After yesterday’s retro styled posters for Disney/Pixar’s UP!, I had a yearning for other retro art. It didn’t take me long to find Eric Tan’s work for the Indiana Jones series, which will blow your mind. Take the jump for Eric’s comments, and the final design.
Yesterday’s Art Appreciation Moment got me into a Star Wars kick, and I found this piece by Wynn Ryder. Wynn has a style all his own, yet I can’t help but think this is what it would look like if Scott Pilgrim Saved the Galaxy Far, Far Away…
As a bonus, take the jump and see his take on Indiana Jones.
Why Dr. Jones, where have you been?

I can’t tell you when the last issue of Indiana Jones and the Tomb of the Gods was released, but it was long enough ago for me to look at this issue and say, “Hello there, what do we have here?”

I love Indiana Jones. Love the first three movies, the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on television, and the comic books. Just listen to the Major Spoilers Podcast about all things Indy, and it is clear nothing did more in my formative years than Dr. Jones cracking the whip, cracking wise, and cracking the heads of Nazis.
While I liked Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I didn’t care for Mutt Williams (aka Shia LaDoof) one bit. And the very hint that there might be a Mutt Williams franchise based off of this has me sick to my stomach. Perhaps the word has filtered to Mr. Lucas, because there’s a buzz that a fifth Indiana Jones movie might become a reality.
Harrison Ford said Friday that momentum is building for a fifth movie in the “Indiana Jones“ franchise and that George Lucas is already cooking up a suitable plot for a heroic senior citizen with a penchant for whips and fedoras.
“It’s crazy but great,” the 66-year-old Ford said. “George is in think mode right now.”
Think wisely, Mr. Lucas. Think wisely. Keep Mutt Williams as far away from the next story as possible.

With the success of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls (i know someone’s going to disagree, but come on, $282 million ain’t nothing to sneeze at), it was only a matter of time before Dark Horse came up with a new Indiana Jones series to ride the coat tails of success. While the movie adaptation was a bit awkward, the digest sized Indiana Jones Adventures Volume 1, rocks the house.

There is still plenty of time for you to enter the Major Spoilers Indiana Jones Trilogy DVD Contest before it closes Tuesday night.

Let’s get those entries in for this fabulous prize.
DeviantArt is a great place to find works by the talented (and not so talented) artists of the world. Fortunately, “Jolly Jack” falls into the talented category and scores bonus points for the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull dig.

What is it about George Lucas’ ability to create a character(s) that bring up so much hate per generation? Be it Admiral Ackbar, Jar-Jar Binks, Howard the Duck (admittedly not created by Lucas, but destroyed by him none-the-less), and now CG Gophers, Lucas has done wonders in getting the fanboy community to stop fighting amongst themselves over whether a movie is good or bad and rally around awful characters. One good thing about the vitriol surrounding the CG Gophers is it is deflecting a lot of the hate around CGI Shia LeBeouf swinging from tree to tree with monkeys.

In this outing, the life and times of Henry Walton Jones, Jr. (because they named the dog Indiana) admiring his fine choice of leather accoutrements, examining what makes this icon tick, and once and for all, answering that music question: does he STAPLE that thing to his head? It’s an all-Indy slobberknocker, and yes, it had to be snakes, on this our sixteenth in a series, the Major Spoilers podcast is on the air!

Pictures is estimating that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will rake in an estimated $151 million by the end of the day today. That is with the projection of another $25 million in box office sale today.
Once tallies are in for the entire Memorial Day frame through Monday, the iconic adventure sequel will be measured against marks such as the $151.1 million tally posted by last year’s “Spider-Man 3″ in a best-ever weekend opening.
Not bad for a 19 year old sequel, but according to many of you, the movie is awful. We’ll have our own reactions this week on the Major Spoilers Podcast.

Josh Howard has announced his next project will debut in July or August of this year.
The title? T-Bird and Throttle, a sci-fi/superhero adventure that’s one part Superman and two parts Fantastic Four, with a dash of Star Trek.
Josh says he’ll post the cover and art in the next couple of days, and we’ll update it here as well.
You can see Josh’s next art on the cover of Wulf and Batsy from Viper Comics.
In the meantime, take the jump to see the sketch cards that Josh did for the upcoming TOPPS: Indiana Jones Heritage trading card set.
USA Today has the latest movie poster for the upcoming Indiana Jones movie.

I notice Sallah isn’t in the picture, but that guy with the mustache – could that be Remmy from the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles? If it is, then that’s one way to shoehorn the television series from the 80s into the canon of the movies.
No, this isn’t creepy at all.

Nope, not one bit.
Word from Variety this morning has Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull making its world wide debut a few days earlier than expect at the Cannes Film Festival. Fans who are also at the international film festival can check out the premiere on Sunday May 18, 2008, with pirated copies of the film hitting the streets soon after (yes, sarcasm). Official acceptance of the film into the festival won’t occur until April
Still, Paramount insiders are confident that as soon as fest programmers see the final print, the deal will be sealed for the studio to launch the summer tentpole on the granddaddy of all world stages. Director Spielberg, who is still editing and scoring the film, has not shown “Indy 4″ to anyone yet.
If the trailer is any indication, this is going to be a hit on par with every other major movie released this summer. Will it surpass Iron Man, Batman, and the Hulk? If I were to put my money on ranking the films – Batman will lead the list, Iron Man at number 2, with Indiana Jones and Hulk following close behind.
