As predicted, Iron Man did a tremendous job at the box office this past weekend, bringing in an estimated $104 million in ticket sales. This is the second biggest opening weekend for a non-sequel movie since the first Spider-Man movie debuted at $114 million in 2002.
We’ll discuss the Iron Man movie on the next Major Spoilers Podcast, and we’ll even read some of your comments about the flick on the show.
I had the opportunity to see the Iron Man movie last evening. The best part about this showing? It wasn’t sold out, wasn’t packed with noisy kids talking during the movie, and not a single cell phone went off during the flick. All in all, a great movie going experience.
But what of the movie itself? I have a few early thoughts after the jump.
Over the next couple of weeks, expect to be inundated with content spilling out of Marvel and the studios as they make sure every single seat in every single theater in every single country is filled with people chanting Iron Man.
Marvel Comics has just unveiled the three variant covers from the upcoming Invincible Iron Man #1. The series claims to be a good jumping on point for new readers (hot on the heals of the upcoming movie), and features are from Billy Tan and Marko Djurdjevic.
Chris Doyle from Reasonably Clever, and long time Major Spoilers reader, sent me a quick message to let us know he is running another unofficial LEGO contest on his site. This time around he’s challenging builders to design a special armor set for Iron Man.
Since this is not a contest endorsed by LEGO or Marvel, you aren’t going to see any official ties to either company, but you can win some cool prizes.
So if you are a LEGO-Maniac and have some Iron Man love, head over to the site for the complete rules, prizes, and all that other stuff.
If you’ve been collecting Minimates for a while, you more than likely already have an Iron Man figure or two (or three or four in my case). Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum are releasing a new set based on the upcoming Iron Man movie.
The core assortment of Iron Man Movie Minimates will feature all-new armor designs as well as supporting characters and villains from the big-screen blockbuster. Mark III Iron Man & Pepper Potts, Iron Monger & Tony Stark and Mark I Iron Man & Jim Rhodes will make up this wave along with a limited Mark I Iron Man & Mark II Iron Man variant two-pack.
In addition to the regular moving parts, this collection will feature plenty of removable armor so you can recreate your favorite scene from movie - or lose amongst your ever growing collection of crap collectibles.
Yahoo! Movies has posted some new pics from the upcoming Iron Man movie that feature Iron Monger and Iron Man battling it out BGR style (that’s Big Giant Robot).
OOoooooo- BABY! I can’t wait for this film to hit my local theater.
Speaking of theaters, let me go off on a tangent for a moment. I was having a discussion last week on one of my other podcasts The Coolness Lounge. There, I questioned fellow co-host Charlie White on if he thinks people would shell out $25 for a HD quality download rental of a movie the day it is released in theaters.
