World-renowned fantasy artist Frank Frazetta filed a complaint today with the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York, against publisher J. David Spurlock and Vanguard Productions. The complaint alleges that in publishing the book FRAZETTA DEFINITIVE REFERENCE, featuring Frazetta’s artwork and prominently displaying his unique signature, Spurlock and Vanguard used the artist’s name for advertizing and trade purposes without obtaining prior approval, thus committing a violation of Section 50 of the Civil Rights Law of the State of New York.

Last week at the Emerald City Comic Con, the organizers and Frazetta Comics put together an auction to benefit Josh Medors’ fight with cancer. The best part about the entire event is it raised over $10,000 for Josh’s medical bills.
“The response of the comics community and fans alike has been amazing,” Medors said. “The money raised not only helps out with medical expenses, but it also takes a great weight off my shoulders and helps me focus on what positives I can. I could never thank everyone enough for what they have done for me.”
What started off with a couple of e-mails and phone calls to a few friends turned into a mega event, with over 130 lots of donated original art, books, prints, posters, toys and statues all sold at the auction. Fans unable to attend the event can still support Josh in the Ebay auctions, an original John Romita Sr. Mary Jane sketch, Willow Creek sketch books by artists such as Eric Powell, Tim Vigil and an the opportunity to appear as a zombie in THE WALKING DEAD.
That’s great news!
