Or – “What He Means Is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, Real Wrath-Of-God Type Stuff.”

So, Marvel’s solicitations have been making a great mystery over who or what Norm-O’s “secret weapon” is. Last issue, we found that founding Dark Avenger Sentry has once again gone ‘El Bonzo Seco,’ and may have an agenda all his own. These two statements are probably related in some way, and since he is ostensibly the most powerful creature in the Marvel Universe, this could be “crossing-the-streams” bad…
Or – “Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About The Sentry…”

…but were too afraid he’d throw you into the sun to ask.
Or – “Where’s My Santa On The Shaver, Dammit?”

Sometimes the holidays turn into a blur of food and family and spectacle, like the Roman Empire right before the Dark Ages. When that happens, it’s good to have Rapid Fire Reviews: Reading the comics, so you don’t have to!
Or – “Whatever Happened To Noh-Varr?”

One of the more vexing things about the Dark Avengers title is the fact that, because of the timing of the stories, Noh-Varr (aka Marvel Boy and the latest Kree warrior to call himself Captain Marvel) disappeared from Norman’s team MONTHS ago our time, but has apparently been missing for approximately 16 minutes in the stories. This annual promises to tell us where the hero has been, but the question is, will the answers be meaningful, or will they just set up the next big crossover event?

Or – “When Venom Is The Voice Of Reason, Something Is Very, Very Wrong…”

“Wait, we’ve been bought out by WHO?”
Or would that be whom? I can never remember. But, man, the Dark Avengers certainly look surprised to see something, don’t they?

Or – “How To Do A Crossover…”

Hey, look! It’s the much-awaited return of AVENGERS DOUBLE-FEATURE!!! For some months now, the Olympian known as Ares has remained unaware of the activities that his son has been engaging in with Nick Fury’s Secret Warriors. That situation is about to change, and the God of War is about to register his discontent with Nicholas J. Fury. Parent/Teacher conferences have never been this interesting…
The Iron Patriot and Doctor Doom duke it out in December thanks to the team of Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Lark, and David Finch.
Or -”Want To Know How To Maximize Profitability?”

How about a cover featuring not ONE, but TWO Wolverine cameos, while simultaneously containing no Wolverine at all? It’s sort of like the state of having Tea and No Tea at the same time, causing the universe to implode… That’s deep, Ogre.
Or – “At What Point Did Cyclops Become Bad-A$$?”

So, there’s a war brewing in San Francisco, with the mutants on one side, and a cadre of “reformed” villains led by Norman Osborn on the other side, as well as a rogue faction in the form of Emma Frost’s Dark X-Men. Norman Osborn is counting on his position with the government to give him the edge he needs to put down Scott Summers and his people as easily as he put down Tony Stark and the Avengers. Of course, Tony Stark didn’t spend his entire teen and adult life as an outcast and an outlaw, and Tony Stark has seldom been the one with his back to the wall. (Tony Stark also doesn’t have big red eye-lasers comin’ outta his face, but, anyway… Bygones.)

As you might have guessed, Marvel Comics has announced Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Utopia has sold out at the distributor level (but may still be in your local store), prompting Marvel send the issue back to press.
Martial Law is declared in San Francisco to put an end the mutant rights riots and the Dark Avengers are sent to enforce it! Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Utopia Second Printing Variant features the interior art of Silvestri on a stylish new cover!
The $3.99 reprint arrives August 5, 2009.
Or – “We Hold These Comics To Be Self-Evident…”

Today is American Independence Day, commonly referred to as July 4th, as it takes place on the 4th of July, hence the name, and that’s why the song is called Alice’s Restaurant… To all the faithful Spoilerites of the United States, Happy 4th of July. For those of you who are from elsewhere, sorry about all the hegemony and stuff. Either way, it’s time for another bout of our Rapid Fire Reviews, bite-sized chunks of comics that I either couldn’t write three paragraphs about, or ran out of time to cover. Give us your tired, your poorly drawn, your huddled masses of comics, yearning to be bagged in mylar…
