Oh say can you see…
By the dawn’s early light!
What so proudly we hail…
In the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose bright stripes and broad stars,
In the perilous night…
For the ramparts we watched,
uh, da-da-da-da-da-daaaa…
And the rocket’s red glare!
Buncha bombs in the air!
Gave proof to the night!
That we still had our flag!
Oh say does that flag banner wave,
Over a-a-all that’s free!
And the home of the land…
And the land of the – FREE!

While we already have the Thursday schedule for the San Diego Comic-Con posted, the BBC has released its complete schedule along with the signings it has planned at the show.  Doctor Who and The Mighty Bosh take the spotlight in these signings and schedules.

I wonder if Julian will be able to get David Tennant to sign the Major Spoilers Poster as part of the Julian Challenge?

One of my favorite aspects of the comic book convention is walking around Artist’s Alley and getting original sketchs and art from the creators present.  At Heroes Con, Roger Langridge whipped up this piece, and shared it with the world.

Did lots of sketches! Oh yes! And by the end the requests for Doctor Who/Muppet mash-ups were coming thick and fast. Unlike many previous conventions, I didn’t get to bring a slush-pile of unwanted sketches back with me, but I reconstructed this one from memory on the plane home.

So very cool.  I wonder who ended up being the Doctor?  Kermit?  Fozzie?  Statler?  Yeah, I’m gonna go with Statler.

Yup, it’s time for another smattering of television rumors and tid-bits with an order of steak fries and a tub of mayonnaise on the side.  And by steak fries, I mean Megan Fox, and by mayonnaise, I mean get your mind out of the gutter.

Comic book publishing schedules puzzle me.  The Twelve hasn’t come out in what seems like a year, while Agents of Atlas is apparently on a bi-weekly status, and Spider-Man is coming out every sixteen minutes or so.  Wolverine alone accounts for half the forests destroyed in the United States every month. The major publishers can’t seem to decide whether it’s a market for the celebrity auteur writer, or whether it’s the characters who sell the books regardless of creator.  When Wolverine #73 came out a few weeks ago (before the publication of #72) it occurred to me that the entire industry is run by the pointy-haired boss from Dilbert, and that I should really just relax.

While IDW Publishing continues to deliver some very good Doctor Who comics, there might not be enough Doctor goodness to satisfy your craving.  If that is the case, then check out Rich Morris’ fan-comic that features all ten of the Doctors, Daleks, and much more.

With all the hoopla surrounding the young Matt Smith as the new Doctor in the next season of Doctor Who, the BBC finally unveiled who his assistant will be – and she’s even younger than he is.  Karen Gillian, a 21-year-old actress, will tag along with the Doctor on his next round of adventures that will air next year on the BBC.

Writer and executive producer Steven Moffat said they saw some “amazing actresses” but Gillan “walked through the door the game was up”.

He described her as “funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it”.

“A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too,” he added.

Even though she has appeared in a few shows, this is her first high profile project.

The Doctor has traveled the length and breadth of the universe, from the Big Bang to the Vanishing Point, from Old New York to New New York, from London to the Bay.  It’s Doctor, yo Doctor, he’s the Doctor, go Doctor, the Daleks can go and play!

(Can’t touch this!)

Who knew Doctor Who’s nemeses the Daleks couldn’t swim.  Volunteers were cleaning up a filthy pond in Hampshire, England when the Dalek head bubbled to the surface.

“I got the shock of my life when a Dalek head bobbed up right in front of me. It must have been down there for some time because it was covered in mould and water weed, and had quite a bit of damage. One of the dome lights was smashed, but the eye-stalk was intact and the head and neck stayed in one piece as I carefully lifted it out.”

That’s a very cool find, and from what locals have gathered, the menace has probably been in the pond since the 1970s when Tom Baker and crew traveled to the area to film a number of episodes.

Thanks for the reminder, Rob!
