Or – “Hey, Vent! You Ready To Move Out?”

When you read monthly comic books the way that I do, often times you get to the point where you feel like you know what’s coming, when every title feels like you’ve read it before. On the other hand, you have the odd experience where you read a title or issues that you KNOW you’ve read before, but you cannot for the life of you remember how it’s supposed to end. With over a hundred monthly titles coming out, sometimes you need to play catchup, you need to go where everybody knows your name to the land of the Rapid Fire Revieeeeewwww!
During the Geoff Johns panel, Johns said that there would be more of those plastic Blackest Night rings on the way to stores as the series plays out. Best of all, people are going to be able to snag rings in all the Corps colors.
That is like ten kinds of AWESOME! I think I’m going to turn into a bit of an Orange Lantern when I say, “MINE! I must have them all!”
Or – “Of Course I’m Serious. And Don’t Call Me Shirley.”

Oh say can you see…
By the dawn’s early light!
What so proudly we hail…
In the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose bright stripes and broad stars,
In the perilous night…
For the ramparts we watched,
uh, da-da-da-da-da-daaaa…
And the rocket’s red glare!
Buncha bombs in the air!
Gave proof to the night!
That we still had our flag!
Oh say does that flag banner wave,
Over a-a-all that’s free!
And the home of the land…
And the land of the – FREE!

Or – “Off To Meet My Doom, Mom! See You After School!”

Comic book publishing schedules puzzle me. The Twelve hasn’t come out in what seems like a year, while Agents of Atlas is apparently on a bi-weekly status, and Spider-Man is coming out every sixteen minutes or so. Wolverine alone accounts for half the forests destroyed in the United States every month. The major publishers can’t seem to decide whether it’s a market for the celebrity auteur writer, or whether it’s the characters who sell the books regardless of creator. When Wolverine #73 came out a few weeks ago (before the publication of #72) it occurred to me that the entire industry is run by the pointy-haired boss from Dilbert, and that I should really just relax.Â
Check it out!
So far I can pick out Kal-L, Martian Manhunter, and Mirror Master. Do I also see Ralph Dibny and Aquaman?
Although had I been paying attention, they’d each have gotten their own day, but what the heck, today is going to be jammed full of stories.
Indigo Lanterns after the jump.
Yup, another batch before the free comic book hits the stores this weekend during Free Comic Book Day.
Today’s Lantern entry features the Sinestro Corps. Look for the complete collection coming soon in the upcoming Blackest Night Free Comic Book Day book coming May 2, 2009. Or if your comic book store is giving these away early (I’m looking at you comic book shop in Overland Park, KS), you already know what follows next.
From a tipster:
Those info sheets of the various Lantern Corps, including Corps not yet posted on The Source, make up the back portion of the issue. The first half, by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, involve a conversation between Barry and Hal.
Well there you go…
Apparently there is some interesting info in the back of the book that details the 24 issues related to Part One of the Blackest Night saga.
There can be only one (Orange Lantern), and Agent Orange is featured today in the rundown of colorful Lanterns appearing in the Green Lantern titles leading up to Blackest Night.
Or – “Meanwhile, Back At The Space Ranch…”

While Hal Jordan has had his hands full with Red and Blue Lantern issues (and been possessed by rings of both Corps) in sector 666, the rest of the known universe has also been dealing with buildup to the upcoming Blackest Night, and the remaining 7199 Lanterns have likewise been out and about with things to do, but only one book to show for themselves… Now that I mention it, 7199 to 1 seems to be an unfair ratio of Green Lanterns between the two books. Hal Jordan must have one hell of an agent.
Alex Segura over at The Source, has been releasing sneak peeks on the upcoming Blackest Night series. Today the site has the three joined covers to Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps #1-3 by artist Ed Benes’. Very cool, and sure to be the wallpaper for more than a few people. I’m digging it, and can’t wait for the action to crank into high gear in what could be the biggest series DC has released since Sinestro Corps War.

DC has announced Green Lantern #33 has sold out at the distributor level and is heading back to press for a second printing. The issue featured the Origins & Omens back up tale as a prelude to Blackest Night, and kicked off the first chapter of the 6-part Emerald Eclipse story line.
The Peter J. Tomasi story will feature a new cover utlizing interiror art by Patrick Gleason and Rebecca Buchman, and is scheduled to be in stores on March 18, 2009.
Or – “Lethal Force From A Green Lantern Seems Like A Contradiction…”

I’ve mentioned in previous coverage of the Sinestro Corp War that I think the Guardians of the Universe may be making a mistake in releasing the ‘No Lethal Force’ directive on the GLC’s power rings. Yes, it’s a hoary old cliche, and yes, the Corps is facing the most deadly threat of their history, but I’m honestly troubled by Green Lanterns becoming killers. Of course, the Sinestro Corps is bringing the pain on a global scale, and they’re shooting to kill, but isn’t giving GLC members additional power what put Sinestro on this path in the first place?

In its latest press release, DC Comics has announced a whole lotta comics going back to press. Among them are Green Lantern 323, Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Parallax #1, Birds of Prey: Between Dark and Dawn TP, Planetary: Crossing Worlds TP, and Supergirl: Power TP.
“It’s really gratifying to have readers respond to the PARALLAX Special this way, because we set out to do something different with it,” says writer Ron Marz. “The Sinestro Corps War storyline has been full of slam-bang, widescreen action, so we wanted the Parallax chapter to be a change of pace — more of a psychological story that gives the audience a look inside Kyle’s mind. It’s great to be part of an epic that’s worthy of the term.”
Unfortunately, the Trick ‘R Treat miniseries is being postponed and will be resolicited at a later date. My guess this is a Halloween themed series that was originally scheduled for October. Doesn’t make sense to offer it in November or December, so I expect we will see this next year.
The company also sent along th latest Sinestro Corps War schedule and a clarification to one of the titles in the series. You can see all that after the jump.
