Or - “Three Weeks Of Comics In Handy Bite-Sized Servings!”

A side-effect of reading as many comics as I do comes when, after a particulary heavy week of reads, you find all the stories kind of blurring together into one. It makes for some pretty entertaining nightmares as well, like the one where Wonder Woman was guarding the galaxy against marauding zombies who wanted to shape-shift into teenagers and make out while simultaneously refitting all of our cars to fly and emit fire, and also giving our grandparents cyborg limbs that glow in the dark. So, I got that going for me… which is nice.

Or - “Because I’ve Fallen Further Behind Than Ever Before…”

I have to tell you, two weeks of being unable to type without crying like a little girl really makes your work pile up. The last couple of weeks of comics have been a tumultuous ride, with a whole lot of minor things happening that made me happy. An old favorite disappoints, while a surprise contender impresses the heck out of me. British vampires, time-lost Arcturans, underground civilizations, the chupacabra, and a fifty-foot stalk of marijuana await you, beyond the fold!

According to Slash Flim, the Green Arrow centric movie Super Max is getting a name change to Green Arrow.
The well-reviewed script, which sees Green Arrow facing off in a high security prison with DC villains like The Riddler, is by Justin Marks, who wrote the aforemenioned He-Man script that’s driving the Internet nuts right now.
Yeah, I think what happened is Warner Bros. did some research on message boards and sites like Major Spoilers and realized no one, NO ONE, would go and see a Green Arrow movie called Super Max. And seeings how the Green Arrow character is fairly popular thanks to The CW’s Smallville (he’s back for season 8 ladies), the name change seems very appropriate.

Or - “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone…”

Having been a married man for over a decade now, I’m always puzzled by the utilization (or the lack thereof) of marriage in comic book stories. With the notable exception of Reed and Susan Richards, whose marriage is one of their defining characteristics, most comic marriages fare pretty badly. In the post “One More Day” comic universe, it’s clear that most of the editorial staff holds marriage in the same sort of regard as the people who write the “I win this wrestling match and win your woman” angles in professional wrestling. Now, DC is giving us a title that stars a married couple, and I’m waiting to see how long it is before they end an issue with one of them storming out in anger and threatening divorce.

Or - “Occasionally, It’s Good To Have A Nice SHORT Mystery Cliffhanger…”

The look on Batman’s face right there is absolutely priceless. It reminds me of the moment where the Janitor hugged Carla on Scrubs, picking her up and shaking her side to side like a bear mauling a bull-moose, then sat her down, only to have her remark “I thought you were going to kill me.” His response? “I fought the urge.” Heh. Still, you know that something dramatic happened for anyone to wrap their arms around the Dark Knight, though if you read the Wedding Special, you may have a hint as to why.

DC Comics has announced the Green Arrow/Black Canary Wedding Special has sold out and is going back to press for a second printing.
“It was a wonderful surprise that all the fans RSVP’ed for the event and apparently enjoyed the pasta bar,” says writer Judd Winick. “I’m thrilled that interest in the Special is so high, I’m wowed that everyone showed up to see the 30-year courtship finally reach its zenith, and most of all that people got to see Amanda Conner strut her stuff. It’s an awesome issue, and we’re all very, very proud. We’re hoping the DIVORCE SPECIAL we’re planning does as well. (I’m kidding, but, y’know, these two lovebirds are trouble.)”
The second printing is scheduled to arrive October 17 with a cover by Ryan Sook.
While they haven’t sold out, DC said The Black Canary Wedding Planner, and JLA Wedding Special are still available for reorder.

Or - “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, And Deathstroke Too.”

Now, I’m not the best person to ask whether you should get married (it should be noted that I was only engaged for about six months after having known the woman for about four days) since I’ll always recommend the institution, but for Dinah and Ollie there is one question I have to ask. Why would she say yes to a man who not only lied to her about the death of her adoptive daughter, but let her believe Sin was dead for several days? Not that I doubt that she’s crazy about him and has been for years, but what she took as proof of his devotion to her, I took as proof that he still wants to do her thinking for her. Either way, they’re finally on their way to the altar, and we haven’t had a good wedding day fistfight since my friend Karl got hitched back in ‘96…

David Goyer was interviewed by Wizard and gave the site/mag an update on the current state of many of his projects, including the Green Arrow/Maximum Security prison thriller.
“We haven’t even officially turned in a script for that yet. The idea is that they’re mostly sort of third-tier DC villains, but that was part of the fun, that they’re relatively obscure. But Icicle is in it from JSA—from my days on writing that. I mean, people will recognize most of them. What we did was present to DC a list of people we wanted, and then they went through it on a case-by-case basis and told us whether we could have them or not.”
No script yet, means anything can happen. The script could be turned in and turned down, or given the green light. Considering JLA is the current fast track favorite, Super Max could be a long way off.

ComicbookMovie.com has posted a rumor that Matt Damon may play the role of The Green Arrow in the currently in pre-pre-production SuperMax movie penned by David Goyer. The film tells the story of a falsely accused Ollie Queen stripped of his hero gig and thrown into a super maximum security prison where he has to make a prison break with a bunch of B and C-list DC villains.
I met Matt Damon yesterday in the city during his break from the 3rd installment of The Bourne Identity series and I asked him if he was doing any comic book movies. He told me he was in the middle of negotiating the starring role in The Green Arrow movie!!

Well I called BS yesterday in regards to the Goyer penned Supermax movie. Late yesterday, Goyer posted the following on his website:
SUPERMAX
Is it real? The answer is “YES”, it’s a real project. It’s just in the early stages of development, but amongst the tidal wave of super-hero movies hitting the screen, this more classically post-modern take could be pretty damn fun.
The basic concept actually came about through Justin Marks, a terrific young writer my wife Jessika (a producer) had previously worked with. They thought the idea of a prison-break story set in a jail designed exclusively for super-villains was a cool one. And I heartily agreed. After some discussion, we decided it would be fun to frame a super-hero and toss him into the meta-human mix.
From that point, it seemed like the next logical step was to set the film in either the Marvel or DC Universe. That way, we could populate the movie with all sorts of cool B and C-character Easter Eggs. We eventually landed at DC. Green Arrow, given his hard-hitting, moralistic tendencies, seemed like the most interesting hero to put through the institutional wringer.
I’ll keep you posted as things develop.
If they want to make a prison-break movie, why does it have to be Marvel or DC? And again, who cares if it is B or C level characters who have no connection with the audience. This could easily be done with totally new characters that have no relation with any comic company. Goyer says this is in the early stages, and often early stage projects fall off the face of the Earth. If it is made, and actually looks like a well done movie, I’ll more than likely check it out.
Anyone still interested in seeing News Boy! ?

The Interwebs is a buzz today over an article posted at Wizard Universe that “claims” David (Batman Begins, but got punted from The Flash) Goyer has sold Warner on the idea of doing a DCU villain movie. But this isn’t some Secret Six retelling, instead it is about Green Arrow. Or at least it has Green Arrow in it for about 10 minutes.
Come on you really want to believe that?

Or - “Flashback, Garth! Doodleoodleoot doodleoodleoot!”
Anybody who’s anybody who reads Green Arrow has, at some point in the last few issues, asked themself that musical question: How in the name of Aiesha did Oliver Queen, best known for accosting the Guardians of the Universe about their percieved racism, utterly and completely dominate Slade Wilson, best known for killing everyone within arms’ length, in physical combat? After all, their facial hair aside, Ollie and Slade aren’t exactly in the same league. Deathstroke managed to tag The Flash with a knife, fer Pete’s sake. Answers are forthcoming, but not everyone will like what they reveal… (more…)

Neal Adams son, Jason Adams, posted at the Collector’s Society Message Board on the thieving that took place at the San Diego Comic Con this year. In addition to one of his own statues walking off, so too did two of his dad’s comics.
I found that the thief came back to steal 2 things from my father worth a couple hundred dollars each. He had a Superman CGC graded comic which he had drawn an original Superman portrait on and a Green Lantern with an original Green Lantern and Green Arrow portrait on. Both were on stands and both were gone while lower priced items were put in their place.
