As the voice of Black Lightning, LeVar Burton adds another level of fanboy cache to a cast thick with legends of the super hero genre in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, the next entry in the popular series of DC Universe animated original PG-13 movies.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies boasts a cast headed by the definitive voices of its three central characters – Kevin Conroy (Batman), Tim Daly (Superman) and Clancy Brown (Lex Luthor), the original voices from the landmark Superman: The Animated Series and Batman: The Animated Series.

Burton is forever beloved by the sci-fi crowd for his memorable performance as Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation and its feature film versions. However, Burton has done far more than go “where no man has gone before.”

In a career that essentially launched with his breakthrough performance in the landmark miniseries Roots, Burton has garnered seven Emmy Awards, three Image Awards, a Peabody as well as a Grammy, and in 1990 was permanently enshrined as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Since taking the Sci-Fi world by storm as Number Six in Battlestar Galactica, Helfer has seen her star rise on the entertainment front, scoring a key role throughout the second season of USA Network’s hit series Burn Notice, being featured in NBC’s Chuck and the upcoming Human Target, and dipping into the super hero realm as the voice of Black Cat in The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Helfer expands her voiceover career with her first feature-length film role as Boodikka, the most prominent female member of the Green Lantern Corps. Helfer joins Christopher Meloni, Victor Garber and Michael Madsen as the core quartet of voices in the film, supported by fine performances from Juliet Landau, John Larroquette, Kurtwood Smith and a host of others.

Green Lantern: First Flight will also have its world premiere at Comic-Con International in San Diego on Thursday, July 23.

Helfer is as genuine as she is beautiful, and she shared her thoughts on a variety of subjects in a Q&A following her final recording session for Green Lantern: First Flight. The topics of conversation included psychology, rod weeding, an unfulfilled mastering of Frogger, a Star Trek-based fear of earwigs, and … well … read it for yourself.

The Adam Reed action/comedy show Archer has been picked up for a six episode run on the FX Channel.  Archer follows ISIS, an international spy agency, where the employees cause more havoc than getting any training done.

There’s some NSFW material in the video (bad language), so beware if your speakers are cranked up in the office.

“It is a smart, adult comedy,” said Nick Grad, executive vp original programming at FX. “It clearly fits the FX brand, and we believe it will find support from the fans of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.’ “

No date has been set for the six ep debut.

While some of you may not be fans of the live action Scooby-Doo movies, I wonder if you feel the same way about the announcement there’s a Hong Kong Phooey live action flick in the works?

Project’s an adaptation of the 1970s Hanna-Barbera animated TV series, about a police station janitor who becomes a dog with mystical powers, including the ability to do kung fu.

The movie is being produced by Brett Ratner, Jay Stern, Broderick Johnson, and Andrew Kosove.

I wonder how this movie will play out.  Will it be live action with a CGI dog?  I’d be up for that, especially if they didn’t try to make it look too much like that weird Cats vs. Dogs movie.  Perhaps the Phooey will be replace by a live person, but that might make it too much like Iron Fist.  The only thing I do know is whoever plays the title role will never live up to Scatman Crothers.

Animation legend Bruce Timm puts the spotlight on character designer Jose Lopez and screenwriter Alan Burnett for their other-worldly creations on Green Lantern: First Flight, the next entry in the popular series of DC Universe animated original PG-13 movies from Warner Premiere, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation.

Timm, the executive producer on Green Lantern: First Flight, has been the driving creative force behind many of Warner Bros. Animation’s modern-day successes, elevating DC Comics’ canon of super heroes to new heights of animated popularity and introducing generations of new fans to the characters via landmark television series and made-for-DVD films. The latter task includes the creation of the current series of DC Universe animated original movies, which have drawn critical acclaim and further whetted the public’s appetite for comic book entertainment with the release of Superman Doomsday, Justice League: The New Frontier, Batman Gotham Knight and Wonder Woman.

In the midst of producing several more films for the DC Universe series, Timm paused briefly to offer praise for two of the key players in the production of Green Lantern: First Flight – character designer Jose Lopez and screenwriter Alan Burnett.

Comedy Central has confirmed that it has ordered up a new batch of Futurama episodes to air on the cable channel beginning in 2010.  Twenty-six episodes have been ordered, and Billy West and John DiMaggio have both signed to return to the long running on again off again animated series.

“It’s sweet, and basically everybody who has worked on the show wants to come back,” Matt Groening said. “I choose to believe it’s more than the economic situation. People had a good time working on this show.”

While Comedy Central may look to be sitting in the cat-bird seat, 20th Century Fox does have the option of turning the first broadcast rights to the new episodes to a broadcast network (i.e. Fox) if the series takes off, or becomes financially viable again.  Seems like a crappy deal for Comedy Central, but in this case, its the fans that win as we’re able to get more Bender/Fry action real soon.
