Jeff Parker cleared up a rumor on his website about the status of Agents of Atlas and the Exiles series from Marvel. For fans of Agents of Atlas will be happy to hear that the series will continue. However, things aren’t so good for Exiles.
As for EXILES… well, as they say, you can’t save every patient. The best we did was a momentary blip with issue one of the relaunch, and sales went right back to where they were previously. In hindsight, maybe we should have waited a year or two before trying it. It was a blow to me, I was having a great time working with Salva Espin and Casey Jones, and felt I was getting into a good groove with issues that you’ll never see.
Exiles will officially end with issue #6, a double-sized edition.

Or – “The Exiles Lives Will Never Be The Same. Again.”

I’ve decided I want to work for Marvel. In the past few years, the powers-that-be at the House of Ideas have proven that they’ll publish virtually anything. Remember when someone decided that Thunderbolts would be best served by a complete change of cast, setting, scene, premise, art and story, and then seemed surprised that they barely got 6 months out of the resulting mishmash? Or recall how Grant Morrison was given free reign to initiate actual CHANGE in the X-titles, only to have it all retconned within moments of his leaving the title. There’s a real sense of “toss it at the wall, see if it sticks,” and nowhere is this more apparent than in the latest issue of Exiles, with wholesale change running rampant. But, does it all work?
Or – “It’s Ron Mysterio All Over Again…”

Ahh, the annual! Used to be, every summer, we’d be inundated with these things, most of which were either out of continuity or written by people so divorced from the core book that they might as well have been writing different characters. Why, back in the day, you could count on a big issue, with one story that kinda mattered but wasn’t very good, filled out with reprints you neither wanted nor cared about, as well as pinups probably drawn in half an hour to fill the page count. Meeeeemorieeeeees… Then came Avengers Annual #10, ruining it all. #10 is famous for being the first appearance of Rogue, but it’s also widely considered one of the best issues of the ’80’s by many fans, including a chunk of the powers-that-be at Marvel. And, being as how they’re into nostalgia, the concept of the annual is back… But has it returned to it’s roots as a meaningless thick issue that you really couldn’t care less about?
Marvel Comics has sent Major Spoilers full color previews of Wonder Man #1 and the Exiles Annual #1. Take the jump for all the fun!
