Here are the bullet points from today’s Dark Horse Comics Panel. Hey, we can’t just cover DC and Marvel now, can we?
Heh - good stuff when Hellboy gets involved.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army came out on the top of the heap this weekend, bringing in an estimated $35.9 million at the box office. I went to check the movie out on Friday, and while it was a very good movie, I still like the first Hellboy flick better. The acting was great, the makeup and special effects superb, but for some reason Hellboy II felt a whole lot like the first Men in Black movie. I think it had something to do with the background gags and music.
Speaking of Will Smith, Hancock slipped 47% from last week, but was still able to bring in $33 million.

More after the jump!
What a weird tie-in commercial to promote the upcoming Hellboy II: The Golden Army film.

With Hellboy II: The Golden Army coming in July, there’s no better time to get up to speed on what’s happening with the characters in the B.P.R.D. Dark Horse will be releasing three new B.P.R.D. titles by Mike Mignola and B.P.R.D. vet John Arcudi into the Hellboy Universe for summer reading pleasure—with new revelations for Liz Sherman and the origin story for Johann Kraus, as well as a bit of backstory for the Bureau’s battle with the infamous frog creatures.
Yahoo! Movies has the exclusive debut of the brand new Hellboy II Trailer. Even better, you can download the movie in high definition so you can get a good eye full of all the monstery goodness.

More Indiana Jones stuff is headed your way in 2008, including a fairly inexpensive Indiana Jones Mini Bust ($55.00). Take the jump for a peek at some of the licensed products from Gentle Giant.
The Hellboy 2: The Golden Army movie site went live recently, with messages from Director Guillermo del Toro, a scrapbook, synopsis and a video of Abe Sapien.

The movie arrives in the summer of 2008.
Dark Horse Comics has announced Abe Sapien: The Drowning will feature the water breather in his own five-part miniseries.
A century ago, paranormal investigator Edward Grey fought and destroyed a powerful warlock off the island of Saint Sebastian. In the early 1980s, the B.P.R.D.’s special agent Abe Sapien was sent to retrieve the warlock’s remains. This simple mission turns to disaster and Abe Sapien finds himself alone against supernatural forces older than mankind.
The first issue will land in stores in January 2008 for $2.99.

Dark Horse Comics has sent Major Spoilers the solicitation information and cover images for titles shipping in December 2007. Take the jump for the complete list that includes all the Indiana Jones you could want in one volume, Mike Mignola goodness, everyone’s favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and Faith too), lots of Conan, and Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars!
Emmy Nominations were announced this week, with several comic fan favorites making the list.
Under the category of Drama Series, NBC’s Heroes, the surprise hit of the year makes the list, as does Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura for Supporting Actor in a Drama. The series also received a nod for Art Direction, and editing for the Heroes: Genesis episode.
While not comic-specific, Entourage, which featured series star as Aquaman in the Season 1 arc, made the list all over the place - and if you aren’t watching the HBO series, what’s wrong with you?
Battlestar Galactica also had several nominations including Felix Alcala in the Director for a Drama category, Ronald D. Moore for writing the two part Occupation/Precipice episodes. The series is also up for Sound Editing For A Series, as is the CW’s Smallville.

Drat! My TiVo has been acting up lately, locking up at the most inappropriate times. The most recent lock up failed to record Hellboy: Blood and Iron, the second Hellboy Animated movie. I was really looking forward to it too. Guess, I’ll have to wait until it hits on DVD to pick it up.
In our interviews with Tad Stones, he has always said a third picture was in the works, but only if the first two did well.
no green light yet but when I have time I proceed as if we have one so that means organizing reference for my crew. As I’ve said previously, The Phantom Claw highlights the “mad scientist” side of Hellboy and nobody designs a mad scientist lab like Mike Mignola.
The story idea sounds pretty darn cool, and I hope we get to see a cameo by Lobster Johnson. Let’s hope everyone gets the go to move on with this project.
There are changes coming to the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, but that isn’t necessarily a good thing.
Abe’s encounter in Indonesia has brought a new member to the Bureau, and Johann finds himself in possession of a very valuable commodity. The B.P.R.D. will need all of its resources to handle the sinister forces that have wormed their way into the heart of the Bureau itself, blurring the lines between the hunters and their prey!
The next chapter for the Bureau begins August 1.

In our interviews with Tad Stones, he’s alluded to future Hellboy Animated projects waiting in the wings. Tad posted on his blog site a wee bit of information on the third film called The Phantom Claw. WOOT! How awesome of a title is that?
The Phantom Claw will be an original Hellboy movie that has its roots in the comics, expands on several themes.
When it came time to talk seriously about the third movie, three elements resurfaced: Lobster Johnson, Hellboy’s origin, and classic Universal Monster movies. If Sword of Storms was the folklore side of Hellboy, Blood and Iron the vampire/Hammer Films side then The Phantom Claw is the mad scientist/weird technology aspect of Hellboy stories. This film will be completely different than the first two.
Finally, a few general notes then I have to get back to the script. Abe and Liz are not along on this adventure. Professor Broom only sends Hellboy and Kate Corrigan to investigate the castle where Hellboy was summoned to Earth. No one has been back there since the War, kept out by a secret society working behind the scenes. (Yes, the animated version has a different origin locale than the feature which is different from the comic). Lobster Johnson will appear in various forms but the movie is not about him. The closest comic to his role is Conqueror Worm and a variation of the scene that you see above will be in the movie. There will be glimpses of Ilsa, Leopold and Kronen in the flashbacks to Hellboy’s origin but they’ll be closest to their comic counterparts. Rasputin is the major villain although we’ll introduce another who Mike is so excited about that he’s threatened to design the guy himself. Cool.
Cool indeed Tad! Can’t wait to see it!

If you haven’t read the very fast interview I did with Tad Stones yesterday, you really need to read it. Like now would be good (I’ll wait).
…
Back? Did you catch the bit about Turok, Son of Stone? The Animation Guild (TAG) official blog has a quick quip about Turok as well.
Another project in the building is Turoc, Son of Stone, a property that’s seen service as a Gold Key comic and video game. Well, it’s now boing to be a 70-minute DVD produced for Classic Media being supervised by animation veteran Tad Stones.
Cool, a full on feature. With what Marvel and DC are doing with their direct to DVD animated features, I have a feeling more companies will jump on board with their characters as well. If Tad does to Turok, what he did with Hellboy, I think we will all be very very happy campers.
