Or – “The Story Takes Place In The Past…Â I HAD To Wait To Review It.”
I am soooo late. I can’t even begin to tell you what has happened in the last couple of weeks, other than to say that I think my hair hurts. As for the comic books, the show must go on, even when creators move on or editorial caveats force change. Geoff Johns brought Booster Gold back into the public eye, but now that he’s moved on, how will the book fare? No better way to find out then to click…
The Booster Gold title has been one of the biggest surprises in recent years. No one ever thought that Booster Gold could be developed in to a comic title that anyone would actually pine for. But with Geoff Johns writing all bets are off apparently, as Booster Gold #09 continues the mind-blowing adventures of Booster and his best friend, Blue Beetle.
Following after last month’s Booster Gold 00 issue, which was the last tie in to DC’s Zero Hour storyline of 1994, Booster Gold 07 picks up where it left off. Booster and his best friend, now returned from the dead, Blue Beetle, are being attacked by Max Lord’s OMACs.
However immediately you begin to get the sense that we’ve entered another of the 52 universes. Things are just not right, and we see more of this as the book continues.
“Zero Hour? Again?”
When you ask the comic fans of my father’s generation you normally don’t get a lot of good things said about Booster Gold. He was self aggrandizing, selfish, moronic and nowhere near the top flight of heroes that were the beloved at the time. And, really, that’s the whole point isn’t it; Dan Jurgens couldn’t have created a more perfect character.
Don’t drink and time travel
Some of you may be old enough to remember Crisis on Infinite Earths that featured heroes from the present fighting along side heroes from the old west. Only in comics could something like this play out and play out well. We haven’t seen this kind of crossover for a while, and with the word Crisis being tossed around the offices of DC Comics, it seems like a perfect time to bring the two together again. I like my westerns, and I like my superheroes, but do I like superheroes in my westerns? It’s two great tastes that taste great together in Booster Gold #3.
Booster v. Sinestro
Time travel adventures are going to be a pretty hot item over the next couple of years. Legion of Super-heroes are bouncing all around time, Journeyman is scoring high on NBC, and Booster Gold and Rip Hunter are tripping through the time stream. The debut issue was an awesome smack in the face that made me want to follow the adventures of Rip, Booster, and Skeets. As I swim through my growing pile of issues not yet read, issue #2 floated to the surface. Did Geoff Johns and Jeff Katz hit another ball out of the ballpark? Will Blue Beetle be resurrected? And what is up with Supernova?
We already know Booster Gold will sell out to make a buck, but the first issue has taken the phrase literally and sold out at DC Comics (as opposed to selling out at the distributor level) and is going back for a second printing.
The new printing will arrive in stores October 3 with a recolored version of the original cover by Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund.

Make sure you look at the panel after the Parting Shot
A year ago, about the time Booster Gold was disgraced in the eyes of Earth-1, Dan DiDio said Booster would become one of the best loved heroes of 52. Turns out he was right, but I never got the impression Booster was the hero of 52. I really got the feeling there was more to the Booster Gold is THE hero of the DCU than was let on in that series. If 52 saw Booster Gold in the minor leagues, then Booster Gold #1 sees Michael Jon Carter get the call to call from upstairs. If you are looking for a jump on book, this is it.
“This is the end…the end my friend, the end…”
So this is it, the final bow, the big finale, the wrap up of the weekly series that has propelled some of the lesser known DC Characters to the forefront and engrossed readers for an entire year. This week, most of the unanswered questions get answered, Mr. Mind gets even more vile, the official return of the Multiverse, the return of someone we thought dead, and an appearance by someone who is apparently still dead.
Time to wrap up all the loose ends
Trips across the country to attend conventions, moving to new digs, trips to the hospital, and the rush to get caught back up with Major Spoilers pale in comparison to the traveling around the universe, trips through time and the rush to try and wrap up 52 in a neat and tidy package. This week my 52 review returns just in the nick of time.

Booster Gold Returns!
As much as I have loved reading 52 and making speculations throughout, it is often good know at least one of my wild speculations have paid off. This week offers three big reveals that are really not that big of a surprise if you have been following closely. The first is a no-brainer (look at the subhead), the second is a relief, and the third has been sitting in front of your face for at least six months. If you don’t like Major Spoilers, turn back now!

Booster Gold is Rip Hunter, and more wild speculations.
Week Nineteen is filled with so much time twisting goodness; it not only brings up millions of questions, but makes you question who’s who in the DC Universe. This week’s review is filled with wild speculation that seems like it might just be right.
The House of Mystery Mystery
A locked door, a dead detective, and Dr. Fate’s helmet. The solution to this mystery can only be solved by a great detective. Batman’s out of the country, so the next best on the list is Ralph Dibny.

Booster Gold Memorial Issue
Today we mourn the loss of Booster Gold. He went out with a bang – literally.
Week fifteen finds Booster Gold at his lowest point. His sponsors have all backed out, bills are overdue, and Supernova is taking all his glory. Instead of going the route of Ralph Dibny and putting a gun to his mouth, Booster shows he is a true superhero when a submarine accident in midtown Metropolis gives him hope of redeeming himself.
