In a way, Hercules and Thor are reminiscent of Stephen and myself.  Both equally powerful, in their own ways, equally notorious for different reasons, and one of them possesses much cooler hair.  (Tune in next week as we equate Rodrigo with Xerpliphane, Mesopotamian god of war and uncomfortable trousers…)

When you read monthly comic books the way that I do, often times you get to the point where you feel like you know what’s coming, when every title feels like you’ve read it before.  On the other hand, you have the odd experience where you read a title or issues that you KNOW you’ve read before, but you cannot for the life of you remember how it’s supposed to end.  With over a hundred monthly titles coming out, sometimes you need to play catchup, you need to go where everybody knows your name to the land of the Rapid Fire Revieeeeewwww!

So, the end of the month is always problematic for me, in terms of multitasking.  I mention this solely as an explanation of why this issue of Hercules (which came out two weeks ago) is being reviewed a couple of days after the delivery of the NEXT issue of Hercules (which came out on Wednesday.)  After their adventure in the underworld, Amadeus Cho and the scion of Olympus have gone their separate ways.  Hercules now has to take care of his own father, reverted to childhood, with only the help of his goddess of wisdom sibling to assist him.  So, what’s with the wingy hat?

Yup, it’s another one of those cryptic images Marvel sends out now and again to signal some big something coming down the road.  This time it has to do with Thor and Hercules.

Today is American Independence Day, commonly referred to as July 4th, as it takes place on the 4th of July, hence the name, and that’s why the song is called Alice’s Restaurant…  To all the faithful Spoilerites of the United States, Happy 4th of July.  For those of you who are from elsewhere, sorry about all the hegemony and stuff.  Either way, it’s time for another bout of our Rapid Fire Reviews, bite-sized chunks of comics that I either couldn’t write three paragraphs about, or ran out of time to cover.  Give us your tired, your poorly drawn, your huddled masses of comics, yearning to be bagged in mylar…

The Secret Invasion tie-in issue of Incredible Hercules has sold out at the distributor level – although I’m sure you can find copies at your LCS, prompting Marvel to go back to press with a variant cover featuring, you guessed it, interior artwork by Rafa Sandoval.

The second printing arrives July 23, 2008.  Take the jump for that cover, and the cover image for Incredible Hercules #119.

Time for Hercules to get involved in the Skrull invasion. He’s not alone, as he’s bringing the God Squad with him to deal with the wrinkly jawed foe.

You can get your own sneak peek of Incredible Hercules #117 after the jump, thanks to Marvel Comics.
