Boom! Studios has released its schedule for the San Diego Comic-Con going on next week in SoCal.  We’ve already mentioned Stephen Baldwin will be making an appearance to sign preview copies of The Remnant.  There’s also going to be zombie make up and a Drink Up!/Gay Pride party at the Hyatt.

If you aren’t familiar with the recent issue with Doug Manchester, the owner of the Hyatt and his major donation to support Proposition 8 (only men and women can marry), you can read it here.  I say go to the Boom! Party to show your support for everyone.

SDCC’08: Steve Niles Signs At Radical Booth

Friday, July 18th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Steve_Niles_ComicCon.jpg

radicalpublishinglogoI mentioned the Steve Niles signing in passing yesterday, but today the full blown release information has been released.  Niles will indeed be signing at the Radical Publishing booth (#2806) next week during the San Diego Comic-Con.  He will appear two times at the booth:  Friday 1:00-2:00 PM and again on Saturday from 2:30 - 3:30 PM with Arthur Suydam.

Steve Niles will also be part of Radical Publishing’s Comic-Con panel on Friday from 2:30 - 3:30 PM promoting his 48-page prestige format City of Dust.  You’ll also be able to snag a free promotional copy of the issue at the company booth.

“CITY OF DUST blew me away,” exclaimed Barry Levine, Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher. “I love the concept behind Niles’ dark, desperate, dystopian world and the characters that inhabit it.  Detective Philip Khrome is a conflicted soul as only Steve can deliver. Radical is going big with this, we’ve commissioned covers from artists like Arthur Suydam, Clint Langley and Lucio Parrillo to kick off the first issue and expect our fans to reap the benefits from our unique promotional events for this title. It all starts at Comic-Con with our preview book.  I’m so happy to see Steve on board, not only for signing, but to join the names of Jim Steranko and Ian Edginton for our Comic-Con panel.”

Keep checking out the site, because there’s going to be virtual tons of information about SDCC’08 coming out in the next two weeks.

Boom! and Baldwin

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

stephenbaldwin.jpgIt’s a day of news from Boom! Studios. The company has announced a brand new project from Andrew Cosby and Stephen Baldwin called Remnant.

“I wanted to do a comic that asked the big questions but answered them in little ways,” said Baldwin.  “Philosophy and spirituality are complex beasts, but I believe literature’s purpose is to contextualize these tricky subjects into entertaining stories that speak, not preach, to the reader.”

Fans of Baldwin’s work can find the actor at San Diego Comic-Con signing special-edition preview books at the Boom! Studios booth.

Wrightson_in_Make_up.jpg

After a day at the San Diego Comic-Con I’ve seen people shuffling around in a daze almost like they were zombies.  This year, thanks to Boom! Studios, you can actually get made up to look like a zombie thanks to monster makeup artist John Wrightson.

T_Shirt_front.jpgWhat do you have to do to get this special treatment?  According to the company, simply buy a Boom! Studios Zombie t-shirt at the company booth (#2543).  The shirts cost $20 and feature the cover to Zombie Tales #3 by artist Shane Oakley.

“It’s the perfect plan!  People will be paying us to turn them into mindless drones who will follow my every whim!” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid.  “Soon, the world will be mine!  Don’t quote me.”

We won’t Mark, promise…
