Dynamite Entertainment Lands Brothers in Arms

Thursday, June 14th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

BIA_mockcover_Final_t.jpgDynamite Entertainment has announced it has signed an agreement allowing the publisher to create a comic series based on the characters and story from the upcoming Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway video game. The agreement also allows the company to draw upon any other Brothers in Arms video games to develop storylines.

Brothers In Arms is based on the true story of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment of the famed 101st Airborne Division who were dropped behind German Lines on D-day. Players assume the role of Sergeant Matt Baker, a paratrooper (based on Harrison C. Summers and various other people), and the leader of an airborne squad from Fox Company. The Brothers In Arms games are a tactically accurate, “first-person shooter” style of game that combine meticulously researched and historically accurate weapons, weather, and environments with the excitement of first-person, “squad level” command in the European Theater during World War II. The missions range from dropping into France on June 6th to the final defense of Hill 30 eight days later.

In a prepared statement a Dynamite spokesperson said, “Brothers in Arms is one of the most popular video games in the market today. This should open up new doors for Dynamite, as well as for comic and gaming retailers. We’re going to launch this with a unique initiative! This should lead to existing comic fans who have not played the game to sample it, and fans who do play the game can come in to purchase the original comic at the same time. This is a whole new adventure for us on so many levels, and we’re really excited to have this opportunity to add another genre to our list of growing titles. Creative details are still in the preliminary stages, but based on the overwhelming response and praise we’ve had regarding our titles to date, we’re positive that comics fans, fans of the game, as well as military enthusiast and action seekers will be blown away by this new addition to our “dynamite” line up! We’re showcasing images from the game to let fans know we’re going after the cannon of the game, but with the “dynamite” ability to execute Dynamite has shown!”

I don’t get to play video games that much, as much of my time is spent working on this site or grinding for gold in World of Warcraft. For those of you that do play BiA, what do you think?

Dynamite Entertainment has announced it will be releasing the second issue of the all new Terminator 2 series this July. Terminator 2 #2 is written by Simon Furman with art by Nigel Raynor.

Dynamite stated: “As Sarah Connor noted in the T2, ‘the future is not set’ - and it is with that revolutionary statement in mind that writer Simon Furman and artist Nigel Raynor are able offer fans a very nasty and unpredictable taste of events to come. Brian Reed Joins Red Sonja

Friday, May 25th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

redsonja25picon.jpg

Dynamite Entertainment has announced Brian Reed, of Ms. Marvel and New Avengers: Illuminati fame, will be joining Michael Avon Oeming as the co-writer of Red Sonja starting with issue #25.

In a recent interview with Newsarama, Brian Reed said, “Sonja is a very strong woman, but there’s vulnerability under that hard warrior shell. She had a hard life as a child, and that has never really let up into adulthood. She was very much forged like a sword - subjected to various harsh and terrible events until she hardened into a proper weapon.

“What I love with what Mike has done so far is seeing those moments where her youth impacts on her present. He’s been doing a great job of telling a story from both ends, and really letting us see how Sonja became the woman she is today.”

Major Spoilers has a preview of the four covers by Ariel Ollivetti, Art Adams, Mel Rubi and Paul Renaud.

Sneak Peek: Marvel Zombie/Ash Reunion

Friday, May 18th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

picon.jpg

Dynamite Entertainment and Marvel Comics have announced veteran Marvel Zombie artists Sean Philips and Fernando Blanco are teaming up with regular series artist Fabiano Neves to complete Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness #4 and #5.

In a prepared statement Dynamite said,”Fans are getting the Triple Crown winner of artists with these last two issues of Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness. Teaming up Sean Phillips and Fernando Blanco with Fabiano Neves for the big climax is like… well, it’s like having the Marvel Zombies and Ash in the same series! Sean’s pencils certainly know their way around the brutal world of Marvel Zombies, and AOD fans went crazy for Fernando’s work on the final issues of AOD (and the final days of Ash), so to have them both work on Ash’s afterlife adventures is simply ‘Dynamite’! Of course, regular series artist Fabiano Neves and writer John Layman will continue their incredible work on Earth-2149, keeping Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness the pure brain-craving, chainsaw-slashing action and excitement that it has been from the very beginning.”

Major Spoilers has a sneak peek of issue #4 after the jump!

Highlander #10 Kicks Off New Arc

Thursday, May 17th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

picon.jpg

Dyanamite Entertainment has sent Major Spoilers the covers and solicitation information for Highlander #10, which kicks off a new story arc to celebrate the title’s first year.

In a prepared statement, Highlander writer, Brandon Jerwa said, “We’re going to see the comics debut of some familiar Immortal faces and there’s a surprising change of setting on tap as well. Duncan MacLeod fans will get what they’ve been craving, but that doesn’t mean cousin Connor is left out in the cold. I’ve been determined to make Highlander an accessible book for even a casual reader, but I will drop the hint that a viewing of Highlander: Endgame between issues 9 and 10 only enhances the experience. I could tell you more, but then I’d have to chop your head off…”

Hahahaha - chop your head off. Get it? Because that is the only way to kill an immortal? Well anyway, if a series can make it to the one year mark and still garner enough readers, then it is probably a pretty good story. Highlander #5 made the Top 300 list in March coming in at #147 with 10,971 issues sold.
