Rockne S. O’Bannon to Write Farscape for Boom!

Saturday, July 26th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Man I love these video bits, makes my job so much easier.

“This is a dream opportunity for me - to get to continue the Farscape saga,” O’Bannon said. “The comic book series starts off directly where the PEACEKEEPER WARS mini-series left us. It’s like we’re finally getting to experience Season Five of Farscape. Not only that, but the stories in the ongoing comic series will completely tie into the upcoming Farscape webisodes. Farscape lives!”

SDCC’08: NBC’s Knight Rider Panel

Friday, July 25th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

NBC is doing it right by posting the entire panel to its events online.  Good news for fans of Knight Rider, good news for people who missed the event, good news for lazy bloggers who really don’t want to write about the event.

SDCC’08: NBC’s King Panel

Instead of having to write a complete wrap up of a panel I don’t particularly care for, NBC has done me a favor by posting the entire Kings panel for everyone to see.

Friday, July 25th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

joequesada.jpg

If you’ve been paying attention to the Marvel Sneak Peeks we run here at Major Spoilers, you know I have been highlighting increases in price to tip you off.  I’ve been following the price trend for the last two years, and today Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada gave his response to fans who are worried about high prices in a bad economy.

“I don’t make those kinds of decisions. We want to hold the line as long as we possibly can, but the world keeps spinning and unfortunately prices are going up everywhere. Sometiems you’re able to hold longer, sometimes you’re not. Honestly, I don’t have the answer for you.”

$4.50 by Christmas anyone?

SDCC’08: Disney Reups with Stan Lee

Friday, July 25th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Disney has renewed its first look pact with Stan Lee’s POW Entertainment.  This will be a two year deal that gives the House of Mouse the option of taking POW’s content and spinning it into television, publishing, games, and online or mobile content.

The first project spinning out of this deal is Lee’s Time Jumper, a digital comic book series that Disney will distribute across various media (web and mobile most likely).

Project revolves around the character of Terry Dixon, an agent of the secret government org HUNT (Heroes United, Noble and True), who has a cell phone called the Articulus that’s also a time machine. When his brother is lost in time, Terry must try to find him before an a criminal cartel does.

Previous to Time Jumper, POW and Disney have created Nick Ratchet, Blaze, and Tigress.

SDCC’08: Singer Fired Up Over Formula

Friday, July 25th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

freeformcov1.jpgBryan Singer’s Bad Hat Harry Productions has made several plays in the comic book marketplace, first snagging up Rob Liefeld’s Capeshooters, and now Radical Publishing’s Freedom Formula by Edmund Shern.

Freedom Formula is a five-issue mini-series that is very mecha-esque with exo-suits replacing fighter jets, and the racer who learns his bloodline has the power to change society.  Like Capeshooters, Singer will only produce this flick through his production company.

For Radicial, this is another feather in the cap of a week of major movie announcements.  With the hype over Freedom Formula, the company told Variety that it has plans to expand the comic book into interactive games and anime.

SDCC’08: Marvel Nabs Electric Ant

Friday, July 25th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

01picon.jpg

As reported earlier, Marvel has nabbed the rights to Philip K. Dick’s Electric Ant novel and plans to turn it into a mini-series.  I have a feeling most of you reading this are familiar with Dick’s work, but if you aren’t, his stuff is as close as you can get to near future reality with a heavy dose of mind warping paranoia and questioning of reality.

His work has been adapted into feature films like Blade Runner, Total Recal, Miniority Report, and more, and now his text work is getting the comic treatment with David Mack and Pascal Alixe on board to do the adaptation.  Overseeing the work will be Consulting Editor Brian Michael Bendis.
