Way back in the day, before the advent of NES, SNES, Sega, Xbox, and those hack machines that followed, we had to go to a video arcade to play video games – one quarter at a time.  The early devourer of my quarters was Space Invaders.  A lot of button mashing and left-right joystick controlling is all the skill one needed to defeat the invaders…from space…

Flash forward to today, where Galaga has been replaced by Halo, and someone (actually Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger) has sold the idea that this video game would make an excellent movie. The duo of Lisbe and Reger have gone so far as to hire Justin Theroux to write the script.

(film) centers on a man who decides to go to space after he suspects that his longtime girlfriend, an astronaut, is cheating on him with another spacewalker. Will Arnett is attached to star.

If the Theroux name sounds familiar, then good for you for paying attention, as Theroux wrote Tropic Thunder, and the upcoming Iron Man 2 movie, and is currently working on a feature film remake of Air Guitar Nation.

The story may be one that you think you know well. Millionaire playboy industrialist Tony Stark is one of the smartest men on the planet, CEO of Stark International, and in times of need, the golden avenger Iron Man. You ask any comic book reader, even the most casual one, and they can all rattle off at least that much to you and probably still have much more to say besides. Currently, he is featured in several Marvel titles every month and has been a major player practically since the day he was introduced. He has been everything from the brainy hero to the elder statesman to the most hated man in the Marvel Universe, but still the fans want more of him. He has been featured in two popular cartoon series, a direct-to-DVD animated movie and a blockbuster hit film with another one the way. With all that publicity and attention, there is still at least one adventure that the average fan will not even hear about until months after it has been released. That adventure is the prose novel, Iron Man: Femmes Fatales, written by Robert Greenberger and published by Del Rey Books.

Check out Michael Cho’s Iron Man piece.  Wowza!

Here’s a quick drawing of Iron Man I finished a few nights ago. I drew it up in ink markers, but scanned it into photoshop and added a bit of paper texture. As some of you might know, I doodle Iron Man quite a bit, though not as much lately. But I felt like drawing him again, so took an old sketch from my sketchbook and inked it up to share on this blog.

And by this blog, he means his own Michael Cho’s Sketchbook site.
