Mattel Unveils JLU Question

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Question_Tease_Picon.jpg

The figure that everyone has been asking for for the last three years is finally getting made.  Mattel has told Action Figure Insider that it will be unveiling the JLU Question this week at San Diego.  Head over to the ACI site to see the full image, it looks great!

Now if only the company had made a Renee Montoya figure from the Batman Animated Series, the grooviness would be complete.

Emmy Nod for DC’s New Frontier

Friday, July 18th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Yesterday the Emmy nominations were announced with the incredibly awesome HBO series John Adams receiving the most nominations (23).  Further down the list, DC’s New Frontier made it on the Animated Program (One hour or more) list alongside Family Guy’s Blue Harvest and South Park’s Imaginationland episodes.

Hands down New Frontier should get the award, but everyone in H’wood seems to be in love with Seth MacFarlane, so don’t be surprised if the Star Wars parody walks away with the award.

Each wave will consist of two 6-packs, two 3 packs and five single carded figures, some with brand new accessories. This line will be sold exclusively at Target stores starting Aug 1, 2008. At this time the line will be an in store exclusive only.

Remember Toy Fair This Weekend

Thursday, February 14th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

CustomConGroupShot.jpg

toyfairlogo.jpgIf you are one of the lucky few to be in New York next week, don’t forget the annual Toy Fair will be going on from February 17 to the 20th. I really wish I could go because I’m very excited about seeing the next way of the DC Universe Classics figures, including the giant build a figure Grundy.

One of the surprising figure sets that continue to be released is the JLU figures from a television series that has been off the air for a couple of years. I always make a beeline to the toy aisle of the local Target every chance I get to see if the latest figures are on the shelf. Unfortunately, the local Target is an hour and a half away as my little town only has a Wal-Mart, which does not carry any DC action figures (THOSE BASTARDS!).

While we probably won’t be seeing figures based on those above, the custom figures created by Jason Brashear do make me wish Mattel would continue to keep the series going until every single DCU character is released.

JLA Mysteries Revealed as Interweb Hoax

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

jlapiconfinal.jpg

Remember how crazy I said the latest rumors from IESB were regarding the JLA movie? Turns out all the BS was in fact complete bullshit whipped up by someone trying to embarrass the IESB site.

the second email i sent IESB is the one they recently posted on the site from “Action Boy!”. the information and story treatment is full of completely ridiculous statements and ideas (unlike the previous scoop who’s info was far more reasonable). roberts response to this email was very courteous and not very inquisitive as to it’s legitimacy nor demanding of any proof that im legit (completely opposite of his response to the other “scoop”). but he was inquisitive for me to get more info for him. he said he’d like to ask me a few questions, and before i even responded to his request the scoop was posted on the site, not even 24 hours after it was sent. clearly, no research was even attempted in order to verify any of the info involved, yet they clearly deemed it newsworthy enough to post.

So there you go. IESB was trying to get a lot of link love by posting crazy rumors and ended up losing all credibility over it. Don’t worry Spoilerinoes, you won’t be see any more links to IESB anytime soon.

WTF is going on with the JLA?

Friday, August 31st, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

jlacrazyassshit.jpg

IESB has either gone full scale bonkers, or has really been doing its work on digging into the JLA film.

Would you believe not only will the film have Martian Manhunter, but also the OMACS, the killing of Max Lord by Wonder Woman, Checkmate, and Darkseid killing Superman? Yeah, I don’t believe it either, it’s just way over the top, and from the plot summary by Action Boy, seems rather lame; jam packed with waaaay too much story than could reasonably be contained in a two hour movie and still make sense. Mr. Action’s description actually makes me want to see David Goyer’s Super Max over this film.

You can read the whole thing over at the site, but it sounds like someone was watching an early copy of Death of Superman DVD, reading Infinite Crisis, and the OMACS series simultaneously, while smoking a bit of the holy herb and started tripping. Seriously, if this is the real film summary, Warner Bros. should have dropped the $20 million paycheck at my door, and I would have whipped something up (free tip #2: Make Lex Luthor a reluctant good guy).

Oh and apparently this fast-tracked film will feature a bunch of not well known actors and Leonardo DiCaprio as Aquaman - the lamest character on the team. Since Routh and Bale (and now apparantly Tom Welling) won’t be playing any of the major roles, why would Leo go for King Lame of the Sea?

Is it sounding crazy messed up to you too? Everything seems so far fetched, that I wouldn’t be surprised if all this stuff is being made up for Link Love Friday.

Well here you go gents: via IESB.net

(free tip #3: Start the film with The Question tracking a mystery).

Latest Crazy JLA Movie Rumor

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

laurencefishburne.jpgYes, the rumors continue from the IESB.net website. Today the gumshoes of comic filmdom are spreading gossip that the OMACS and white Martians would be playing heavies in the Justice League of America film (you know, the one that Tom Welling is supposedly in).

And speaking of Martians, Martian Manhunter may be played by Laurence Fishburne.

The rumoring goes on to say Ryan Reynolds is still on for the Flash, Maxwell Lord makes an appearance, and George Miller has been watching a lot of the Justice League cartoons.

I love rumors, they get the Interweb community’s panties in such a bind with trolls coming out of the woodwork proclaiming their own truth or debunking the rumors with, “suchandsuchsite.com says those rumors are false! It said so on that other Internets site so it must be true!”

Take it for what it is worth true believers, a rumor is just that, a rumor.  I still think a JLU all CGI movie done in the vein of Final Fantasy would rock everyone’s balls to the wall, and I would personally see that flick in the theatre five times (maybe even back to back).  But I don’t think that will happen, as I’m sitting here in the middle of nowhere, and not in an expensive Hollywood home’s hot tub with two hot girls named Jessica, while telling Charisma Carpenter why she can’t come over tonight. In other words, until Warner Bros. offers me a big check, I’m keeping my ideas to myself (free tip #1: hire Paul Dini and Bruce Timm before proceeding).

JLA as a CGI?

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

cgijla.jpg

Rumors are flying fast and furious over the Justice League of America movie. We’ve had reports that the Big Seven would be featured in the film, but that was followed up a few days later with info that neither Brandon Routh nor Christian Bale would be involved in the project. So what gives?

IESB has been trying to put all the pieces together and has come up with a possible answer - The Justice League of America movie will be an all CGI affair.

This explains why Happy Feet director George Miller is set to direct the piece.

This would put our League of Superheroes in a world much like Paramount’s Beowulf or Cameron’s Avatar, where they could hire any actor they wanted and tweak and change them accordingly.

If this is indeed the case, then I’m all for it. I think you would be able to do so much more in a full CGI environment than you could using live actors. But instead of going the Polar Express route, I would hope the look of the film is closer to Final Fantasy - now that would rock.

The only issue I have with the rumor as it stands right now is the fact that the movie only seems to feature the main heroes. If it is CGI, I say make a full on all CGI Justice League Unlimited that is a direct follow up to the animated series. Not only would that rock balls it could even cause the DVD sales of the multi-season show to get a boost, and would allow everyone a chance to see their favorite superhero in action. It’s just too bad New Frontier is getting the direct to DVD treatment, as I’d pay movie theater prices to see that story all CGI and on the big screen.

Who’s with me? Do you want to see a stand alone JLA movie that is seperate from everything, or would you rather see JLU in CGI?

Thanks Bill for the tip!

And before you get all worked up, the image at the top is not tied to the movie, but rather something someone put together a few years ago.

Justice League Unlimited: Wild Geese

Saturday, August 11th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

Damn, you gotta love paranoid mysteries that are fun for all ages!

picon.jpg

I love the Justice League animated series, and as much as everyone wants to see a live action movie featuring the line up of leaguers, it will never ever approach the coolness of Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. One of the better characters to emerge from the JLU series was, without a doubt, The Question played by Jeffrey Combs (you may remember Mr. Combs from the Re-Animator movies). Unlike Vic Sage from 52 or the 1987 O’Neil run, the JLU Vic Sage sees a conspiracy around every corner. While his hunches pay off for the better, it’s the ride that makes the story fun.

We haven’t reviewed a Johnny DC title at Major Spoilers, but I quickly bowed when The Question appeared in Justice League Unlimited #36.

Hawkman Comes to JLU Action Figure Line

Monday, July 9th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

hawkmanpicon.jpg

Well here is a welcome addition to the Justice League Unlimited line - Hawkman. Now you can recreate your favorite love triangle with Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern, or you can go the other way with Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Vixen (with Hawkman standing stoically in the corner while his mace gently weeps).

The only downside I see to Hawkman is the figure uses the same body and wings as Winged Amazo, with the head being the only new item - well, there is the paint job dealie too.

Hawkman comes as part of a 3-pack featuring Rocket Red and Justice Lords Flash, although the package calls him Alt. The Flash. And come to think of it, Justice Lord Flash really isn’t correct because he was a creation of Braniac/Lex in the two part series.

Hawkman should appear in stores, and by stores I mean stores that are not Wal-Mart, on July 26.

Take the jump for more pics.

Mattel Lands Warner Toy Deal

Friday, June 29th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

grundyfigure.jpg

Variety is reporting the toy company Mattel has made a deal with Warner Bros. to become the official toy maker for DC Comics.

But the new multi-year deal makes Mattel the master toy licensee for the complete DC portfolio, which includes characters such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Joker, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Green Arrow and Justice League.

What is really cool about this deal, is it not only includes current and future films and properties, but also DC items from the past. Since Mattel already has the Justice League line, let’s hope this new deal will allow them to create animated versions of future characters, like the surprise Comedian character that appeared on this site recently.

Mattel says they will also create a DC Superheroes section in retailer’s toy aisles. Unfortunately, the town I live in doesn’t have a Target and I’m forced to shop at that god-awful Wal-mart which tends to avoid most cool Mattel toys.

JLU 3-Packs Detailed

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

JLUGroupShot1_1.jpg

I love Justice League Unlimited, and I’ve been heavily collecting the JL/JLU action figures since they were first released. Unfortunately, it is hard to nail down exactly what figures Mattel plans on releasing next, unless you attend one of the major cons or if you head over to Action Figure Insider.

The 2007 wave is already underway with some of the figures already in stores (but not Wal-Mart). Action Figure Insider has a breakdown of all the 3-packs including Sandman, the recently deceased Lightray, huntress, Star Sapphire and more!

JLU Comic Con Exclusive

Thursday, May 31st, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

jluTheRay.jpg

Well poop.  Like I said earlier, I’m not going to make it to the San Diego Comic Con this year.  If you have never been it is a blast, especially with all the scrambling for exclusive items.  While trollling through the Comic Con website, I found the list of exclusives, and I’m really bummed about not being able to get the JLU 3-pack featuring The Ray.  The $20 exclusive also features the unmasked Shayera Hol.

I guarantee I won’t be paying $20.00 for this on eBay as the price will surely shoot up to $60 before the end of the con.
