On the Next Major Spoilers Podcast - WOOT ALERT!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

markwaidpodcast.jpg

Hey everybody!  If you have been listening to the Major Spoilers Podcast since the beginning, you know we are big big fans of Mark Waid.  Well tonight, Matthew, Rodrigo and I had the pleasure of chatting it up with Mr. Waid, the Editor in Chief of Boom! Studios, for next week’s show.

We had a limited time, but we were able to cover topics ranging from his tenure at Boom!, differences in small and big companies, the problems with the industry (and possible fixes), what Mr. Waid likes and dislikes about his own work, and the idea of leaving behind a legacy that others can build on.  We even used some of your questions during our chat.  It was a great conversation, and we hope you all download the show when it hits the interwebs next week.  You’ll also want to listen to the show to find out what “special” gift we have for all of you to celebrate Major Spoilers’ Second Birthday.

WOOT! I’m flying high on cloud right now!

If you could ask one question…

If you could ask one question of Mr. Mark Waid, what would it be, and why?

Throw your questions and comments in the talk back below.

I’m not saying why I want to know, but if you have followed my cryptic messages in the past, you might have some idea…

Mark Waid New Writer for Spider-Man

Saturday, April 19th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

It’s been announced at the New York Comic Con and over at the Myspace Comic Books page that Mark Waid will be taking a crack at the web head in Amazing Spider-Man.

Says Joe Quesada:

That is the beauty of [Spider-Man Editor] Steve Wacker. Steve and [Executive Editor] Tom Brevoort reached out to Mark, and I’ve always been a fan of his work. And I really loved the House of M: Spider-Man issues he did. It’s just a natural match, a natural pairing, to put him on that book if the timing and schedules work out. And they did.

I think what Mark brings to the book is a great sense of humor, and his ability to write young characters. Mark has a great “range” he can write in. He’s very well-rounded. But he has this light, airy style he brings when he writes young characters that’s great to read.

This is certainly an interesting turn of events. Looks like we’ll be seeing a younger Peter Parker, and with Mark Waid at the controls, the tales being spun should be “spectacular”. Lots more information can be found at the Myspace site.

Wendy Wallace Named GM for Boom! Studios

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Boom! Studios has announced Wendy Wallace will be the General Manager for the company.

“Wendy is perfect to keep BOOM! running like clockwork. I’m truly excited to have her aboard in such a critical capacity as our GM. When it comes to organization and efficiency, Wendy doesn’t mess around. What’s more, she brings out a professionalism in those around her while still inspiring a highly creative atmosphere,” said Mark Waid, BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief. “Also, she has a mean left hook.”

The appointment of Ms. Wallace to General Manager completes the company’s executive team following last year’s appointment of Mark Waid as Editor-In-Chief

When you consider Boom! Studios has been selling their properties left and right to movie studios, it comes as no surprise to learn that Wallace previously worked for Universal Studios on such shows as Monk, Invisible Man, and Battlestar Galactica, and more recently was the Co-Producer for Sci-Fi Channel’s Eureka.

The Flash #232: Wild Wild Wests Part 2

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

Spit on your wife and see what happens

picon.jpg

I’m glad Wally and Linda are back. I’m sad DC had to kill Bart to do it. With the latest installment of the adventures of the 3rd Flash, Wally, Linda, Jai, and Iris are confronted with their first major conflict, but the family outing isn’t going so well. Does Flash #232 suffer the same fate?

All Flash #1 - Justice Like Lightning

Monday, July 23rd, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

Waid returns, makes fans happy

picon.jpg

I know it has been out for a week now, but since I won’t be attending the Comic-Con this year, I thought I’d get caught up on a few reviews I’ve been meaning to get to. Up first is All-Flash #1 that features the returns of Wally West and Mark Waid to the series. It’s also a sad moment as Bart Allen leaves us, but as Zoom would say, “That which hurts us, makes us stronger”. Is that the case with Wally and this issue?

DC Comics Sneak Peek: All-Flash #1

Thursday, July 5th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

picon.jpg

Here it is, the issue that is fast on the heels of Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #13. I’m excited about this issue for two reason; first it is the return of Wally West and his dealings with Bart’s death, second it is the return of Mark Waid as the series writer. Shame about the cover though…

DC Comics has made a preview of All-Flash #1 available for your prying eyes.

Mark Waid Returns to the Flash

Friday, June 15th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

flash232piconpromo.jpg

Way back in the day, the one writer who made me a huge fan of everything Flash was Mark Waid. He had a super run (pun intended) on the series, and today DC announced Waid would be returning to Flash this fall.

But wait, that’s not all! Flash: The Fastest Man Alive will be ending with issue #13, and the new series will pick up with Flash #231 written by Waid, with penciler Daniel Acuna. This September we’ll also get a one shot called All Flash #1 with a slew of artists.

But what Flash will Waid be writing about? What will happen in next week’s Flash #13?

In an interview with Newsarama, Waid said, “Yeah. Those who pick up the last issue of Flash: The Fastest Man Alive next week will get a big part of it there, and those who pick up the end of the Justice League/Justice Society team-up the same day, when it ships, will get another gigantic part of the puzzle right there too. And then we just continue the momentum from there. We talked about a million ways to go with it, but this is going to be huge. It’s really, truly huge.”

Ooo! Ooo! If you read that in the right frame of mind with everything else we’ve been talking about on this little site of ours, it does look like we may be seeing the return of Barry Allen next week!  Remember, as someone pointed out, Wally West technically isn’t dead.

Welcome back Mark! You were really missed on this series.

Wanting to maintain our embargo on the cover information (even though it has been posted on another site), I’ll just say this “Stay tuned for the complete DC rundown on Monday, which will feature the full cover image and the solicitation info as well.”
