If you missed out on the very cool battle between Invincible and Cecil, you missed out on a great landmark, oversized issue. Image has announced the issue sold out at the distributor level and will be going back to print with a variant black and white cover.
“Fans sure do love it when the book hits the fan,” said Kirkman. “Issue fifty altered the series in a way we haven’t seen since Omni-Man’s true nature was revealed and people have really taken notice. I think a lot of people will be even more surprised by what’s next.”

Or - “These Days, The Government Agencies Always Go Bad…”

Back in the day, the government agent was someone you could trust… Dick Tracy. Nick Fury. King Faraday. James Bond. The spies were always honest, and they stopped those with ignoble or antisocial points of view, for the good of America and/or Mother Britain. In this, the age of irony, we have seen a paradigm shift, where even Nick Fury has admitted that he’s engaged in monstrous behaviors, engaging wars, setting up innocents to be killed, and generally being a jerk. For a couple of years now, Invincible has been working for Cecil Steadman, a government spook who literally has the influence to do whatever is necessary in the name of truth, justice, and the American way. There’s no way that *HE*, too is an amoral buttmonkey, right?
…
Right?

Or - “Never Trust A Shady Government Agent With Nigh-Limitless Power.”

When comics were young, the heroes were firmly pro-establishment. Most were goverment agents of some stripe (you should excuse the expression) or another, but sometime in the mid-60’s the shift from “Kindly Government Supervision” to “Jack-Booted Thug Wrapped In The Flag” began. We went from Franklin Roosevelt convening the founding members of the Justice Society to H.P Gyrich firing Avengers to establish a team with the proper seven-person mix of diversity and powers. Even Nick Fury, that last bastion of red, white and blue lower-middle class honesty led several Marvel heroes into a situation that made the Bay of Pigs look like ‘High School Musical 3.’ For many issues now, Mark Grayson has been at the beck and call of Cecil Stedman, a card-carrying CIA spook without asking too many questions… As the great philosopher Jesse Duke might put it, them proverbial chickens is headin’ in, folks, and they’s looking for a likely roostin’ point.

Robert Kirkman has posted an image of Science Dog over at his blog site. The fictional movie character from the pages of Invincible is a hero to the title character and he’s appearing again in Invincible #50.

The milestone issues of Walking Dead and Invincible are getting ever closer, and according to Image, the titles are at the top of their game, with both titles selling out at the distributor level.
“People seem to be real psyched for our big milestone,” said series writer Robert Kirkman. “Having THE WALKING DEAD #42 and INVINCIBLE #45 sell out has gotten the entire creative team very fired up. Ryan Ottley’s and Charlie Adlard’s pages get better and better the closer we get to fifty.”

Image Comics must be super happy as it has announced five titles (Dust #1, Invincible #43 & #44, Madman Atomic Comics #3, and the Walking Dead #39) have completely sold out at Diamond.
“Having such a wild variety of titles sell out at the same time showcases what’s great about Image,” said Erik Larsen, Publisher of Image Comics. “Each of these titles caters to a completely different audience, but every single one is in major demand. These are cartoonists, writers and artists at the top of the game doing the work they’ve wanted to do their entire lives with an immense amount of success. It’s books like these I dreamed of when we first formed Image. I couldn’t be happier.”
I haven’t read Dust, but Invincible, Madman, and the Walking Dead are all high on the Major Spoilers reading list.

Image Comics has announced Tech Jacket, the first series by Invincible and Walking Dead writer Robert Kirkman, will be collected in a trade paperback. Tech Jacket tells the story of Zack Thompson, an ordinary teenager until his family was thrust into the center of an alien civil war. As usual when these things happen, Zack was fused against his will with a battle vest capable of granting him power far beyond those of mere mortals.
“Tech Jacket has always been a big favorite of mine,” Kirkman says. “Zack’s not like a typical comic book teenager. He’s far from a big dork or a wealthy heir. His family is working class - just like most people out there. In fact, he’s probably the creation of mine I relate to the most.”
If you haven’t read Invincible, then you are missing out, and if Kirkman’s great story telling in Walking Dead is any indication, then Tech Jacket should be a must have.
Tech Jacket, packed with extras, exclusive sketches and introduction by the author hits stores August 15, for $14.99.
