ROBOT OVERLORD: For some time I have been aware that many heroes take their names from some form of animal; Bat-man, Spider-Man, Wolf-Man… Animal Man.  The list goes on an on.  What we really need is more heroes named after robots!  B-27/z-Man, Computo-Man, the list would be endless and they would be all awesome beyond the comprehension of you mere mortals.  Until the day we rise up, I’ll have to put up with the likes of The Green Hornet, and will have to sit by, while Stephen and Matthew chatter on.

Press Release

Following the successful launch of Kevin Smith’s Green Hornet and Matt Wagner’s upcoming Green Hornet Year One #1, Dynamite Entertainment is proud to introduce an all-new, all-different Green Hornet in The Green Hornet Strikes! #1.  But who is this Green Hornet?  Is he a hero?  A criminal?  He doesn’t even know, himself.  In a near future where the financial crisis has not been resolved, Chicago is more corrupt than ever. The rich are few and wield unimaginable power and influence. The poor are countless and live without hope. Gangs vie for control of the streets. Heroes have long been forgotten, until now!

Or – “Named For The Roman God Martius, God Of War…”

RFRBBALL.jpg

Not to be confused with famed Martian general Marvin, whose computers are so complex and naughty…  Traditionally, this month has signaled the beginning of the season of military campaigns, and also the time when college basketball generals lead their troops unto the field of battle.  For me, working in small-market TV for as long as I did, it’s a month which signals mighty pains in the butt, which explains why this is technically the FEBRUARY edition of RFR.  We apologize for the inconvenience…  Better to just press on.

This week the Kevin Smith Green Hornet screenplay gets turned into a comic book (I hope you bought your copy), and I thought it fitting to dig up J. Scott Campbell’s cover to run as today’s Art Appreciation Moment of the Day.

In an interview with Shock Till You Drop, director Sam Bayer threw his hat into the ring in hopes of being considered to direct a movie adaptation of Dynamite Entertainment’s The Boys.

Yeah, I’m catching my breath but I’ve been offered some stuff. There’s one comic book I really dig that I want to go after that’s bad-ass. I’d like to get it, it’s called The Boys. It’s about a group of mercenaries and they’re job is to kick the shit out of superheroes who get out of line. It doesn’t get any better than that. In the world of The Boys, superheroes are scumbags. My youngest brother is a comic book historian and he introduced me to a lot of graphic novels like “The Dark Knight.” There are some great books I don’t think people have tapped into yet.

IF The Boys were made into a film, it would have to have a NC-17 rating, and would have to star Simon Pegg.

Dynamite Entertainment announced that artist Mike Lilly is returning to The Black Terror for a special single issue story.

“With his stark black costume and menacing skull, the Black Terror visually has all the ingredients of a formidable, threatening avenger,” says Lilly. “Even the sharp angles to his mask adds to this. To me he’s all these things as well as the ‘jolly-roger’ design evoking the swashbuckling pirate. He doesn’t follow in step with the system. When Ben Franklin said…’Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.’ …the Black Terror would step in to give you back that liberty with a kick in the belly and an upper cut to the chops.”

Take the jump for a sneak peek of the issue.
