A Countdown tie-in issue that is actually worth it

crimesociety_picon.jpg

If you’ve read my other reviews of Countdown, you know my general complaint with the myriad of tie-in issues is the release schedule is so screwed up some issues arrive before the events in Countdown happen, or they are so delayed that it isn’t even worth picking up to see what happens. Fortunately, this isn’t the case with The Search for Ray Palmer: Crime Society. The issue came out a week after the introduction of Earth-3’s evil version of the JSA, and the Jokester, a perfect follow up to the answer the question, “Just who is this Jokester fellow, and why is he suddenly joining up with the Challengers from Beyond?”

Well dear reader, your questions are about to be answered.

Man, I hate it when really clean and clear images are posted throughout the Interwebs and suddenly they have to be taken down because they aren’t authorized. If 20 or so photos have already been leaked online and nearly every (and I mean every) website is linking to them, then what’s the big deal? But to avoid the dreaded C&D letter, I’m taking down the photos. You can probably still find them out there somewhere, just not here. I know, I know…what a bummer.

Kung Fu Rodeo has a slew of photos from the Dark Knight movie. Take the jump for a few of them, then head over to the Kung Fu Rodeo site before their all gone.

Warning: Potential Spoilers Ahead!

leahy.jpgCNN is reporting Senator Patrick Leahy has landed a part in the upcoming Dark Knight movie.

Leahy is apparently a big comic book enthusiast, and actually served as an extra in the 1997 Batman installment: Batman and Robin.

The senator told the station he can’t reveal the exact details of his role in the upcoming movie, but he did say he has landed a scene with its two stars, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger.

Wizard Universe has the transcript of The Dark Knight Panel that featured Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, and director Christopher Nolan.

This is a question for both Mr. Bale and the writers: Will you be playing up more of the “Dark Knight Detective”/criminologist angle of Batman this time? [Audience applauds]

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN: The short answer is “Yes.” The long answer is that “Batman Begins” was an origin story and the important thing was to move the story forward. In this movie, the detective stuff will help move the story along.

I can not wait for this movie to come out.

The Why So Serious website, the viral marketing site that had San Diego Comic-Con attendees running all over the Gas Lamp district following clues as part of The Dark Knight movie promotion, is now redirecting viewers to Rent-a-Clown.com. All of the participants pictures are there. Embedded in the HTML is the Joker’s trademark laugh.

I’ll leave it up to the Internet slueths to disect the pages to see if any other hidden messages pop up.

I’ve been following the Why So Serious Dark Knight viral website since finding it this morning. Apparently, it requires both an Internet access and someone on the ground at the San Diego Comic-Con. After some searching, the following image comes to light.

What’s the point of this series again?

picon.jpg

If you could go back and tell all the Batman origin stories in multi-part tales to amuse and astound readers, you would have Batman Confidential. Unfortunately, the first arc didn’t do a darn thing for me, and I couldn’t tell you if it told the origin of the Batplane, Batmobile, or Batcycle. It was just so booooooorrrrriiiiiiinnnnnnggggg. When issue #7 arrived at my door, with the promise of telling the true origin of the Joker, my interest was piqued, and I’m going to stick with the series, for not other reason than I’m a Batman fanatic. But should you be reading this series?

The folks over at Film Wad have some images of Heath Ledger decked out in full Joker gear filming a scene for the Dark Knight.

Woot! Looking pretty scary. I’m getting more and more excited about this movie as it draws near. Word has it, we’ll see a trailer for the film ahead of the Simpson’s movie, which just so happens to be the same day as the WB panel at the SDCC.

Take the jump for another image, then head over to Film Wad for some video.

It’s been a while since I’ve uploaded a Fun Panel of the Week entry, but hopefully I’ll keep better track of getting this stuff up (no pun intended in light of this week’s entry).

This week’s entry: The Joker’s Boner.

Hey, I’m not making this stuff up!

jokersboner.jpg

bon·er (b?’n?r) Informal
A blunder or an error.

Lolcats/I can has a Cheezburger? has been around for some time, and the bad spelling and off humor has been such a success, I’m surprised no one tried to do the same with comic panels.  Leave it up to Apropos of Something to fill the missing hole in our lives.

Head over to the site for a whole lots more.

Apparently the discussion surrounding the hackability (for lack of a better word) of the Harvey Dent campaign website we posted earlier this week has been proven hackable and it looks like the Joker is behind it all.

Take a peek at www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com/ and see what that clown prince of crime has done to the site.

OR if you are daring enough, enter your email address and the code to have the image strip away pixel by pixel to reveal a shocking surprise.

Or you could just take the jump and see the results for yourself. (Personally, I’d take the jump – it’s well worth it)

The Mercury News has an interview with Heath Ledger on his role in the upcoming movie “Candy”. While it is an interesting read for those who want to see the movie, comic fans want to know about his role as The Joker. The last question in the interview has the answer.

“I still feel like it’s a character I’ve never done before,” he says, “and I’m going to be donning a mask. I’m not really thinking about the commercial consequences. Maybe I should be. But at this point, it’s just an exciting next step.”

Can it be true believers? Reese Witherspoon’s husband Ryan Phillippe will play the role of Harvey Dent in the next Batman film? Even more exciting are rumors that Philip Seymour Hoffman is in talks to play The Penguin in the next movie. These unconfirmed rumors are thanks to ContactMusic.com.

And if you have been over to the Internet Movie Database, even more info has been posted on the plot outline:

Batman, Jim Gordon and DA Harvey Dent battle the evil Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker to save Gotham City from his reign of terror and death.

The WB has confirmed that Heath Ledger will be playing the role of The Joker in the next Batman film. The company also reports that the title of the next bat-flick will be The Dark Knight. Christian Bale will reprise his role as Batman, with Christopher Nolan directing. The film is expected to begin shooting in early 2007.
