Image Comics has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of Dynamo 5 #21, Frank Frazetta’s Neaderthal one-shot, Invincible #61, Savage Dragon #147, and Viking #1.

I’m pretty excited about the news that Cory Walker is returning to Invincible. While I love Ryan Ottley’s work in Invincible, it was the work of Cory Walker that originally got me hooked. On Tuesday, G4TV announced the co-creator will return to Invincible for a two-part story that sets up the upcoming Viltrumite War.
“While Cory has been working behind the scenes in the INVINCIBLE crew, it’s great to have him back for these two very special issues,” INVINCIBLE co-creator and writer Robert Kirkman said. “They’re going to be pretty damn momentous in the grand scheme of INVINCIBLE as we place the spotlight on INVINCIBLE’s dad, Nolan, and his new partner, Allen the Alien, while they seek the only weapons capable of taking down the Viltrumite empire. It’s gonna be awesome!”
Invincible #66 arrives in September, 2009.

If you missed the done in one crossover epic from Image Comics, Invincible #60 makes a return to stores next week, according to the company.
“Telling an entire inter-company crossover in a single issue is something I’ve had my eye on for awhile,” Kirkman said. “It wasn’t easy to do, but the results are totally kick ass! I got the chance to play with Image’s full line of superheroes, including a few you haven’t seen in awhile, like PITT! It was a lot of fun for me to put INVINCIBLE and company through the ringer in a fight that completely devastated the planet, but poor INVINCIBLE has no idea the worst is yet to come as ‘The Invincible War Aftermath: Conquest!’ begins next issue!”
The issue features nearly every single character from the Image pantheon as they battle against an army of Invincibles from alternate dimensions.
the 40-page $3.99 reprint will be in stores on April 8, 2009, with Invincible #81 (32-pages $2.99) arrives April 22, 2009.
Gimme a Gimmick

Since discovering Image Comics Invincible, I’ve been a fan. Even when the occasional dud of a story, I’ve been able to go along with Robert Kirkman at the helm at take everything with a grain of salt. Even though I should probably do the same thing with issue #60, the celebratory issue turns into one big mess of cameos, a major battle, and a whole lot of what did I just read?
How to build a super-villain

I’ve often wondered what the normals in the world of the superheroes think about. Do they appreciate those looking out for them? Do they fear that one day the hero might turn into a villain and nuke their baby on panel for the world to see? Do they loathe and hate the superhero for raising taxes and insurance premiums every time the city has to clean up or repair all the damage and destruction caused by the last major battle? And what about those who have lost loved ones in the collateral damage from those fights? Do they get compensation, or do they get a friendly pat on the head from the man in tights with a gentle “There, there, boy… shut up”? Invincible #59 puts these questions to the test, as the title character meets a new nemesis that he helped create.

Little behind on things this week, but not far enough behind that I haven’t forgotten about the Image Comics Sneak Peek of the Week! This week, Image sends us sneak peeks of Amber Atoms #1, Firebreather #4, Four Eyes #2, Golly #4, Invincible #59, Johnny Monster #1, and Nobel Cuases #39. Yep, it’s a big list, which should give you something to occupy your time until the 5:00 whistle sends you home for the weekend.
Now this is more like it

I don’t know what happened in the second part of that two-part crossover issue that began in Invincible #57, and frankly, I don’t care. What I do care about is the intricate universe Robert Kirkman has created in Invincible and the myriad of characters in it. The latest issue returns readers to the good ol’ days of a young superhero and all the people in it.
Crossovers. Why’d it have to be crossovers?

Crossovers are one of those occurrences in comics where a character from one title appears in the pages of another title and vice versa. Generally, these events happen in the pages of titles from large publishers, and is a way to remind readers that the company’s universe is big and organic. Invincible, on the other hand, works perfectly well as a stand-alone universe in and of itself, so when characters begin to make more than a referential appearance in the pages, I get a bit concerned.
Especially when the crossover features characters created by the same person.

What a world of difference a couple of years make. Back in the day, you’d open up a copy of Invincible and see bashing and smashing, intrigue, and teenager trying to live a normal life with super powers. But our Mark Greyson has grown up, and as he comes into his own, he’s got to face a lot of adult situations. Situations like premarital sex, a sibling that needs an intervention, and domestic violence. Heady topics, indeed.

If you’ve been following my reviews for a while, you know I love stories involving time travel. There’s something about being in time well past your years and seeing how far we, as a society, have come. Jumping on a cosmic treadmill, hopping in a DeLorean, tripping around in a time sphere, or using a time jumping scooter would be the ultimate in doing what you want, when you want. But what of those other time travelers? Those that don’t jump in time, but live through it, would that be the life you would want to lead?
He’s not heavy, he’s my brother

Ah family. You can’t pick your family members – unless you belong to some weird cult – and regardless of what happens, they are still family. That’s the issue facing Mark Grayson as he attempts to deal with the fallout from the previous chapter.
