starship Troopers, and many more!)
Dan Boultwood (Hope Falls)
Cy Dethan (Starship Troopers)
Andy Briggs (Kong: King of Skull Island)
You can also catch publisher Harry Marko at the show talking it up with fans.

With the success of Mouse Guard, I expect to see many more anthropomorphized fuzzy critters running around in comics.

What’s that saying? You can’t keep a good man down? Such is the case with Lazarus, the brand new title from AAM/Markosia, publishers of King Kong, Startship Troopers, and The Boy Who Made Silence.
Publisher Harry Markos, states, “I am very excited about this title, which I am confident is going to attract a ton of positive reviews. Joseph’s script is amazing, you can see almost immediately that this is no ordinary take on the Lazarus story but something quite unique and remarkable. The stunning art brings the tale to life and immerses the reader into a dark and frenetic world filled with all manner of intrigue and action. It’s going to surprise a lot of people!”
AAM/Markosia has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek at the six issue mini-series that arrives in June.

AAM/Markosia has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek at the second issue of the Boy Who Made Silence by Joshua Hagler.

AAM/Markosia has launched a brand new website to showcase their titles. The site features news, previews, and links for everything related to the company.
Publisher Harry Markos explains, “We have a very exciting year ahead of us, with some groundbreaking new titles such as The Boy Who Made Silence, Lazarus: Immortal Coils, N-Guard, and Sunset to name but a few, and we are very keen to show people the positive direction that we are moving in. The new website, which was launched recently, will feature two new web comics by the end of April, as well as offering visitors the opportunity to download the first issue of every series that we have published for free. It will be updated on a much more regular basis, which was something we lacked previously and which was a constant source of irritation to many of our loyal supporters. It is an exciting time for us and we hope that we can show people that we are here for the long run.”
