Astounding Wolf-Man Goes Monthly

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

wolfman08.jpgI guess Robert Kirkman has too many hours in the day, because Image comics has announced the Kirkman, Jason Howard Astounding Wolf-Man will turn into a monthly title this July.

“Frankly, I just couldn’t stay patient,” ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN co-creator and writer Robert Kirkman said. “Over the past year THE ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN has become one of my favorite books to write and, even more so, seeing the pages pour in from Jason has made me crave MORE! With the impending shocker we’ve got coming in issue 7, we decided to switch the book from once every sixty days to every thirty! I certainly think folks will be happy with the results.”

The 32-page Astounding Wolf-Man #8 will arrive July 30, 2008.

Aletheia Premieres on MySpace

Thursday, May 1st, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

alethia_01.jpgImage Comics Shadowline has announced it will debut the entire issue of Aletheia on MySpace Comic Books weeks before the issue arrives in stores.

“With the ever increasing amount of new titles on the stands, we really wanted to do something new and different to help ALETHEIA stand out,” said Shadowline President Jim Valentino. “Teaming up with MySpace in this manner gave the series a spotlight it may not have had otherwise had and we don’t doubt it will result in many more readers heading into stores for the book.”

This is not a new movie, Boom! Studios did something similar not too long ago, and the issue ended up selling out at the distributor level. Having these preview issues available online to give readers a taste of the real deal is a great gateway to purchasing the title and quite possibly others when the reader ventures into their LCS.

Rapid-Fire Reviews!!

Thursday, April 17th, 2008--by Matthew Peterson

Or - “Major Spoilers, Major Time Crunch!  I Blame Stephen!”

There’s a couple of reasons why I do what I do here at Major Spoilers…  The first is, I love comics, and I know you do, too.  (See what I did there?)  I want you to look at Wednesdays the same way I do, with a combination of joy, expectation, and “What in the world will they do next?”  Basically, I want to share the love.

Also, and possibly more importantly, I’m an attention whore.  Problem is, I actually have two jobs other than this one, both of which tend to suck a lot of time out of my day.  I’ve fallen waaaaaay behind in my daily reviews (or, honestly, my thrice-a-week reviews, lately) and in order to keep from reviewing things that came out three or four weeks ago, I’ve decided to give you some extra bang for your buck, with a smorgasbord of reviews that I’ve fallen behind on.  It’s something like Friday nights when I was a kid, where you’d have whatever was in the fridge for supper, because nobody’s going to waste their time cooking for ya.  Heck, if it works out, we may do this on a semi-regular basis to remind you of the comics that I probably couldn’t honestly see devoting a whole review to.  And now, ON WE GO!

War Heroes Art Arrives in Wizard Mag

Friday, April 11th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

warheroes_01picon.jpg

Mark Millar and Tony Harris have already announced their latest collaboration War Heroes, but all previews of the issue have come in the form of black and white pencil work. Fans of Harris’ work will get a chance to see the the art in color come April 30th when Wizard #200 Platinum arrives in stores.

“Thus far we’ve been pretty coy with the art by only showing my pencils,” Harris said. “But WIZARD #200 PLATINUM will be the first place to see the art fully fleshed out, including Cliff Rathburn’s inks and colorist JD Mettler’s gorgeous palette. I think the final results will surprise a lot of people. It’s truly a huge leap from my previous superhero work, in the best of ways.”

Of course you see the cover to War Heroes in glorious color if you just take the jump.

Tori Amos in Comics

Thursday, April 10th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Image Comics has teamed up with Tori Amos to bring the themes and ideas behind her songs to the comic pages. Comic Book Tattoo will be a 480-page book and will arrive July 30, 2008.

“I have been surprised, excited and pleasantly shocked by these comics that are extensions of the songs that I have loved and therefore welcome these amazing stories of pictures and words because they are uncompromisingly inspiring,” says Amos. “It shows you thought is a powerful formidable essence and can have a breathtaking domino effect. “
