Marvel just slipped us the variant cover to Reborn #1 by Joe Quesada. The issue ships during the week of Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Well this is an interesting turn of events. The weekly conversation with Marvel Editor in Chief Joe Quesada is ending over at Myspace’s Comic Books.
Yeah. This will be our last week here. We didn’t really give any advance warning, ’cause we wanted to go out business-as-usual, and hopefully with a bang as well. The big thing is, right now my schedule is just in…sane with work, and I find myself not being able to find the time and devote myself to this column as I’d like to…
We’ve had a lot of fill-ins that have been great, but it’s more than I’d like in a column we call MyCup o’ “Joe.” Someday I’d like to come back to this—hopefully sooner rather than later—but I’d like to come back to it in a way that I can really devote the proper time to it. So really, I need to thank all the editors and creators that helped and filled in. They were great. And the editors have really, really helped me with the fan questions. I’m still hands-on with all the macro-, more global planning of the Marvel U, but not so much in the fine detail. I usually don’t know specifically what villain will be appearing in issue #87 of a title, so they’ve helped me fill in all the blanks. Kudos to the guys and gals, they’re the best team of editors in the world and I’ll kick anybodies ass who says otherwise.
MySpace Comic Books promises to continue the Marvel coverage with exclusive Marvel Previews during the all-new Marvel Fridays! That can mean one of two things; 1) MySpace Comic Books will actually have exclusive previews, or 2) the rest of us will have our Marvel previews taken away as Marvel gravitates toward alienating all the other comic websites out there. Let’s just hope the Marvel goes with #1.

This week, Joe Quesada hands out some sage advice on how to break into the comic book industry as a writer of fine tales.
So my suggestion to those guys is always, “Keep it basic. If your character is the Silver Surfer, then write a Silver Surfer, but keep it basic, the way he is now in his current incarnation. Don’t give me the reinvention yet. We’ll see what you can do first in the current boundaries that we have, in the current continuity.” And I think a lot of people miss the fact that 90% of the stuff our writers are working on today is not reinvention—it’s writing the character in the status quo. That’s what we do for the bulk of the job, so that’s the starting point. And don’t worry about a five-issue storyarc at this point. Just a single, done-in-one, 22-page comic.
He and Jim McLauchlin also talk about Pet Avengers, and more news about Marvel’s 70th anniversary.
Fans of Marvel’s Noir series, get some interesting news this week in the latest MyCup o’ Joe from Joe Quesada.
Marko Djurdjevic created that amazing Spider-Man Noir look taking into account a lot of influences, from the fashions of the era to the airman’s uniform and other fabrics a boy like Peter Parker would have used to make his own costume in the ’30s—and obviously he pulled off a spectacular job.But hey, if you liked Spider-Man Noir, and if you like steampunk, keep your eyes open for news in the future…you may yet get to see an interesting take on another classic Spider-Man rogue or two.
There’s also some interesting Wolverine news that explains what’s next following the Old Man Logan storyline.
During his weekly, MyCup o’ Joe!, Marvel EIC Joe Quesada confirmed that Andy Diggle will indeed take over the writing duties of Daredevil beginning with issue #501, which is expected to be released late summer/early fall.
I think Andy really showed us something when he took over Thunderbolts. He has a certain feel, a certain “bite” to his stories, and he just writes tremendous, tremendous villains. He writes mean characters! [laughs] And there’s something there that resonated with all of us in editorial, where we just thought he could write the piss out of Daredevil.
Check out more of Joe’s comments about Diggle, and the history of Daredevil (and more), at the MySpace Comic Books page.

You know what would increase attendance at comic book conventions around the country? Cage matches. Not cage matches with the GLOW or those Octagon fighters, but epic battles between the Editor-in-Chiefs of the comic book publishing world.
Since the New York Comic Con is taking place this weekend, and since NYC is the supposed center of the universe, why not kick off these EIC Cage Match Battles with the head honchos from DC and Marvel.
FIGHT!
If you’ve been following the Major Spoilers site for some time, you know we were pointing out the $3.99 price increase way before Marvel made it official. For every email sent to Marvel, I either recieved no reply or a firm No Comment from the House of Ideas.
Times are tough, I know, and a price increase is certainly one way to counteract the cost of print. However, not everyone is as sympathetic with Marvel – including retailers.
Take the jump to see what Robert Kimmons of Brainstorm Movies, Comics, and Gaming of Chicago, IL had to say in his open letter to the company.

Marvel has announced its newest series, Fantastic Force will debut in April 2009.
In my world, it grew out of fan response. But in the world of [Fantastic Four writer] Mark Millar, he probably knew this was going to spin out all along. Millar is a conniving, wee bastard and he has his ways about these things. He’s leprechaun tricky. But the reaction to the characters in Fantastic Four was very strong, and the writer, Joe Ahearne, is hitting it out of the park.
In his latest MyCup o’ Joe, Marvel Comics Editor in Chief Joe Quesada, explains the series and even offers up the script for the first few pages.

If you’ve been paying attention to the Marvel Sneak Peeks we run here at Major Spoilers, you know I have been highlighting increases in price to tip you off. I’ve been following the price trend for the last two years, and today Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada gave his response to fans who are worried about high prices in a bad economy.
“I don’t make those kinds of decisions. We want to hold the line as long as we possibly can, but the world keeps spinning and unfortunately prices are going up everywhere. Sometiems you’re able to hold longer, sometimes you’re not. Honestly, I don’t have the answer for you.”
$4.50 by Christmas anyone?

Major Spoilers reported yesterday about the launch of a brand new Iron Man series, that featured a variant cover by head honcho Joe Quesada. Today, Marvel has us that cover for you to cast your gaze upon.
While many readers may have a problem with Joe Q’s art work. I actually liked the covers he did for One More Day, and do dig on the Iron Man cover for Invincible Iron Man #1.
Using Sketchup, a freely available 3D program, Joe Quesada has built a 3D representation of Tony Stark’s Stark Tower, complete with Sentrys Watchtower.
I set about doing a bit of an experiment in order to demonstrate the possibilities and potential for myself of employing simple 3-D programs into the making of a comic book. As an artist I could certainly see the benefits, especially when it comes to time management and complex pages, says Marvel Editor in Chief. I felt that building a model of Stark Tower would prove interesting, primarily because the Sentry Watchtower on the very top hasnt been fully realized in the round. Ever notice how we artists have only been drawing it from one angle?
