What would happen if the Disney Princesses were recast in Frank Miller’s Sin City?

More at Not a Fishing Lure (at least until Disney Legal gets involved). At least they’re keeping it G.

Disney has picked up the rights to the Transplants for an upcoming gig for Sam Raimi.
The parties are keeping a tight lid on the high-concept project, though it is described as a four-quadrant ensemble superhero story with a comedic bent.
It will be interesting to see how Raimi deals with the family friendly crowd at Disney - you can bet Transplants won’t be Darkman.

Boom! Studios has just announced a new partnership with Disney/Pixar to produce a series of comics based on some favorite Pixar titles and characters.
Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Wall*E are all on the list, but probably the most exciting is the announcement that Mark Waid will be writing The Incredibles title for the company that will feature cover art by Darwyn Cooke.
“Today, American comic books are aimed primarily at an older readership. Comics produced for an upcoming generation of readers are scarce - and BOOM! Studios aims to do something about that,” said Waid. “There will be comics for kids again!”
Those of you attending the San Diego Comic Con can stop by Boom! Studios’ booth (#2543) and pick up a preview book for the new titles for a mere $5.00.
“It’s nothing short of an honor to work with Disney Publishing Worldwide and Pixar for this project,” said BOOM! Studios co-founder Ross Richie. “We found kindred spirits in the creative counterparts we have at both companies, and have just really had a fantastic time finding the right writer and artist combinations to do the source material justice. I think young and old alike are going to love these books!”

I don’t know what I’m having for dinner, let alone what movie I will want to see in 2012. In a move it hasn’t done in many years, Disney unveiled a detailed road map of its animation production schedule into the next decade.
Probably the most notable item on the list is the return of Woody and Buzz Lightyear for Toy Story 3.

Variety is reporting that Disney and POW! Entertainment (founded by Stan “the man” Lee) will partner for three films based on Lee’s work.
“Nick Ratchet” will be written and directed by Richard LaGravenese. Larry Jacobson and Sonny Grosso are in talks to produce.
“Blaze” will be written by Gary Goldman.
“Tigress” will be written by Zoe Green. State Street Pictures’ Robert Teitel and George Tillman will produce.
Anyone know anything about these “creations”? I went to the POW! Entertainment site, and it had nada except they were movies in production.

Joseph Kosinski is having a pretty good quarter. First he signed on to do the remake of Logan’s Run for Warner Bros. now word out of the House of Mouse is Kosinski is in final negotiations to develop and direct the sequel to Tron.
When making the original, in order to convince the studio to take a chance on a first-time director, Lisberger shot a test reel, financed by the studio, involving the deadly Frisbee battle. In a case of historical synchronicity, sources said one of the things Kosinski will be doing is working on a sequence involving the movie’s Light Cycles to work out his vision for the movie. Sources also said visual effects personnel, for many of whom “Tron” was an inspiration to enter the business, already are jockeying for pole position to work on the sequence.
Well nothing against Tron, because I know there are a lot of fans out there, but creating a sequel to a movie few rabid movie goers have seen is taking a risk. If this is indeed a follow up to the original, and not a remake, I’ll check it out. If it is a remake, I say give me the original on Blu-Ray DVD and leave me alone.

In what appears to be another attempt to buy everything media, Disney has inked an exclusive deal with Stan Lee and his production company POW! Entertainment.
The multiyear contract calls for Lee — whose film-friendly characters include the Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Silver Surfer — to develop and produce all forms of entertainment for all Disney divisions.
I wonder if Disney actually looked at some of Stan’s productions before signing the deal; Striperella, Who Wants to be a Superhero?, and who can forget the David Hasselhoff/David S. Goyer Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD?
“Stan is considered one of the most creative and inventive forces in the industry today,” said Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook. Disney home entertainment prexy Bob Chapek was instrumental in landing the deal and will work closely with Lee on future projects.
Well if you say so…

In the battle of the box office it wasn’t Pirates v. Ninjas this past week, but rather pirates taking on the webhead. According to box office results, Pirates did a very good job in its first six days in the box office, but Sony is claiming Disney/Buena Vista pulled out some fuzzy math to propel the pirate movie above S3.
Arguably, the flap originated when Sony opened “Spider-Man 3″ on a Tuesday in 18 overseas markets and later claimed a six-day opening record of $232 million in addition to other more conventional landmarks.
Disney/BVI followed by heralding its “six-day” record of $251 million. But throughout the past weekend, verbal darts were flying — mostly off the record — about which distributor included or excluded certain boxoffice figures to bolster their respective claims.
As I’ve always said there are three kinds of lies; lies, damn lies, and statistics. Depending on which way each of these companies is tabulating their statistics on the box office draw, it could go either way. Instead of projecting figures, companies like Sony and BVI should use actual figures. This keeps them out of all sorts of hot water in reporting how much they owe their stars and such.

Variety is reporting that the House of Mouse has acquired the rights to Top Shelf Comix graphic novel “The Surrogates”. Jonathan Mostow will direct, with Michael Ferris and John Brancato signed as writers.
“This is a Philip K. Dick-like futuristic universe, but people who live a second life already on the Internet can relate to some of the themes here,” said Brancato, who with Ferris is adapting the Robert Ludlum novel “Sigma Protocol” for Strike Entertainment.
Subject matter is edgy for Disney, and Oren Aviv is eyeing Touchstone as a home for it.
“This is a grounded sci-fi premise, but there are big effects, and it’s clear from ‘300′ that people want to see different kinds of things, and this falls into that category,” Hoberman said.
In the story, humans interact vicariously through robots, which makes perfect sense for Mostow, Ferris and Brancato as their last film together was Terminator 3.
