Robert Kirkman on Invincible #50

Friday, August 1st, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Inv50picon.jpg

With the new direction Image Comics’ Invincible took in issue #50, one would expect the sales to drop off a little bit, but according to creator Robert Kirkman, that’s not the case.

“It’s tradition for the issue after a milestone like fifty to taper off, but it certainly wasn’t the case here,” said Kirkman. “In fact, the combination of INVINCIBLE’s new costume, new sidekick and the totally kick-ass cover by Jim Lee made this the best selling issue yet. Having this sell so well after we blew through issue fifty showed me the series is healthier than its ever been.”

Image has gone back to press once already on the issue that features interior art by series artist Ryan Ottley and cover by Jim Lee, but there’s no word if the reprint has sold out or not.  Issue #51 arrives in August, and you can see the cover after the jump.

War Heroes Sells Out

Thursday, July 31st, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

warheroes_01.jpgImage Comics has announced Mark Millar’s War Heroes has sold out at the distributor level, prompting the company to go back to press.

“Much like KICK ASS, the response to WAR HEROES has taken a lot of people by surprise,” said Millar. “Stores all over are reporting sell outs and are reordering as many as possible, even as the initial supply is exhausted! Those fans from ULTIMATES are coming to WAR HEROES in droves so we’re putting even more copies out there! Retailers are advised to order up as our initial printing had a substantial overprint and that clearly wasn’t enough for the fans!”

The second printing will arrive in August for $2.99.

Rapid-Fire Reviews IV: The Revenge!

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008--by Matthew Peterson

Or - “Because I’ve Fallen Further Behind Than Ever Before…”

I have to tell you, two weeks of being unable to type without crying like a little girl really makes your work pile up.  The last couple of weeks of comics have been a tumultuous ride, with a whole lot of minor things happening that made me happy.  An old favorite disappoints, while a surprise contender impresses the heck out of me.  British vampires, time-lost Arcturans, underground civilizations, the chupacabra, and a fifty-foot stalk of marijuana await you, beyond the fold!

Mike Mayhew Goes Savage

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

savage_cov01.jpgCheck out this awesome looking cover from the upcoming Image Comics Shadowline imprint Savage written by Steve Niles and Dan Wickline.  Mike Mayhew provides the art for the horror title that arrives in October.

“As a kid, I was always more drawn to horror comics, but I’ve never had the opportunity return to that as an adult,” said Mayhew. “SAVAGE is my chance to take everything I loved so much about the genre and run with it. The story Steve conceived with Dan hits every note I was hungry to hit and despite this being Jeff Frank’s debut, he knocks the script out of park with Dan’s help. Everyone involved knows and loves horror like nobody’s business.”

If the theory is monkeys in comics sell, then this one should do gangbusters.  Of course in this case, the monkey is Bigfoot as he/she/it(?) battles a clan of werewolves.  Just the concept alone makes you want to yell “Hellz yeah!”
