It looks like using Obama on the cover of your comic book has finally reached spoof proportions, as it seems more and more publishers are starting to use the Commander-in-Chief’s likeness in a humorous way, while still crossing their fingers that it will sell more issues.

Case in point – Army of Darkness: Ash Saves Obama: A New Hope.

“We’ve addressed this a bit, but for the record, there’s a lot of skepticism about all these Obama appearances in comics these days,” said Dynamite Associate Editor Joe Rybandt. “But hands down, we feel this is the best out of all of them, because really, no one else gets to throw Ash, Obama, a comic book convention and hordes of Deadites into one four issue series mixed in with the realism of President Obama trying to help save the auto industry. So, for all the “posting haters” out there, we’ve heard them all (and even came up with a few of our own): Army of Darkness: Beating a Deadite Horse, Army of Darkness: Jumping the Deadite Shark, Army of Darkness: What, Again? – of wait, that’s the sequel we’ve got brewing… and so on.”

This is a four-issue mini-series written by Elliott Serrano, and debuts in August, 2009.

Wow…Scrappy Doo finally get’s his day as Bluewater Productions swipes his catchphrase and uses it as the banner for the upcoming Bo Obama comic book that is part of the company’s Political Power series.  I can understand the President Obama and Joe Biden issues, as Obama isn’t getting nearly enough coverage in the comic press, while VP Biden seems to have all but disappeared since October, but the first dog?  That’s a new one to me.

Press release after the jump!

If there’s one thing his presidency has proven – Barack Obama can sell comic books. IDW Publishing is back with another Barack Obama themed comic, this time looking at his first 100 days in office.

(San Diego, CA; February 28, 2009) — Capture history with IDW Publishing’s new comic book series about America’s 44th president, Barack Obama. Hot on the heels of IDW’s repeatedly sold out Presidential Material: Barack Obama comic (now in its fifth printing), this two-issue series will chronicle then-Senator Obama from his Greek column-framed acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in August, through the 100th day of his groundbreaking administration.

“This is a momentous period in our country’s history, and IDW wanted to document it,” said Scott Dunbier, editor of the Obama biography comics at IDW. “Coming from the same creative team that did the initial Obama comic, Barack Obama is a great series for both comic book and political fans.”

Barack Obama #1 debuts in June and will feature 22 pages of historic moments, beginning with the Democratic National Convention and running through the election and inauguration. Barack Obama #2 starts on day one for the 44th President, and will capture the highs and lows of his first 100 days—it is a story that is still unfolding even now.

The Barack Obama follow up series will match the same high standards set forth by Presidential Material: Barack Obama, and strives to be just as meticulously researched and unbiased in its reporting. Jeff Mariotte and Tom Morgan return as writer and artist, while artist J. Scott Campbell once again supplies the iconic covers.

With all the Obamanizing of comics, expect to see the president’s visage gracing comic book covers for the next four years.
