Going to be in Phoenix on Saturday?

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

deathdealer_01.jpgIf the answer is yes, head over to Atomic Comics on May 5th and meet the creative team behind Image Comics’ Frank Frazetta’s Death Dealer.

Writer Joshua Ortega and artists Nat Jones and Jay Fotos will be there to meet fans from 12 to 5PM, and I would bet if you ask nicely, they’ll even sign some stuff for you.

FRANK FRAZETTA’S DEATH DEALER is a dark fantasy epic that tells the story behind Frazetta’s enduring archetype. The story centers on the iconic character’s battle to keep war from enveloping the land of Iparsia. With big action, haunting characters and larger-than-life battles, FRANK FRAZETTA’S DEATH DEALER has quickly become one of Image Comics’ best-selling titles. FRANK FRAZETTA’S DEATH DEALER is a six-issue miniseries, carries a cover price of $3.99 and ships monthly beginning in April.

Free Comic Book Day Costume Contest

Saturday, April 28th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

01.jpgI really like it when stores go all out to support Free Comic Book Day, and I’m really excited about this year for several reason; Major Spoilers is sponsoring the free Spider-Man III event with MyExtraLife.com in Utah, Planet Comicon is taking place that same weekend in Kansas City, and Comic Book Ink will be hosting their second annual Free Comic Book Day Costume Contest.

The store will be awarding prizes in five categories this year:

  • Best Costume - Superhero (Youth Division)
  • Best Costume - Superhero (Adult Division/16 Years or Older)
  • Best Costume - Inspired by a Film (Youth Division)
  • Best Costume - Inspired by a Film (Adult Division/16 Years or Older)
  • Best Costume - Overall

Comic Book Ink is located in Tacoma, Washington, so if you are in the area, stop by and check it out.  Too bad the categories are superhero, I would love to see what costumes someone would wear if they were going as a character from Grimm Fairy Tales (pictured right).

Dyno Force #0 Absent from FCBD

Thursday, April 19th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

dynoforcepicon.jpg

Zenescope Entertainment has let Major Spoilers know Dyno Force #0, which was originally scheduled for Free Comic Book Day, will not ship. There appears to be some legal reasons for the delay that the company will not discuss, but Zenescope is working with Diamond to relist the issue along with Dyno Force #1 for only $.50 a book.

“We’re very disappointed that we will be unable to ship the FCBD issue of Dyno Force to retailers in time for the event,” explains Zenescope co-founder Joe Brusha. “We are still very excited about this series and we still plan to stick with a low cover price over the first few issues. This will give retailers a great product they can turn their customers on to without taking the risk they normally have to with an independent book.”

The company says it expects to have the Dyno Force situation solved within the next few months.

Friday, March 16th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

wolfmancoverpicon.jpg

On the weekend of May 5th, you have a couple of things keeping you busy; standing in line to watch Spider-Man III, and Free Comic Book Day. I hope you don’t think this makes for a busy weekend for you, because Robert Kirkman has you beat by a mile - actually several thousand miles.

Over that weekend, Kirkman will be making a 72 hour non-stop 5-city tour across the United States to promote his new series, The Astounding Wolf-Man. It starts in New York, then moves to Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and finally the Bay area of San Francisco.

THE ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN chronicles the life of workaholic CEO Gary Hampton. While on a rare family vacation, he’s bitten by a werewolf. Cursed to live his nights as a monster, Gary works to use these evil powers for the greater good. The story is part superhero, part horror and a whole lot of fun.

Zenescope Entertainment Comics for All Ages

Monday, February 5th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

picon.jpg

Zenescope Entertainment usually creates titles that are a bit on the mature side (Se7en, Grimm Fairy Tales, etc), but when Free Comic Book Day hits, the company will unveil its Gold Line and a new title for everyone.

We all know kids like dinosaurs and spacemen, so why not combine the two? Dyno Force features a team of mutated dinosaur heroes that battle aliens and a team of mutated, evil “Dino-soldiers” on present day earth.

In order to help prod sales, Zenescope has announced it will give away Dyno Force #0 for free during Free Comic Book Day. After that, issue #1 will ship with a cover price of $.25, issue #2 will go for $.75, and issues #3-6 will ship with a cover price of $.99. By August readers should be able to pick up all seven issues for less than $5.00.

If you think Rex is looking intense in the picture, take the jump for character sketches and the full cover preview.
