Ok, maybe you didn’t read World War Hulk #1, but the return of the green goliath is going to rip through the Marvel U this summer and will have huge impact on everything to come. Already Hulk took the beat down to Black Bolt and Iron Man, now the war spills over into Ghost Rider and Avengers: The Initiative #4.

Marvel Comics has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek at both issues that arrive July 18.

It’s not often I get excited about seeing two companies do a crossover event (unless it is Batman and Captain America), but Unholy Union from Top Cow and Marvel could be one of those events.

In the oversized issue written by Ron Marz and illustrated by Michael Broussard, Witchblade and The Darkness find themselves meeting the Ghost Rider, the Incredible Hulk, and Doctor Strange.

“We packed as much as humanly possible into this one. I think we ended up with a story that gives each of the characters a moment in the spotlight, includes plenty of over-the-top action, and even plants a seed for Top Cow’s upcoming First Born storyline,” commented writer Ron Marz, “So we’ve got all that, plus ample opportunity for artist Michael Broussard to show off what he’s capable of. For a guy who’s just beginning his career, Michael is amazingly accomplished. He’s the real deal, and I’m happy to be working with him.”

The 40 page one shot will sell for $3.99. Major Spoilers has a sneak peek at the preliminary cover after the jump.

Marvel Comics helps us round out the week with a sneak peek at Ghost Rider #10, hitting stands April 11. The company also tells us the series and recent trade paperback have been selling out at Diamond Comics Distributors.

Daniel Way continues to write the Ghost Rider that fans have been clamoring for, combining elements of both the supernatural and macabre mixed with super hero action. Artists Javier Saltares and Mark Texeira have turned in art every bit as good as when they put Ghost Rider back on the map in the early 90s. Plus, horror master Richard Corben provided art on issues #6 and #7, adding even more spine-tingling visuals for the hit series.

Executive Editor Axel Alonso says, “Daniel Way has breathed hellfire back into Ghost Rider. The ongoing is tearing along, sales are great, and we’ve got some of the craziest, most dedicated fans in the business. Look for the series to get even hotter as Daniel Way digs deeper into the Ghost Rider’s roots and unearths some truly cosmos-shattering revelations. There’ll be more than Hell to pay.”

You can check out the five page preview and a cover preview for issue #12 after the jump.

Or – “Is He Alive, Or Is He Dead? And Why Does He Talk Like Elvis?”

I went to see Ghost Rider Friday night at our local theatre (a late-night showing marred only by overly loud sound and Nicolas Cage being 15 years too old for the role), and I was quite taken by the way they streamlined and simplified the origins of Johnny Blaze (while simultaneously cherry-picking the best bits of the OTHER Ghost Rider’s origin, powers and costume) and stunned that anybody ever thought Blackheart was a good character. Overall, it was an nice enough movie for homogenized Marvel Movie Product (TM and Copyright), but I was moved to go back to the source, to give those of y’all who haven’t seen it (or weren’t born yet) a look at the spark that lit the ol’ flame-head, and it’s… NOT what you might expect.

For the second week in a row, Marvel’s Ghost Rider took the number one spot at the box office raking in an additional $19.7 million. This is a huge drop of 56.6% from a week ago. Back in the day a drop of more than 20% was considered a box office failure (Jurassic Park 2 anyone?). However, the marketing gurus are spinning this to say the movie is doing even better than the box office indicates.

If you compare Ghost Rider’s $78.6 million (domestic) to date total, it already passed the total box office for Constantine, and some are speculating if Ghost Rider is able to continue, it could pass Daredevil. Interestingly, the world wide take for the flick is now up to $118 million.

I’m still on the fence on deciding whether to see this film or not. I haven’t been to the theatre in a long time, mainly because of other time commitments, but also because there hasn’t been that much worth seeing. Do I blow my movie money on Ghost Rider or wait for something better?

Sony and Marvel hit another one out of the ballpark this past weekend as Ghost Rider revved his way to the top of the box office charts raking in $44.5 million over the three day weekend.

According to Variety, this is the biggest opening of the year so far. I haven’t seen the film yet (was too busy with other shtuff over the weekend), but plan to see it before it shows up on cable.

Well, the good news is that I AM one of those fans so I’ve done my best to pay tribute to the Marvel comic character. I grew up with Ghost Rider and just like some of you I’ve waited a long time to see a Ghost Rider movie. There’s a lot of pressure to make good on that but it’s pressure that I welcome. I’m hopeful that the movie will introduce the Ghost Rider to a whole new generation of fans while reminding the faithful why he’s the coolest character in the Marvel Universe!
