Jimmy Palmiotti let it be known that the attempts at making The Pro by Garth Ennis with art by Palmiotti and Amanda Connor went nowhere as an animated movie, which has prompted the creators to gear the prostitute with superpowers toward a live action series.

we have been thinking of going the live action route with the project and my first and favorite candidate is Sarah Silverman. First off, she is funny as hell and I think has the right attitude. Second, she can act…which is important for this to work and last, she has more balls than most people I know and would be willing and able to pull this off just right, in my opinion.I also think the big screen needs to see more of her.

One should keep in mind that this is just Palmiotti talking, as there has been no official production announcement made.  If Silverman were really interested in the role, I’m sure her H’wood connections would have the production pushed through to green light and pro-pro status before you could blink.  While Silverman might work, and seeing her with blond hair might be a different experience, I wonder what the audience reaction would be?

Garth Ennis’ Battlefields is not your typical comic book series.  It’s not a glorification of war or violence, and it certainly isn’t meant to depict that time period as the Good Ol’ Days.  Instead, Battlefields: Dear Billy #3 demonstrates the impact war has on the individual and how they deal with it.

Seeing as how I’m just a few days behind on this post, I’m sure most of the blogosphere and the Intar-webs are already lit up talking about the cover to Dynamite Entertainment’s Herogasm mini-series.  The series spins out of Garth Ennis’ The Boys series, that takes a rather in your face approach to the superhero genre.  Fans of The Boys will be happy to note that Garth is writing this mini, with John McCrea providing the art.

“Garth has a few special surprises for The Boys planned for the back-half of his story and this mini is the first,” explained Dynamite Associate Editor Joe Rybandt. “While Darick works on the main series, we’re especially pleased that we were able to reunite Garth and John McCrea for this mini which will shock even the most hardcore Boys fan. Guaranteed.”

War is hell

dearbilly2picon.jpg

Regardless of the heroic tales one hears from those that fought in World War II, the horrors of war are probably greater than anything you’ve seen on the screen, or read in a book.  Garth Ennis continues his Battlefields series with Dynamite Entertainment’s Battlefields: Dear Billy, that follows a nurse fighting her own battle against the enemy.

Dynamite and Ennis appear to have a hit on their hands with Battlefields: The Night Witches, and the company has announced the second series to fall under the Battlefields banner will be Dear Billy.

“As with our opening series  -THE NIGHT WITCHES – I’m honored to be a part of this continued Battlefields series,” stated Dynamite Associate Editor Joe Rybandt in a prepared statement. “We work with some of the greatest talents out there and not only do we get The Boys month-in and month-out from Garth (and Darick and co.), but to get such strong, connective work from him within a genre he knows and loves is truly the definition of job satisfaction.”

Take the jump for a look at the cover by John Casaday and the first issue solicitation information.

preacher1.jpgEven though we won’t be seeing Preacher on HBO, Preacher will see his day in the movie theaters thanks to Columbia Pictures striking a deal with Vertigo.  As exciting as this news might be, this is only a purchase of the rights.  While Sam Mendes has been hired to direct the adaptation, no writers have been hired to pen the adaptation.

On the plus side, Sam Mendes did direct Road to Perdition, so there is hope this could turn into a really great movie.  Also on the plus side are producers Neal Moritz and Jason Netter who are also working to adapt Garth Ennis’ The Boys, also for Columbia.

JustAPilgrimHCCovTex.jpgDynamite Entertainment has announced it will collect the entire Just a Pilgrim story into a hardcover for release in December.

The “Pilgrim” was a U.S. Marine prior to “the burn” and during one mission, he and his comrades were left adrift at sea in a lifeboat, and forced to resort to cannibalism to survive, with Pilgrim being the only survivor by the time help arrived. During his incarceration for subsequent crimes against humanity, but before the great “Burn” the Pilgrim found God and after the Burn, when the sun had claimed the lives and life-giving water of the Earth, he found purpose.

Now, for the first time ever – the series that features the signature anti-hero, as created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Carlos Ezquerra, has been collected in one incredible hardcover edition! Featuring both the original mini-series and the sequel (”Garden of Eden”) mini-series together in a complete hardcover collection.  This volume also contains a complete cover gallery featuring the work of Tim Bradstreet, JG Jones, Glenn Fabry, and many more!

The Garth Ennis hardcover will sell for $29.99.

Boys11.jpg

Garth Ennis’ The Boys series, once at DC, but now residing at Dynamite Entertainment, is heading to the big screen in an adaptation by scribes Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay.

Columbia Pictures’ Original Films will produce the adaptation that follows the boys, who are tasked with keeping superheroes in line.

With all the press The Boys has received, the only way to make this a successful adaptation, to satisfy and anger crowds everywhere, is to approach this project with a hard R or NC-17 rating in mind.  I wonder if they will try and get Simon Pegg to star in the film?
