Dark Horse makes two announcements today in relation to their highly successful Domo program. Dark Horse is partnering with 72 Productions to release Deadlocke, a special one-shot comic tie-in to Christopher Krovatin’s Venomous. Venomous, a Simon & Schuster young adult novel, is also currently in the works as a feature film produced by the Los Angeles–based company 72 Productions, run by Jen Chaiken and Sebastian Dungan.
Or – “I’ll Get You, My Pretty… And Your Little Centaur, Too!”

This would not the the first time that a young girl being chased by an evil witch fled to Oz in the hopes of finding her way back home…
(Of course, that means that Xander is probably Toto.)

I’m still playing catch-up with my comic reading and reviews, so here is a rundown of the second issue of the latest Star Wars series from Dark Horse comics, released last week, August 5th.
![]()
Sometimes you are lucky in life, and two of your most loved interest crossover. For the last 18 years, Dark Horse Comics has been giving Star Wars fans a reason to read comics and comic fans a reason to read Star Wars. This past July, they released another reason in the form of the new series, Star Wars: Invasion.
A little background on the Invasion series: it takes place during the series of prose novels known as The New Jedi Order. The New Jedi Order (or NJO for short) was a massive series that was comprised of 19 novels. Don’t be afraid though, you don’t need to have read all of them to enjoy this series, although a passing knowledge might help. I am going to refrain from giving much information that from the novels, as the comic may actually be more enjoyable without an in-depth knowledge of the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
On to the review.

Press Release
In a packed panel on Saturday morning during Comic Con, Dark Horse president, Mike Richardson called a surprise guest to announce Dark Horse’s plans to develop new comics and graphic novels for the Gold Key Comics’ superheroes. Fans were shocked to see Jim Shooter enter the room; the man recently named the “Steve Jobs of Comics” by Comic Book Bin.
Shooter is perhaps best known for his nine year tenure at Marvel Comics, beginning in 1982, with highlights including Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s run on the Uncanny X-Men, and Frank Miller’s run on Daredevil. Also under Shooter’s editorial reign, Walt Simonsen revamped The Mighty Thor and made it again a bestseller. Following his successful run at Marvel, Shooter launched the well-received Valiant comics imprint in the early 90s, bringing many of Marvel’s creators with him.
Now, Jim Shooter comes to Dark Horse as head writer for the re-launch of the Gold Key Comics characters: Turok, Son of Stone®, Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom, Magnus, Robot Fighter, and Mighty Samson, with further characters and new comic writers to be announced shortly.

It’s no secret that Dark Horse loves comics, but perhaps lesser known is the fact that Dark Horse loves baseball, too!
In celebration of the summer season and America’s greatest pastime, Dark Horse Comics and Challenge Online Games have teamed up to create the greatest sports franchise ever. In a move that will have agents talking for weeks, Baseball Boss will now feature Dark Horse players, including Concrete, Hellboy, Abe Sapien (B.P.R.D.), X, Rumor and Kraken (The Umbrella Academy), the Mask, Conan, King Kull, Cal McDonald (Criminal Macabre), SpyBoy, Ghost, the Goon, Grendel Prime, the Occultist, Go Boy 7, and Heath Huston (Fear Agent).

With over 150,000 people crowding the convention center, everyone may not have been able to get to the Dark Horse panels for the day. Luckily, we have the highlights – and not the Goofus and Galant kind of Highlights either. These are the Major Spoilers Rapid-Fire Roundup of Comic-Con News kind of highlights (with a fare amount of Goofus).
Dark Horse Comics and Felicia Day’s The Guild are teaming to bring the web series to comics.
The Guild follows six players, AKA “Guildies” (Bladezz, Codex, Vork, Tinkerballa, Zaboo, and Clara), who decide to finally meet in real life after spending months playing together in an online world. Their individual social dysfunctions lead to several problems in the real world, but together, as in the online game, they become greater than the sum of their collected baggage and start to become . . . well . . . kinda normal . . . er.
“I’m really excited to work in a new medium and expand the Guild universe,” said Felicia Day in a prepared statement. “The comics will be a great way for fans to become more involved with the characters, and see the characters interact in environments that we can’t afford to show in the web series. I can’t imagine working with a better company than Dark Horse. It seems like a perfect match for the show. Indie cred to the max!”
Day will write the series, but at this time no artist has been announced.

At the con, Dark Horse announced a bunch of new projects that the company promises is the next evolution of the comics medium. Oddly, only one announcement (made yesterday) features anything to do with electronics.
Running down the list, I see one that Rodrigo will like in the form of Age of Reptiles. Even though IDW Announced its Archie hardcover collections, it looks like Dark Horse is also going to be offering one up. I’ll have to follow up on this one. There’s also a new One-Shot program coming out of DHC, with the mighty Conan getting featured in the first one. Also featured will be Hellboy, Goon, and Dr. Horrible.
Finally, Final Fantasy fans will feel fantastic over the phenomenal Final Fantasy Boxed Set.

Following the release of the highly anticipated Dethklok vs. The Goon, Dark Horse Comics and Adult Swim announce a brand-new comics series based on the immensely popular animated show Metalocalypse. Over the years, Dark Horse has been committed to incorporating art into our everyday lives through prints, T-shirts, mugs, and a variety of other items that help make this world more colorful. With this in mind, Dark Horse is proud to collaborate with GelaSkins to bring over twenty new designs to their line of protective skins for laptops and phones.

Morgan Spurlock and Dark Horse Entertainment are teaming up to create a comic book based on Spurlock’s Super-Size Me documentary from a few years ago.
The book, “Supersized: Strange Tales From a Fast Food Culture,” will feature bizarre stories about the U.S.’s obsession with fast food that weren’t seen in the film while still hoping to make a point about health and nutrition. Spurlock will write the stories, with a mix of established and up-and-coming artists scripting and drawing the book. It is set for publication in the spring.
It will be really strange if this book is a mere 22-pages long.
