Heroes Season 3 Trailer

Monday, May 12th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Sounds like NBC is ripping the theme of Villains from DC’s Villains Win theme taking place over the next year.

But, I’m a sucker for this series, and as long a my TiVo continues to capture the show on time and in HD, I’ll sit down once a month for my Heroes marathon.

The Scarecrow Joins Heroes

Thursday, May 8th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Earlier this week Major Spoilers mentioned “the Flash” was coming to NBC’s Heroes, now word from TV Guide is the Scarecrow (a.k.a. Bruce Boxleitner of Scarecrow and Ms. King fame) will be joining the show in a super secret recurring role.

The article says the role was originally going to be modeled after Sen. John McCain, but those plans have been scrapped. Could Boxleitner’s character be a high profile politician dead set on eliminating the “mutant” threat?

Heroes Gets The Flash

Monday, May 5th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

breagrant.jpg

Okay, so TV Guide isn’t calling her the Flash, but the site is claiming Brea Grant (last seen on Friday Night Lights) will be speeding her way to the third season of Heroes as “The Speedster”.

I doubt that will be the name used on the show (the part has her listed as Joy), but as the heroes move toward an organized group, having a speedster on the team is a smart move. Plus for the slobbering fan boys, she is a girl.

Heroes Hardcover Coming November 7

Thursday, September 6th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

heroespicon.jpg

Heroes_Previews.jpgYou’ve already read about it in the DC Solicitations for November, and now the company has announced November 7, 2007 will be the official release date for the Heroes hardcover based on the NBC series.

The stories, which mark the first printed graphic novel adaptation of the show, were originally created for the “Heroes” website at NBC.com (www.NBC.com/Heroes) where new chapters continue to be exclusively available. The collection spotlights the fluid artwork of legendary comic book artist Tim Sale (BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN), whose work was featured prominently during the first season of the series through the visuals created by a drug-addled painter with apocalyptic visions of the future. In addition, the hardcover collects the work of an all-star cast of television and comic book creators, including Michael Turner, Phil Jimenez, Koi Turnbull, Marcus To and more

The hardcover will be under the WildStorm imprint, is 240 pages, and will sell for $29.99. Retailers should note the final cut off date for orders is September 13.

Veronica Mars Joins Heroes

Monday, August 20th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

kristen_bell_01.jpg

Kristen Bell, star of the now canceled Veronica Mars, has been signed to play a part in NBC’s Heroes this fall.

Bell will make her first “Heroes” appearance in October. She’ll play Elle, a character described as a sexy, mysterious young lady who has ties to the supposed death of Peter, H.R.G.’s past and the future of Claire. Elle will kick off her arc by committing a serious crime, though it’s unclear whether she’s good or bad.

I never watched Mars, but apparently everyone raves at Bell’s acting chops. All I can say is with all the new actors joining the cast, this is going to be one exciting year for the sophomore show.

Heroes to be Turned into Video Game

Thursday, July 26th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

heroesvideogame.jpg

Gamemaker Ubisoft has announced it has acquired the rights to turn the NBC series Heroes into a video game.

The long-in-the-works deal gives Ubisoft the rights to build a third-person superhero action game that brings the series characters, locations and story lines to next-generation game consoles and the PC. The untitled game could be in stores as soon as late 2008.

This will be an ensemble game instead of following the adventures of one character. More information is sure to come out during the Heroes Panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

“From Day 1 we’ve all been thinking about the game,” said “Heroes” co-executive producer Jesse Alexander, who first hinted about the game during an online podcast in May. “All along we’ve been writing some of our stories in ways they can tie into the eventual video game.”

While this sounds cool, Heroes and NBC are really pushing the boundary of Heroes overload. Already we have a spin-off series coming during the 2008 off-season, web sites, mobile gaming, and more. If Kring and company are not careful with their storytelling and franchise, audiences and fans could quickly tire of the in-your-face marketing.

UPDATED: Heroes Gets Hardcover Treatment

Thursday, July 26th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

herospicon.jpg

DC Comics has acquired the rights to take the online Heroes comics, that gave readers a deeper glimpse into the characters from the hit NBC series, and collect them in a hardcover collection.

I’ve already downloaded the 43 Adobe PDF files from the Heroes website, and these are pretty good reads. But because these are online, graphic heavy, and you have to remember to go to the website each week to get the latest installment, I think a bound edition of the issues is a great idea.

In addition to the online strip by artists including Michael Turner, Marcus To, Mitch Gunnell and Phil Jimenez, the book will feature new covers by comic-book superstars Alex Ross and Jim Lee.

Also included will be art by Tim Sale.

An official announcement will be made later today by DC at the SDCC.

The complete Press Release follows after the jump.

With the success of Heroes, and his work on Spider-Man, Batman, Superman and other comic heroes, Tim Sale is going to be a pretty busy guy at this year’s comic-con.

Active Images let us know he will primarily be at his table at the Naked Fat Rave (booth #4601), selling a brand new “Blue” Sketchbook and a color “Jungle Girl” print, t-shirts and more.

Pop Culture Hits Land Emmy Nods

Friday, July 20th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

emmys.gifEmmy Nominations were announced this week, with several comic fan favorites making the list.

Under the category of Drama Series, NBC’s Heroes, the surprise hit of the year makes the list, as does Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura for Supporting Actor in a Drama. The series also received a nod for Art Direction, and editing for the Heroes: Genesis episode.

While not comic-specific, Entourage, which featured series star as Aquaman in the Season 1 arc, made the list all over the place - and if you aren’t watching the HBO series, what’s wrong with you?

Battlestar Galactica also had several nominations including Felix Alcala in the Director for a Drama category, Ronald D. Moore for writing the two part Occupation/Precipice episodes. The series is also up for Sound Editing For A Series, as is the CW’s Smallville.

Heroes Cast Expands

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

The Hollywood Reporter has a list of all the new people joining the hit NBC show Heroes this fall. Barry Shabaka Henley, Holt McCallany, David Anders (from Alias), Japanese pop star and actress Eriko Tamura, Lyndsy Fonseca and Dianna Agron will have reoccuring roles throughout the season.

David Anders will play Takez Kensei, Hiro’s childhood hero and samurai warrior, while Tamura will play a Japanese princess. We had previously posted the rumor that Miss Universe was up for the part.

anders.jpgtamura.jpg

Henley will play Detective Fuller, a New York police officer. McCallany will play Ricky, the ringleader of a group of Irish thugs.

Fonseca and Agron will play beautiful cheerleaders in Southern California, where Claire (Hayden Panettiere) is expected to move. Fonseca’s character April is sweet, while Agron’s Debbie is a mean girl.

Looks like we really are getting X-Men Lite with the addition of new powers and people, although I can’t really picture Anders playing a Japanese Samurai.

Miss Universe on Heroes?

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

Could we see the very hot Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori next season on Heroes?  According to a report from the Associated Press, the dancer may be up for a role that would be a love interest for one of the main characters.

missuniverse.jpg

“As soon as I won Miss Universe I had this big chance,” Mori said in an interview Monday. “I’ve never acted before. I went to the casting audition and read a script in English and Japanese, and they said it was really good. So I hope I can be in the show.”

Well if her acting is halfway decent she should do very well on the show.  Considering her heritage, I wouldn’t be surprised if she is a love interest for Hiro.
