Diamond Select Toys has announced it will be giving away its Battlestar Galactica Chief Tyrol action figure to the first 750 people to give blood during the Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive at the San Diego Comic-Con.

“After the last three years’ extremely successful campaigns, we’re delighted to once again be contributing to the Robert A Heinlein Blood Drive,” said Chuck Terceira, Director of Diamond Select Toys in a prepared statement.  “They’ve broken three consecutive records, so we’re hoping for even more blood to be donated this year!”

Wouldn’t it have been cooler to give away that SDCC exclusive blood splattered Cylon to those that participated?

Galactica Ends, Caprica Begins

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

bsg.jpg

The Sci Fi Channel has given the green light for the two-hour pilot movie Caprica - the prequel to the revived, and quite popular, Battlestar Galactica.

“Battlestar Galactica” is concluding its 3½-year run with 20 final episodes this year. Its “Caprica” prequel begins production in Vancouver in the spring. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, the exec producers of “Galactica,” will join with Universal Media Studios to work on “Caprica.” Rene Aubuchon will co-write the “Caprica” pilot with Moore, and Jeff Reiner will direct it. Casting begins soon.

The news was announced this week at the Sci Fi Channel’s upfront presentation in New York City. The Caprica series has been rumored for a couple of years now, so it is good to see it finally make its way to the small screen. At this time no cast members have been announced, but if it is a prequel to the Battlestar Galactica series, one would think some of the major characters (Boomer, oh please let it be Boomer) will appear. Here’s hoping it is good enough to spin off a series of its own that is as good as BSG became.

BSG Does the Last Supper

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Did not expect to see this image this morning.

bsglastsupper.jpg

In a word - awesome. In a few words; the last supper reference is done rather well in that it both symbolizes the last season of the show, and potentially the end of all cylons, with several (Six included) looking to sacrifice herself (itself?) for the good of all. (click for larger image)

BSG Minimates in Stores This Week

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Check out the collection of Battlestar Galactica Minimates that arrive in stores this week to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original show. Not only do you get original scary cylons, there’s also Starbuck, Apollo, Muffit, and don’t forget Daggit.

Heh…Daggit…

001_big.jpg

What’s great about this collection is you can play with it alongside your new BSG figures (Starbuck vs. Starbuck) or Marvel and DC minimates. Not that I would know anything about that… really…

The new (and final) season of Battlestar Galactica kicks off soon, and thankfully it looks like we’ll make it through the year without an updated Daggit.

Battlestar Galactica: Origins

Friday, October 12th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

picon.jpg

Hot on the heels of of Battlestar Galactica: Season Zero comes yet another BSG story that gives us bigger insight into the events leading up to the attack on Caprica.

Issue #1 of the new Battlestar Galactica: Origins comic book series explores the origins of Gaius Baltar and his life and loves that lead up to the second Cylon War. Fans of both Sci-Fi’s re-imagined Battlestar Galactica television series and Dynamite’s New Battlestar Galactica comic books series know Gaius Baltar as the brilliant computer scientist who unintentionally brought about the near-annihilation of the human species. Of course, where Gaius Baltar is found, that sexy cylon known as Six is sure to be close at hand, haunting and influencing his fear of discovery.

Considering Sci-Fi is ending Battlestar Galactica this year, Dynamite Entertainment could really rack up the bucks if they followed up next year with Battlestar Galactica: Season 5.

Take the jump for the two covers of the four issue series.
