Or – “Menaces Gathering In The Shadows…”

Dynamo 5 has not had it easy in their first months as a super-team, being repeatedly forced to face down the various enemies of their late father, Captain Dynamo, dealing with the tensions of a new family, and trying to balance homelives with crime-fighting careers. Now, for one of the team, family is about to intrude upon her costumed life (or perhaps that’s the other way around) in the most horrifying way possible…

Another Thursday and another collection of sneak peeks of titles arriving next week from Image comics. This week it’s the second printing of The Mice Templar, Hiding in Time 3, Drain 5, Dynamo 5 Volume 1 TPB, and Noble Causes Volume 7.
Or – “The Ol’ Triple Cross Changeup…”

I’ll say this for Maddie Warner: she’s every bit as formidable as her archetypical forebear, Lois Lane. Faced with not one but TWO super-powered antagonists, she neither cowered nor begged for her life, instead choosing to level the playing field, turn the tables, and several other cliches that I can’t think of right now. In a team where the gothy girl is the muscle, the big jocky guy is the telepath, and the type-A team leader girl has the atypical power of supersonic flight, it’s just another example of turning a cliche on it’s head. With the Dynamo 5 forced to once again face their father’s infidelities, (though in a much more visceral manner than before) we’re all standing knee-deep in garlic butter with nary a lobster in sight… Whatever that means.

Fans of Dynamo 5 will want to check out this week’s sneak peeks from Image Comics. Also on the short list this week – Madman Atomic Comics 4, Gutsville 2, Repo 4, After the Cape volume 1, and the Nighly News trade paperback. All these titles arrive in stores next week.
Or – “Y’Ever Notice Superheroes Get Guns Pointed At ‘Em A Lot?”

I suppose it’s one of the hazards of the job, like I have to deal with arthritis, writers block, and repeated cuticle injuries from going through my back issues of “Legion of Super-Heroes.” The problem is, the Dynamo 5 aren’t really used to it yet, having only had papa’s powers for a couple of months now. With the agents of FLAG massing against them, Chrysalis in the wings, a mysterious Captain Dynamo impersonator at large, and their coordinator Maddie missing, it looks like the sibs are in for a hard time. Maybe Bobby Brady’s bad luck Tiki passed on to Visionary?

Image Comics has announced Dynamo 5 will see a price drop from $3.50 per issue to $2.99 beginning with issue #8.
Image Comics Publisher Erik Larsen said, “It’s hard to launch an all new superteam in a market flooded with them. Despite all that Jay and Mahmud have put out something unlike any other funnybook on the racks. We couldn’t be happier with the book performing far beyond our projections.”
Dynamo 5 has had a lot of praise from reviewers, including Major Spoilers own Matthew Peterson, “I very much enjoy this book, every month, for it’s old-school feel, but a modern execution.Always entertaining, Dynamo 5 has yet to hit a sour note.”
Take the jump for the full cover and more about the issue.

It’s a tad late due to the chaos of convention season, but Image Comics did come through delivering Major Spoilers a bunch of sneak peeks for issues arriving this week!

If you have been waiting for the trade to jump on Dynamo 5, your wait is about to come to an end. The first Dynamo 5 collection will be 176-page trade and will cost you less than $10.
“With issue four’s sell-out and the series’ rising orders, it’s obvious there’s a high demand for the trade paperback,” said creator Jay Faerber in a prepared statement. “We decided to go with a special low price, as I want as many eyes to see this as possible, especially with the new arc kicking off the same day!”
The trade, collecting DYNAMO 5’s first seven issues, begins with the death of the world’s greatest hero, Captain Dynamo, and his enemies’ subsequent onslaught upon on his unprotected city. With no one to stand against them, his widow locates his five illegitimate children, each of whom have inherited one of their father’s super-powers. Can these total strangers come to terms with their powers, their father’s legacy and each other as total chaos erupts?
Release date, price, and cover image after the jump.
Or – “You Just Wait Until Your Father Gets Home!”

When the Dynamo 5 team was put together, it was with the intent of protecting Tower City from the late Captain Dynamo’s greatest foes. Instead, they’ve found themselves cleaning up the various messes left behind by Daddy’s insecurities, infidelities, and sundry non-heroic acts. Now, with the return of Captain Dynamo (without even having a clone, a cyborg, and an armored version of him running about…) the very idea behind their assemblage has been called into question, and the D5 finds that things aren’t nearly as clear-cut. A deceased hero’s flaws can be overlooked, but when your deadbeat dad is flying over the city, I suspect it’s a bit harder to ignore…

It’s Friday, and if you were paying attention you noticed there wasn’t a sneak peek from Image yesterday. That’s because the company sent us so many sneak peeks this week that it spilled over to today, giving you plenty to gawk at as you slide into the weekend. Alien Pig Farm, Ward of the State, The Ride, and Dynamo 5 are just a few you can feast your eyes on after the jump.
Or - “Five Ways Father’s Day Can Really Suck…”

Growing up, my family never paid much attention to Mother’s or Father’s Day. I’m not sure if that’s because it was the 70’s and they weren’t full-on commercial juggernauts yet, or if we just didn’t much care… Either way, the various children of Captain Dynamo are about the celebrate their first Father’s Day since the reveal of their true parentage, and I predict that they’ll all have a fine time with nary a hitch. However, it should be noted that I predicted that Civil War would end with Captain Ultra and the 3-D Man joining the Avengers, so there’s a chance my prognostications are less than perfect…
