Or – “Most People Don’t Know That His Full Name Is Manuel Labór.”

So, I have completed my daily labors, overseeing the dozen fellers and gals what make up the current workgroup to call themselves Team RamRod (”See, you’re Arkot Ramathorn… Ram. And I’m Rodney Farva… Rod. Team RamRod!”) and I am preparing to have some spaghetti and hang out with friends, but first I wanted to catch up with some of the many titles that I’ve neglected over the busy last days of August…
RAPID-FIRE REVIEW TIME!
Or – “Sir, I Protest! I Am NOT A Merry Man!!!”

Once again, we’ve come to the situation where Stately Spoilers Manor contains far more comics than there are days to review ‘em, leading once again unto the Final Frontier… NUQNEH – NOOKNEHH! Phasers on summarize!
Geoff Johns announced during the Smallville panel that he is writing an episode called Society that introduces the Justice Society of America to the Smallville universe.
Also announced during the panel is word that Allison Mack and Tom Welling will both direct episodes this season. And as we hinted at the other day, Clark Kent will don the Superman suit in the season’s debut episode. The producers do want the series to go to a 10th season, and are hoping the shows move to Friday night will help that. The appearance of Zod, played by Callum Blue, will help that as well.
The panel members also said they read all the blogs that talk about the shows – even when the talk is “mean”. Hello everyone from Smallville, take a look around, we have more Smallville stuff here too. Perhaps you might get Erica Durance to stop by and say hello…

Here’s our Rapid-Fire Roundup of items of interest that came from the first day of DC Comics panels at the San Diego Comic Con.
Or – “We Hold These Comics To Be Self-Evident…”

Today is American Independence Day, commonly referred to as July 4th, as it takes place on the 4th of July, hence the name, and that’s why the song is called Alice’s Restaurant… To all the faithful Spoilerites of the United States, Happy 4th of July. For those of you who are from elsewhere, sorry about all the hegemony and stuff. Either way, it’s time for another bout of our Rapid Fire Reviews, bite-sized chunks of comics that I either couldn’t write three paragraphs about, or ran out of time to cover. Give us your tired, your poorly drawn, your huddled masses of comics, yearning to be bagged in mylar…
Or – “Off To Meet My Doom, Mom! See You After School!”

Comic book publishing schedules puzzle me. The Twelve hasn’t come out in what seems like a year, while Agents of Atlas is apparently on a bi-weekly status, and Spider-Man is coming out every sixteen minutes or so. Wolverine alone accounts for half the forests destroyed in the United States every month. The major publishers can’t seem to decide whether it’s a market for the celebrity auteur writer, or whether it’s the characters who sell the books regardless of creator. When Wolverine #73 came out a few weeks ago (before the publication of #72) it occurred to me that the entire industry is run by the pointy-haired boss from Dilbert, and that I should really just relax.
Or – “The Long And Winding Road…”

I know that I’ve used that title before, but I make no apologies. In fact, I can pretty much guarantee I’ll do it again. As the Beatles last single, their last #1, and the song recorded during one of, if not the last sessions that the band did together, (the day after the legendary concert on the roof of Apple Records) that record pretty much serves as my touchstone for when things inevitably end. I used to try and play it as the last song of the last shift of each semester in college radio (I worked Friday nights, because I had no reason not to…) Usually, I try to avoid making these things all about me, but I hate endings, (especially in real life.) Somehow, though, those final moments are made less painful by Paul McCartney and a piano. Thus, I find myself in a perfect wheelhouse to review Geoff Johns swan song on the title he’s been writing for nearly a decade…

Next week (April 22, 2009) see’s the final Geoff Johns issue of Justice Society of America, and it also turns out to be Stargirl’s birthday. DC Comics has released a sneak peek of the issue, that you can see after the jump.
Or – “Additional Revenge of the Return of the Living Monolith!”

Woodland creatures with large-bore ballistic weapons?
Looks like it’s time for another round of RAPID-FIRE REVIEWS! With special guest star, Ted McGinnis! And Jerry Mathers as the Stephen!
Or – “Seems Like Some Characters Just Can’t Hack It In The Hero Bidness…”

There are those in our Major Spoilers audience who question Black Adam’s use as an anti-hero figure in JSA. It’s a valid criticism, as the man has shown himself repeatedly to be a sadistic, brutal figure, willing to use the powers of Shazam to rip apart anyone who stands in his way. Of course, if he were a Marvel hero, he’d probably fit right in, wouldn’t he?
Something to think about…
Or – “Black Adam! Black Adam! Wherever I Go, Heee Goes…”

“Offer me money. ..”
“Yes!
“Power, too, promise me that.”
“All that I have and more. Please…”
“Offer me anything I ask for.”
“Anything you want…”
“I want my father back, you son of a b!+ch!”

Geoff Johns made it official with his announcement that he is leaving Justice Society of America after issue #26.
The JSA to me represents everything good about life, work and superheroes. In life, generations past, present and future all provide different viewpoints. There can be something magical when its past from grandfather to father to son or from mother to daughter or son to grandfather. Theres nothing more important than family and family means a lot more than just blood relatives. Thats what my very first book, STARS & S.T.R.I.P.E., was about and thats what JSA, and life, is about.
So why am I leaving?
I have more stories to tell, and the characters are endless, but thats also true for the DC Universe. Im ready to move on to some other challenges like returning to THE FLASH and SUPERMAN: SECRET ORIGIN. And I am also obsessed with making sure that GREEN LANTERN, BLACKEST NIGHT and everything around it is the absolute best it can possibly be. and thats only part of 2009. There are some new projects on the horizon.
Geoff is doing a heck of a lot of work in the DCU right now – it’s almost like you can’t pick up a DC title without seeing his name on the cover. With the hype building for Blackest Night, it’s probably a good idea that Johns pulls back and focuses on the core titles. The Thy Kingdom Come storyline has been okay, but it’s also dragged on for some time, so maybe it is time for a rest. Besides, he didn’t say he wouldn’t ever write JSA again, so there is always a chance for return.
Sometimes a short review is a good thing

I wasn’t too keen on spinning the “Kingdom Come has come to Earth Prime” story line out of the JSA title and into one-shots and specials just to get more money out of readers. However, in the case of Kingdom Come Special: Magog, it was the best decision.
