Virgin Comics has announced it will be bringing the British adventurer Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future back to comic pages and to the silver screen.

Dare — described as Britain’s version of Buck Rogers — launched as a comic strip character in the Eagle magazine in the 1950s. He’s long been a favorite of Virgin topper Richard Branson, who led the effort to acquire the publishing, TV, movie and vidgame rights to Dare.

It was just a few years ago that Dan Dare was a 3D television series for overseas television. While the show never aired in the U.S., I was fortunate enough to know some of the crew working the series to get a glimpse of the then high quality work.

The new comic is set to debut in November with Garth Ennis, taking on the writing responsibilities. No word on a potential start date for the film.

Dynamite Entertainment has announced the recently acquired The Boys by Garth Ennis has sold out and issue #7 will be going back to press with a new cover by Darick Robertson and Tony Avina.

Dynamite stated. “It’s great news to welcome Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys to such a strong response, and we’re very happy to present this second printing alternate cover as fans have devoured this first Dynamite issue! Retailers and industry professionals have been discussing the issue and our good friend Cliff Biggers had summed up their feelings by saying he wanted to keep #7 on the racks as long as he could. And we’re happy to oblige, as keeping The Boys in print is an important goal. We’re also near out of the first print of the TPB and keeping our eye towards a new printing in the near future! “

Dynamite Entertainment has made the official announcement that Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys has found a home with the company. Issue #7 will be available in June, continuing the series. Dynamite also announced plans to publish the first trade paperback, collecting issues 1-6 in June as well.

“I’d like to thank Paul Levitz and everyone at DC Comics and Jim Lee and everyone at Wildstorm Productions for helping make this a smooth transition,” said Nick Barrucci. “I’m pleased to welcome the Boys to Dynamite Entertainment and look forward to working with Garth and Darick for years to come.”

“I’d like to thank all concerned at both DC and Dynamite for making this such a smooth and civilized transition,” said Garth Ennis. “My priority now is to get back to work on The Boys.”

“I’m quite excited about the opportunities that our series the Boys will gain by moving to Dynamite! I am also looking forward to many more years with DC Comics, working on a variety of excellent projects with the great people I know there,” said Darick Robertson. “I believe that this has been an unlikely ‘win-win’ situation for all involved, and glad we can all move on, still smiling. Fans of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys, which was recently dropped by Wildstorm, has been picked up by Dynamite Entertainment.

The series had a strong fan base (27,039 copies sold in North America in December), so why did DC drop the book? The company isn’t commenting, but certain hardcore hamster-lovin’ content may have had something to do with it.

Even though the series is creator owned, DC could have c-blocked the title from moving to any other publisher, but I praise the company for making the transition to Dynamite a smooth one.

Reports have Dynamite working out the publishing plans right now and we should see a publishing schedule for The Boys in the near future.

Marvel Comics has sent us a sneak peek of Garth Ennis and Clayton Crain’s Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears. This is the prequel to Ghost Rider: Road to Damnation, and takes place in the aftermath of another Civil War.
