Frank Cho Box Art

Saturday, February 16th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Check out these image of Frank Cho’s artwork for Hasbro’s Shanna-Kazar-Sabu Action Figures. Does this mean this will be a regular-run-to-the-local-toy-store-and-buy-figure?

You guys are probably wondering what these art are from. Hasbro recently hired me to do the box art for their massive action figure toys, which will contain Shanna, Kazar and Sabu.

These two are the art for the box flap.

The front will have a massive art by me with all three figures, Shanna-Kazar-Sabu.

I have to rescan the Shanna-Kazar-Sabu art and will give it to Ugo to post later.

This Hasbro action figure will debut in San Diego Comicon.

Cool. Now I can’t wait to see the figures.

Exclusive SCUD cover at WonderCon

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

scud21wondercon.jpegWell I’m sure this won’t endear Image Comics to the ComicsPRO folks, but the company will be selling an exclusive WonderCon variant cover to SCUD: The Disposable Assasin #21 at the show.

“Ashley Wood, Jim Mahfood, Dave Hartman and Doug Tennapel have been big supporters since the beginning and it meant a lot to have them covering #21-24,” said creator Rob Schrab. “However, as I finished the final pages I couldn’t resist the itch to illustrate one last SCUD cover myself.”

SCUD: The Disposable Assassin #21
SCUD: THE DISPOSABLE ASSASSIN #21 is the first of four issues detailing SCUD’s mission to destroy the planet in exchange for saving his lover’s soul. Schrab’s cover features SCUD emerging into the world, ten years later, mere seconds before he finds out nothing is as he remembers.

The issue will sell for $3.50.

“‘Smallville’ is shot just a couple hours north of Seattle and we’ve had many requests for an actor from the show to appear, so we’re very excited to have the lovely and talented Ms. Vandervoort out to the convention this year,” says Organizer Jim Demonakos. “In addition, Jamie Bamber, who plays ‘Apollo’ on the new ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ will also be appearing.”

In addition to the growing list of guests, the show has been gathering show exclusives for attendees. One of the latest is free copy of SuperPowers #0 with an exclusive variant cover by Alex Ross, that you can see after the jump.

Initial Guest List for Emerald City Con Announced

Thursday, September 13th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

emeraldcitycomiconpicon.jpg

Event organizer Jim Demonakos sent Major Spoilers the intial list of guests scheduled to appear at the Emerald City ComiCon in Seatle, Washington May 10th and 11th, 2008.

Now this may seem a wee early to be planning for a comic convention, but for those of you who are with kids know May gets to be pretty crazy with all the graduations, season finales, and general wackiness that infect kids during the month, so being able to plan ahead is key.

The line-up looks pretty sweet, so pencil in the con on your calendar now.

The list after the jump!

Baltimore Con: Michael Broussard Signs with Top Cow

Saturday, September 8th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

Michael Broussard_color.jpgDuring the Top Cow Productions panel at the Baltimore Comicon, it was announced Michael Broussard has signed a three year exclusive contract with the company.

Broussard began his career in 2006 as one of the hopefuls selected during Top Cow’s Talent Search and studied under Top Cow founder Marc Silvestri in the Top Cow Studio. His first published work appeared in Civil War: The Initiative where he assisted Silvestri and was quickly followed by his first solo professional work in Unholy Union, an over-sized crossover between Top Cow and Marvel characters written by Ron Marz (First Born, Witchblade). Broussard so impressed Top Cow Vice President of Editorial Rob Levin that he was given his biggest assignment to date and one of the crown jewels of Top Cow’s publishing line, the new The Darkness ongoing written by Phil Hester (Green Arrow, Deep Sleeper).

“Michael is one of those rare talents that is almost ready to go out of the box,” stated Levin in a prepared statement, “We’re incredibly thrilled to have secured him for our fans on The Darkness for years to come. Fans are going to be blown away by what he and Phil Hester do on this title.”

Take the jump for Broussard’s cover work for The Darkness First Look.

Thursday, September 6th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

imagecomicslogobaltimore.jpgImage Comics has announced its panels for this weekend’s Baltimore Comic-Con.

“Our next edition of the Image Comics Show will be a great one,” said PR & Marketing Coordinator and Image Comics Show host Joe Keatinge. “On tap for the panel will be Erik Larsen, Scott Kurtz, Dean Haspiel, CB Cebulski, Frank Cho and around half a dozen announcements I’m dying to reveal. We’re also doing a retrospective on the Mice Templar. Mike Oeming and Bryan J.L. Glass have been working on this book for around twenty years so we’ve dug into their archives to unearth never before seen conceptual art they’ll discuss during the show.”

Saturday
Mice Templar: A Retrospective
11:00-11:50 in The Batcave (Rm 318-320)

Sunday
The Image Comics Show
2:00-2:50 in Avengers Mansion (Rm 319-320)

Image also announced it is looking for people to videotape both panels for posting on teh Interwebs (contact Joe Keatinge at joekeatinge@imagecomics.com).

Keatinge added, “The first five people who contact me about filming both panels and throwing them on YouTube will receive a free copy of the Mice Templar #1 Retailer edition as well as a set of all four Image Comics 2007 convention exclusive prints! As this is our last convention of 2007 this may be your final chance to obtain these limited items!”

I know James Deckert will be attending the show and taking a ton of pictures for Major Spoilers, perhaps he or another Major Spoilers reader could help Image get its message out!
