Major Spoilers Hero Drive Update

Monday, April 14th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Major Spoilers Hero Drive 2008

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who has subscribed to the Major Spoilers Podcast via iTunes, RSS feed, or direct download (hermit, I’m looking at you), as each new person listening to the show is helping us help the Hero Initiative.

To date, we have raised over $200 for the organization, but we are hoping to raise at least $300 more.

So tell your friends, tell your relatives, heck, tell all those guys hanging around your local comic book store to head over to the site and start listening to the Major Spoilers Podcast! Remember, the Major Spoilers Podcast is a completely free podcast (one of the many free things that you get here at Major Spoilers, even though we have yet to make a single dime in all of our two years), you aren’t being asked to contribute to the Hero Initiative because we are doing that for you. All you have to do is subscribe.

What is the Hero Initiative? Check out their site for the full info.

Listener Drive Raises Money for Comic Creators

Major Spoilers Hero Drive 2008

The month of April is pledge month for the Major Spoilers Podcast (www.majorspoilers.com). But unlike other pledge drives that ask listeners to give money, Major Spoilers is flipping the tables and pledging money directly to the Hero Initiative (http://www.actorcomicfund.org/) to aid comic creators.

Friday, October 19th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

John_Romita_Sr_2006.jpgJohn Romita Sr., longtime Spider-Man artist, is auctioning his time to break bread with comic fans and art lovers.  The auction is to benefit The Hero Initiative that help comic book creates in medical or financial need.

You can bid on the auction over at eBay.com and is being administered by AuctionCase.

The Hero Initiative and Romita have gone out of their way to make each of four events special in its own way. The events include:
o Tuesday, Nov. 27: Win a tour of Marvel Comics with John Romita Sr., and lunch with the Marvel legend!
o Wednesday, Nov. 28: Lunch with John Romita Sr. AND current Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada.

3-Minute Sketchbook

Friday, October 12th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

3min_cvr_zP.jpg

I really like sketchbooks, I especially like sketchbooks with themes.  The Hero Initiative has its own sketchbook coming out soon with 3-minutes being the theme.

Comic fan Michael Finn has been going to conventions for years getting “3-minute sketches.” He’ll toss an artist a backing board, and ask him to do a sketch in three minutes, no more. The results are often stunning and surprising. Now, The Hero Initiative has collected Michael’s sketches into this great art book, featuring contributions from Neal Adams, Steve McNiven, George Pérez, John Romita Sr. and Jr., Walter Simonson, Michael Turner and MORE!

If you can’t wait until October 31, you can get a copy now from Lone Star Comics in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and get entered into a contest to win an original sketch by Darick Roberson.

Top Cow Productions to Help Out The Hero Initiative

Monday, January 15th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

UnusualSuspects001.jpgIn March, Top Cow will be donating all proceeds from the 96-page Unusual Suspects graphic novel to The Hero Initiative.

In a prepared statement, Top Cow President Matt Hawkins said, “When Hero Initiative President Jim McLauchlin asked if we would publish a book as cool as this for such a worthy cause I jumped at the chance. Sometimes it’s important to do something for no other reason than just giving back to those who paved the road for all of us.”

The Unusual Suspects is written by Dan Wickline and illustrated by Nat Jones (Spawn), Ben Templesmith (Fell), Tone Rodriguez (Conan), Chris Moreno (Sidekick) and many more. Everyone involved on Unusual Suspects donated their time to maximize the benifit for The Heor Initiative.

The Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for yesterdays’ creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment. For more information, visit www.HeroInitiative.org or call 310-909-7809.
