The Dentmobile in KC this Friday

Thursday, March 20th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

harveydent.jpg

This is a shout out to all the Harvey Dent supporters in the Kansas City area. The Dentmobile will be in several locations around the area on Friday, March 21st, and you might want to get out for some photo and publicity opportunities.

Kansas City, KS
March 21st:

  • 5-6:15pm
The Plaza: Nichols Rd bet. Pennsylvania and Broadway
  • 7-8:15pm
    Westport: Broadway and Westport Rd.
  • 9-10pm
Power & Light District: Grand and 14th St.

Sadly I won’t be in the areas myself until Planet ComiCon April 5 and 6th, but Major Spoilers readers in the KC area, head on down and help out the Warner Bros. viral campaign…because we all know the Dark Knight movie needs more publicity.

Oh, and if you do make it to the Dentmobile and get your picture taken, I have a prize for the first person who sends me their picture holding the Major Spoilers sign in front of the Dentmobile (no Photoshopping allowed).

Help Promote the Major Spoilers Podcast

Friday, March 14th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

podcastlogosmall.jpgIf you missed it, the latest issue of the Major Spoilers Podcast is available now. The panel discusses DC’s New Frontier - Absolute Edition, and the New Frontier DVD. We also go over The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series, and discuss the costume design for the Watchmen movie.

Link to the latest episode.

I don’t usually ask readers for help - except your continued devotion to all things Major Spoilers (ha!), but please do us a big favor and tell your friends, folks hanging around the comic store, your neighbors, classmates, and so on. We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from listeners and we need all the support we can get in getting the word out.

The next issue (up Wednesday) features the panel reviewing Thor issues 1-6, and lots, lots more!

You may have noticed a couple of additions to the sidebar ->

  • The Recent Reviews section is back.  Here you can find the most recent reviews we’ve covered at Major Spoilers
  • A section devoted to the Major Spoilers podcast, with links to the RSS Feed, the iTunes Music Store, and the five most recent episodes.

And in the next few weeks, I’ll have some other news related to the Major Spoilers site, so keep coming back, and thanks from the bottom of my heart for spreading the word.

How to Review Manga

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Otaku USA has a great article on how to review manga titles the correct way.

mangareview.jpg

This could really catch on, and I’m thinking to help the movement, Major Spoilers should set up our own comic book tasting marathons. Of course we’d turn it into a drinking game with the following rules:

Take a drink when:

  • Batman is a dick
  • Superman strikes a pose to instill fear in the enemy
  • Wolverine appears in a title
  • someone in the room shouts “I’m not a Skrull, I swear!”
  • there is a reference to Tom Welling or Tom Welling Prime
  • someone complains that we are spoiling everything by giving away “too much”
  • Matthew tries to push Legion of Super-Heroes issues off on unsuspecting attendees
  • someone complains that the new writer isn’t as good as the old writer
  • someone exclaims the new writer is way better than the old writer
  • someone begins to get a little too excited about Power Girl’s costume
  • Spider-Man complains about how terrible his life has become
  • Aunt May nearly dies, but recovers at the last minute
  • Holly Robinson appears (probably a result of too many drinks)

Feel free to add your own to the list.

Forum or Comment?

Saturday, February 16th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

msforumbanner.jpg

The Major Spoilers Forum is back!

Well, it never really went away; it’s been up and active since this site first started, but in order to further comic and pop culture discussion, we’ve made it a more active part of Major Spoilers.

So this brings up the question, “Should I post my thoughts in the comments section, or on the Major Spoilers Forum?”

Here’s a good rule of thumb - if you want to make a comment about a particular article posted on the site, feel free to use the comment section beneath the post. This ensures your comments will forever be attached to the story. If you would like to have an in-depth discussion on a particular topic (SKRULLS! for example), feel free to head over to the forum and post to your heart’s content.

Access the forums by clicking the menu item at the top of the page.

Happy Holidays from Major Spoilers

Monday, December 24th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

When I was in college, I worked at the local radio station and ended up spending four years missing out on the holidays because I was low man on he totem pole. Fortunately, one Thanksgiving eve, while cooking a pot of stew for my holiday meal, I turned my television to the the recently launched Comedy Central where programmer thought it would be a great idea to run a marathon of a little show called Mystery Science Theater 3000. I fell in love with Joel and the bots instantly.

I think this song sums up what was so great about MST3Kk (well this and hamdingers - Here’s a gesture for you, kids!).

Have a happy holiday from all of us at Major Spoilers!
