Next Wednesday, July 22, 2009 Top Cow and select comic book retailers around the country want to win you to the Top Cow side of the force by giving away Cyberforce/Hunter-Killer #1 – FOR FREE!

Marvel is attempting to entice new readers to it Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited experience by offering Pride & Prejudice #1 for free. It’s a smart move by the company’s part as the second issue arrives in stores today.

Comic blogger Chris Sim, has announced the first chapter for The Chronicles of Solomon Stone is up for all to read online for free. The ongoing comics is a collaboration between Sims, Matthew Allen Smith, and Benjamin Birdie.
Sims plans on posting a new chapter at his website each Wednesday.
To build anticipation of the release of the next issue of Marvel’s War of Kings, the company is giving you the chance to read the issue for free on the Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited website.

If you have never read Sean Wang’s Runners series, you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy as soon as you can. If you can’t do that, head over to the newly launched website runnersuniverse.com to read the first series Runners: Bad Goods for free. The series takes a look at a group of alien smugglers who happen upon a shipment that is more than it appears – and then all heck breaks loose.
The follow up series Runners: The Big Snow Job, was to be published a year ago by Archaia Studios Press, but will now appear online when the Bad Goods runs concludes online.
“I’m still a fan of print comics,” continues Wang, “so the second series will still be collected into graphic novel format after it finishes posting online. But I hope to use the free webcomic to build the audience as large as possible in the meantime. I firmly believe that many who read the series online at www.runnersuniverse.com will still want to purchase the printed volumes. Hopefully, with a larger audience that is familiar with the series, comic stores can then order the books with more confidence that they aren’t ‘taking a chance’ on an unknown small press book. Wang does point out something every web comic fan should do – purchase the collected editions of your favorite series to support the creators. I’ve done it with Penny Arcade, Wapsi Square, Least I Could Do, Sinfest, and The Dreamland Chronicles. Runners is an excellent series, and deserves your attention.
Top Cow’s Let Us Win You Over campaign continues in March with 25 stories giving away copies of Witchblade #125. It’s a different set of stores and a different comic book each month through 2009.
Witchblade #125 is an over-sized 40-page comic, which launches the six part “War of the Witchblades” storyline. Since the events of First Born, Detective Sara Pezzini and dancer Danielle Baptiste have shared the mystical gauntlet, the Witchblade; but recently cracks have appeared in their relationship. The story is written by regular writer Ron Marz and ongoing artist Stjepan Sejic. The issue will be in comic shops on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 and normally retails for $3.99.
“With a Witchblade movie in the works, and writer Ron Marz working on a long-term plan for the character, issue #125 is a great place to jump on to the series,” said Matt Price, co-owner of Speeding Bullet Comics in Norman, OK. “And getting that first taste for free is even better! I applaud Top Cow for making this effort to draw in new readers to direct-market stores.”

The “Let Us Win YOU Over” initiative is a yearlong campaign by Top Cow Productions to give out free copies of its regular comics to potential fans in the U.S. and Canada through participating comic book stores. Each month, a different set of stores, each month a different free comic. The stores vary by geography and demographics. Top Cow has partnered with ComicsPRO to bring this promotion to fans and all of February’s retailers are members of ComicsPRO.
This week, Hexed #1 arrives in stores from Boom! Studios, and if you need a little extra push to pick it up, the company is posting the entire issue online for free.
