Haven’t had a chance to check out Marvel’s Super Hero Squad, but I’ve heard good things from the under 10 demographic, and this weekend, Dr. Strange joins the show battling the dread Dormamu.

This family-friendly, action packed episode features Robert Englund as the voice of Dormammu and Jennifer Morrison’s (House, Star Trek) returns as the Wasp!

Marvel also let us know that The Super Hero Squad #1 is now available in comic book stores, and might be a perfect way to get your young one into the four colored world.

Or – “What Happens When The Smartest Heroes Are Neither Smart Nor Heroic…”

ill10.jpg

The first two issues of The Illuminati miniseries can be boiled down pretty succinctly by saying this: Overconfidence and arrogance nearly costs them all their lives. In the first issue, it’s a miscalculation as to the competence of the Skrull Empire, in the second, they overestimate their own ability to resist the phenomenal cosmic power of the Infinity Gems. Every time we see this grouping, they have done something incredibly stupid because they presume to be smarter than everyone else on the planet, and that hubris will, apparently, continue forever…

It’s not often I get excited about seeing two companies do a crossover event (unless it is Batman and Captain America), but Unholy Union from Top Cow and Marvel could be one of those events.

In the oversized issue written by Ron Marz and illustrated by Michael Broussard, Witchblade and The Darkness find themselves meeting the Ghost Rider, the Incredible Hulk, and Doctor Strange.

“We packed as much as humanly possible into this one. I think we ended up with a story that gives each of the characters a moment in the spotlight, includes plenty of over-the-top action, and even plants a seed for Top Cow’s upcoming First Born storyline,” commented writer Ron Marz, “So we’ve got all that, plus ample opportunity for artist Michael Broussard to show off what he’s capable of. For a guy who’s just beginning his career, Michael is amazingly accomplished. He’s the real deal, and I’m happy to be working with him.”

The 40 page one shot will sell for $3.99. Major Spoilers has a sneak peek at the preliminary cover after the jump.

Or – “This Is The Greatest And Best Retcon In The World… Tribute.”

reviewbubble.jpg

ill10.jpgI’ll admit it: I’ve been extremely hesitant to review this issue, simply because I don’t want to have it come across as bashing Bendis, Marvel, or the Civil War in general. I’ve been skeptical (heck, some might even say negative) in my reactions to CW as a whole, and this book contains many of the same characters, by one of the key writers of CW, detailing the retconned backstory that sorta-kinda led to the events in question. To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of Professor X or Reed Richards, and while I used to be a huge Iron Man buff, his recent characterization has put him in the category of “used to like that guy.” As much as I dig Namor and Black Bolt, I don’t know if the two of them and Dr. Strange can carry a five issue story for me. We shall see… So, now that Marvel has assembled it’s supergroup, what will the first Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Black Bolt album sound like?

Here are some more images from the two previews for Doctor Strange and Iron Man animated DVDs that are on the upcoming Ultimate Avengers 2 DVD (August 8 ). Both of the two direct to DVD movies tell origin stories of the lead characters, so you don’t have to see either of the Ultimate Avenger movies to know what is going on. A couple of facts: Iron Man will be a 3D generated character, while Doctor Strange will be a real S.O.B. at the beginning of the feature.

Just a few more days before Ultimate Avengers 2 is released on DVD, but we got an early look at the trailer for one of the next DVD releases from Lionsgate and Marvel Studios.  Doctor Strange will more than likely release in the first quarter of 2007, and will be an origin story.
