Here’s a bit of G.I. Joe action, and after seeing the techno-go-go-gadget-cyber-suits, I’m questioning if this movie is going to be good, bad, or ugly.

IDW Publishing had a great hook with the Transformers movie adaptation, and it’s going to repeat the formula with a four-issue adaptation of the upcoming G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra. The series claims to give readers an exclusive peek at what to expect in costume design and plot twists.
“G.I. JOE was an essential part of my childhood. I saw COBRA agents around every schoolyard corner,” said Andy Schmidt in a prepared statement, IDW’s G.I. JOE editor. “It is an honor to be part of an intensely fun and uniquely relevant group of characters. As a lifelong G.I. JOE fan, to be associated with the wide release of the new G.I. JOE film in particular is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
The weekly series is written by Denton Tipton and goes on sale the first week of July, 2009.

IDW Publishing has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of titles arriving in stores on June 3, 2009. Take the jump for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Movie Adaptation #3, Transformers Best of the UK: City of Fear #5, G.I. Joe Movie Prequel #4, GI Joe: The Best of Duke TPB, Angel: Not Fade Away #2, Doctor Who Classics: Series 2 #7, Star Trek: Crew #4, Astro Boy Movie Prequel: Underground #2.
I’ve been wanting to feature Adam Warren in the Art Appreciation Moment of the Day for a while now, but just didn’t find something that clicked until now. I had a chance to see the new G.I. Joe trailer a few days ago, and it blew my mind. Yes, it looks cheesy and over the top with the special effects and slowmotion fight scenes, but I really want to see it.

Press Release
It’s the year of G. I. JOE! Building on the tremendous fan support of G.I. JOE: Origins and G.I. JOE: COBRA, published under license from Hasbro, Inc., IDW is pleased to announce extensions for both mini-series! Offering a look at the people who make up the team, G.I. JOE: Origins will become an ongoing series, starting in August. G.I. JOE: COBRA Special #1 will be released in September, offering insights inspired by revelations in issue #4 of that series, on-sale in June. For more information about IDW’s G.I. JOE comics, visit IDWPublishing.com/GIJOE.
“Reaction to all three of our G.I. JOE series has been beyond expectations, with both fans and critics raving about Origins and COBRA in particular,” said Andy Schmidt, IDW ’s G.I. JOE editor. “After seeing the fan response of both series, we came up with enough great content to extend them both. Even though neither series is over yet, fans are already asking for more. We’re grateful for their support on these books, and so we’re happy to give them what they want!”

You know what’s missing in the G.I. Joe trailers? Destro — chrome dome himself being played by former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston. So what will masked Destro look like? An overseas eBayer has the answer with a loose G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra figure currently going for $15.00.
Take the jump to see what you can expect.
This movie looks like a total cheese fest, full of the impossible and improbably, but damn if I don’t want to see it.

(San Diego, CA; January 13, 2009) – This month IDW Publishing debuts the singularly titled G.I. JOE, the first of three initial comic book series in which the elite military force G.I. JOE and COBRA are fully revitalized and re-established for a new generation of fans.
IDW set the stage with a kick-off issue, G.I. JOE #0, released in October, 2008, after it was announced that IDW had reached a deal with Hasbro to re-launch the G.I. JOE comic book franchise.

If you are ready to shout “Yo Joe!” at your theater screen, you’ll be happy to know Paramount has finally launched the official movie website. Presumably, the site will begin to feature more Joe-Goodness as the movie approaches release day, but until then, you can sign up for updates via e-mail.

That’s right, not one, not two, but three G.I. Joe titles will be coming your way in January 2009 from IDW Publishing. The company contacted us to let us know G.I. Joe #0 will kick off the three series, when it arrives in October.
G.I. JOE #0, a $1.00, 24-page comic being released next month, will debut three new series launching in early ’09. The issue contains three stand-alone five-page stories unique to the #0 issue, as well as character sketches and commentary from artist Robert Atkins, previews of upcoming covers, and interviews with the new G.I. JOE creators. The issue features two regular covers, one from Dave Dorman and one from JonBoy Meyers, as well as two special incentive covers from Atkins and a wraparound image by Ben Templesmith.
The good thing is Larry Hama, long time G.I. Joe writer is being brought in to pen the series with Atkins.
