Or – “Named For The Roman God Martius, God Of War…”
Not to be confused with famed Martian general Marvin, whose computers are so complex and naughty… Traditionally, this month has signaled the beginning of the season of military campaigns, and also the time when college basketball generals lead their troops unto the field of battle. For me, working in small-market TV for as long as I did, it’s a month which signals mighty pains in the butt, which explains why this is technically the FEBRUARY edition of RFR. We apologize for the inconvenience… Better to just press on.

With the success of Avatar, H’wood is going nutso over 3D movies (stereoscopic, not animation). Warner Bros. thinks Green Lantern would make a really keen movie to turn a glasses wearing event, and have dictated to director Martin Campbell to make it so.
This follows a growing list of movie Warner is tweaking to compete with 20th Century Fox including the Sucker Punch, Clash of the Titans, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and probably more by the time you finish reading this story.
The gimmick didn’t save the industry back in the 50s, but hey, I’m not the one in charge, so we’ll let those that don’t remember the old days repeat the failures once again.

For those who were wondering if the Brightest Day event would include a white ring, the short answer is, Yes. For the longer answer, The Source has the low down.
With BLACKEST NIGHT #7 on sale today, we’re happy to announce a new, White Lantern promotional ring, tying into retailer orders for BRIGHTEST DAY #1. Want one to complete your set? Then make sure to mention this to your local retailer:
For every 25 copies of BRIGHTEST DAY #1 ordered by 4/15, retailers can order one bag of 50 White Lantern rings, at $8 a bag.
Sign me up for a couple of those white rings, please. I also like the fact that DC Direct is planning on releasing a complete collection of rainbow rings that light up thanks to build in LEDs.
A while back, Gene Gonzales wrote about picking up Manga Studio to do all digital image creation. Today, he offers up one of his all digital sketches.

Tim Robbins has been cast as Senator Hammond, the father of villain Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), in the upcoming Green Lantern film from Warner Bros. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in New Orleans in March as it heads toward its June 17, 2011 release date.
Except for the Sinestro sketch, I’m liking everything I’m seeing from the artist that we could eventually see in the Green Lantern movie.
Behold the Guardians!

And then there is Sinestro…

Or – “There Are Old Pilots And Bold Pilots, But Few Old, Bold Pilots…”

I saw recently that a clinical study proved that January 25th is the most depressing day of the entire year, scientifically and unequivocally. While I don’t disagree with that sentiment (especially as it regards the attendance of employees in Midwestern United States call centers) I find it fascinating that somebody actually got paid to try and figure out something that silly and (let’s be honest, here) banal. Still and all, it’s the kind of story that you read and go, “Yeah, I can see that.” Thus, to ease your slowly-receding ennui (and Stephen’s not-so-slowly receding hairline) I give you another batch of coverage of comics you might have read, but forgot to laugh at the first time… Rapid-Fire Style!
Check out these concept images for Kilowog and Tomar-Re for the upcoming Green Lantern movie.

Now tell me that if these images move from concept to production that the Green Lantern movie just didn’t get a whole lot more awesome.

For a while, we’ve been wondering which Green Lantern villain would appear in the upcoming Ryan Reynold Green Lantern flick. H’wood has answered by tagging Peter Sarsgaard to play Dr. Hector Hammond. With Blackest Night being a big deal right now, it is to understand why the Suits would decide to go this route. On the other hand, I’m sure many will be surprised Sinestro isn’t making the big villain debut. From the Warner Bros. standpoint this decision does make sense as Batman Begins did the same thing with Scarecrow and Ra’s al Ghul before the big Joker flick that was The Dark Knight.
Green Lantern is schedule to begin shooting in March.
DC has just announced its next big company wide event following Blackest Night. Naturally it will be called Brightest Day. The series will kick off in April as a bi-weekly, 26-issue series written by Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi.
My guess is the next big story after Brightest Day will be “No Evil Shall Escape”, which will be a series similar to “Run”, and so on.

Blake Lively will star opposite Ryan Reynolds as Carol Ferris in the Green Lantern live action movie. You may have seen Lively in Gossip Girl, the Private Lives of Pippa Lee, and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Notice I said YOU may have seen those works, because I have not.
Green Lantern begins filming in March with a June 17, 2011 theater release.
Or – “By Your Powers Combined…”

So, millions of dead folks have arisen, and the heroes of all galaxies have been driven to the edge of destruction trying to fight off their own dead… The bearers of light have a big task ahead of them, especially given their own internal antipathy, and Nekron’s masterstroke at the climax of last issue. Who’s walking away alive? I can’t say as I’m willing to bet on anybody (but then, half the characters are dead already, so I’ve got better odds than many of my predictions.)

Would you believe they haven’t picked an actress to play opposite Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming Green Lantern movie? Production has been relocated, Reynolds says he is excited about the look of Green Lantern for the film, and now it looks like five actresses are being considered for Hal Jordan’s girlfriend, Carol Ferris.
Who are they? Well, I don’t want to spoil it for you on the front page, so you’ll have to take the jump to see who’s on the short list.
Someone said clothing is not a present, and while we could argue the semantics and arguments for and against that claim when it pertains to underwear and socks, the Green Lantern Costume Hoodie is an excellent gift for those who want to cosplay, without actually cosplaying. The hoodie features a mask that covers the top half of the face, and looking at the full pullover, it actually looks like a pretty cool uniform that might work in one of those 52 Earths currently featured in the DC Multiverse. There’s still time to order the hoodie for the holidays and it will only set you back $49.99. This definitely falls in the ME WANT! Category.
