More than two decades after its television premiere, the popular Ruby-Spears Superman animated series returns to TV screens via Warner Home Video as a two-disc DVD collection of cartoons. The DVD is available today, November 3.

Debuting in 1988, the Ruby-Spears Superman series brought back some familiar foes and new unfriendly faces for battles against the Man of Steel.  In addition to the thrills of Superman’s weekly adventures, each episode included a mini-segment called Superman Family Album that told the “real” story of what it was like to grow up as the most powerful boy in Smallville.

Viacom has purchased the world wide rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise for a real steal at $60 million. Nickelodeon is now in the process of developing a new animated television series, and a feature film to be released through Paramount Pictures.

Its goal with TMNT is to reintroduce the franchise to existing and potential fans across various media platforms. The deal also gives Nick all merchandising rights, and the company will continue to work with the franchise’s longtime partner, Playmates Toys.

Both the feature film and animated series are scheduled to arrive in 2012.

If you fell in love with The Simpsons Movie, and were hoping to see more of the yellow skinned family on the big screen, you’re going to have to wait a while.  Simpsons creators Matt Groening and Al Jean that the task of producing a movie and a television show was just too much to handle, so they’ve put any new movie plans on hold, at least until the television series wraps production.

When might the television show end?  The show, now in its 21st year shows no signs of slowing, and as long as Groening and Fox can get along, we could see the animated series go for another five years, easily.

“It took 18 years to get around to doing the movie,” Groening said. “We got very frustrated. We thought it would take two years but it ended up taking four. Some day maybe we’ll do another one — but don’t hold your breath.”

As the voice of Black Lightning, LeVar Burton adds another level of fanboy cache to a cast thick with legends of the super hero genre in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, the next entry in the popular series of DC Universe animated original PG-13 movies.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies boasts a cast headed by the definitive voices of its three central characters – Kevin Conroy (Batman), Tim Daly (Superman) and Clancy Brown (Lex Luthor), the original voices from the landmark Superman: The Animated Series and Batman: The Animated Series.

Burton is forever beloved by the sci-fi crowd for his memorable performance as Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation and its feature film versions. However, Burton has done far more than go “where no man has gone before.”

Since taking the Sci-Fi world by storm as Number Six in Battlestar Galactica, Helfer has seen her star rise on the entertainment front, scoring a key role throughout the second season of USA Network’s hit series Burn Notice, being featured in NBC’s Chuck and the upcoming Human Target, and dipping into the super hero realm as the voice of Black Cat in The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Helfer expands her voiceover career with her first feature-length film role as Boodikka, the most prominent female member of the Green Lantern Corps. Helfer joins Christopher Meloni, Victor Garber and Michael Madsen as the core quartet of voices in the film, supported by fine performances from Juliet Landau, John Larroquette, Kurtwood Smith and a host of others.

Green Lantern: First Flight will also have its world premiere at Comic-Con International in San Diego on Thursday, July 23.

Helfer is as genuine as she is beautiful, and she shared her thoughts on a variety of subjects in a Q&A following her final recording session for Green Lantern: First Flight. The topics of conversation included psychology, rod weeding, an unfulfilled mastering of Frogger, a Star Trek-based fear of earwigs, and … well … read it for yourself.
