That Olivia Munn.  This girl just can’t stop trying to garner favor with me by landing a role in Iron Man 2.  There’s no word who she’ll play, but I’m sure she’ll talk about it on an upcoming Attack of the Show appearance.

And yes, that is the only picture I could find of her…

There have been some artist renderings of what Mickey Rourke would look like in Iron Man 2, but USA Today got the scope (is it really a scoop if the paper is working with the company to get first access?) and the picture of Rourke in his getup.

This first image of the character shows Whiplash making an appearance at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix. Favreau as usual is tight-lipped about plot points and declines to discuss whether the big-screen Whiplash is, as in the Marvel Comics, a weapons designer who works for Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), a competitor of Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Can not wait for this movie to hit theaters.

He was in, then out, and now he’s back in again. Mickey Rourke has signed on the bottom line to appear in Iron Man 2, directed by Jon Favreau.

Rourke also met with Jon Favreau and scribe Justin Theroux and got to be part of the development of his character. He’ll play Whiplash, a character that includes elements from that comicbook villain and Crimson Dynamo, another Russian baddie.

Variety is reporting that Marvel is remaining mum on the announcement.

Dark Reign and the Marvel Noir events have been doing quite well for Marvel, as the company announced three of its titles have sold out at the distributor level.  The first is X-Men Noir #3, featuring the team of Fred Van Lente and Dennnis Calero.  While Marvel says it has no plans to go back to press on this issue, the company’s record for reprints indicates you’ll see something eventually.

It’s certainly a possibility as Variety is reporting Jon Favreau is casting his eyes toward Emily Blunt to play the Black Widow in the upcoming Iron Man 2 film.

Emily Blunt has emerged as the frontrunner to play Natasha Romanoff in the “Iron Man” sequel. She’s a Soviet superspy who doubles as Black Widow, a beauty in a skintight black costume enhanced by high-tech weaponry.

She’s done some comedy and a few big dramas (Charlie Wilson’s War, The Jane Austen Book Club), and will appear in the upcoming Wolf Man movie from Universal.

Marvel has issued a firm “no comment” on this bit of casting news, so for now, we’ll have to file this under rumor.

Negotiations with Sam Jackson’s people and Marvel Studios doesn’t look like it is going too well.  Mr. Jackson did an interview with the LA Times where he explained his position, and why he may not don the eye patch in upcoming Marvel movies.

“There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me], ‘We’re not making that deal.’”

Economic crisis with Marvel Comics?  I wonder if he is referring to the around the block lines of people who are lining up to buy the Obama/Spider-Man issue that debuts today, or if he is referring to the millions of dollars the first Iron Man movie brought in.  Marvel Studios is in no way connected Lionsgate, who produced and distributed The Spirit, and from what I remember the company’s bottom line looked good during the last reporting period.

Perhaps the economic crisis Nick Fury is talking about is someone wanting to be cheap.  That kind of hardball negotiations didn’t work with Jon Favreau, so I expect this statement is some hardball pushing back on the part of Jackson.

What say you Major Spoilerites?  Would you rather Marvel spend the money on Sam Jackson, or go the cheap route and bring back The Hoff?

ironman2rourke.jpg

According to Variety, Mickey Rourke is in talks with Marvel Studios for a part in the upcoming Iron Man 2 sequel.

…Rourke is in discussions to play the Crimson Dynamo, a heavily tattooed Russian arms dealer. He’s considered to be an evil version of Iron Man because he battles the superhero in a nuclear-powered suit of armor.

Interesting choice if it plays out.  Rourke is on a high recently after his stellar performance in The Wrestler.  Major Spoilers fans will remember Rourke in his performance as Marv in the the Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller adaptation of Sin City.

ironposing01.jpgHeading to the Nicktoon Network in January is the new Iron Man: Armored Adventures series.  Marvel Animation Age dug around and discovered the official description for the show.

Iron Man: Armored Adventures
Tony Stark is a typical student, in appearance at least. He’s secretly developing the perfect suit of armour which will replace all current vehicles and will cross all obstacles. Following a helicopter accident in which his father died, Tony is hurt and obliged to wear his special armour to replace some of his vital organs. Tony Stark became Iron Man. As the head of a multinational corporation, he puts on his armour in order to confront those who use technology for evil ends.

Co-directed by Stéphane Juffé and Philippe Guyenne
Created by Hervé and Olivier Pérouze, Julien Magnat
Co-produced by Method Films, LuxAnimation, Dataquest, Marvel, France 2 and Isle of Man

If it is done right, it could be really good, but too often we’ve seen schlock animated series spring out of successful movies that don’t do justice to the original work or the motion picture.
