Before picking up Skaar: Son of Hulk #1, in stores today, you can read the events of Planet Hulk and World War Hulk for free. No, I’m not suggesting you hang around your LCS all day reading stuff for free, messing up the racks, and bending the precious, precious covers. Instead, I’m suggesting you head over to MDCU - that’s Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited - and red Hulk Saga online. Did I mention it is free?
The Hulk has been smashing his way through the Marvel Universe for years, but its time for a new generation to rise up. The Hulk’s son from the savage planet of Sakaar is all grown and ready to follow in his father’s footsteps and Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited has the exclusive all-new saga presenting the events that lead to the birth of Skaar in HULK SAGA, which can be read for free right now on Marvel.com!

Or, “F-R-E-E, that spells free…”

This past Saturday was Free Comic Book Day, and my family and I went to one of the comic stores in our area to partake in the festivities. Unfortunately, as we do not have the logistics to accurately plan a time of departure with a five-week old daughter, we missed out on many of the events at Heroes And Dreams. Fortunately, we did not miss out on the free comics! I picked up a copy of Gemstone Publishing’s EC Sampler, my wife chose the Bongo Comics Free-For-All, and we picked up a copy of DC’s Tiny Titans as our daughter’s first comic.

DC Comics has announced it has made the first issue of Vertigo’s Northlanders available on its website for free.
Northlanders
Written by Brian Wood
Art by Davide Gianfelice
Cover by Massimo Carnevale
Following the red-hot success of DMZ, Brian Wood’s NORTHLANDERS is a fresh take on the lore of the Vikings. NORTHLANDERS tells the epic tale of Sven, an exiled Viking prince who’s been living the decadent, high life in Constantinople — the 11th century’s answer to Las Vegas — but now must return to the desolate lands of his birth in the frigid islands of the North Sea to reclaim his vast inheritance. Intending only to take his money and run, he finds more than he bargained for as his former family and friends are enslaved at the hands of Gorm, his ruthless uncle.
What follows is not only a bloody quest to free his people, but also a young man’s struggle to discover where he belongs in a rapidly changing world . . . and what awful sacrifices it will take to make a Prince into a King. Joining Wood on this epic journey is outstanding newcomer artist Davide Gianfelice.
You can download the first issue of Northlanders from the DC site.
