Michael Broussard_color.jpgDuring the Top Cow Productions panel at the Baltimore Comicon, it was announced Michael Broussard has signed a three year exclusive contract with the company.

Broussard began his career in 2006 as one of the hopefuls selected during Top Cow’s Talent Search and studied under Top Cow founder Marc Silvestri in the Top Cow Studio. His first published work appeared in Civil War: The Initiative where he assisted Silvestri and was quickly followed by his first solo professional work in Unholy Union, an over-sized crossover between Top Cow and Marvel characters written by Ron Marz (First Born, Witchblade). Broussard so impressed Top Cow Vice President of Editorial Rob Levin that he was given his biggest assignment to date and one of the crown jewels of Top Cow’s publishing line, the new The Darkness ongoing written by Phil Hester (Green Arrow, Deep Sleeper).

“Michael is one of those rare talents that is almost ready to go out of the box,” stated Levin in a prepared statement, “We’re incredibly thrilled to have secured him for our fans on The Darkness for years to come. Fans are going to be blown away by what he and Phil Hester do on this title.”

Take the jump for Broussard’s cover work for The Darkness First Look.

imagecomicslogobaltimore.jpgImage Comics has announced its panels for this weekend’s Baltimore Comic-Con.

“Our next edition of the Image Comics Show will be a great one,” said PR & Marketing Coordinator and Image Comics Show host Joe Keatinge. “On tap for the panel will be Erik Larsen, Scott Kurtz, Dean Haspiel, CB Cebulski, Frank Cho and around half a dozen announcements I’m dying to reveal. We’re also doing a retrospective on the Mice Templar. Mike Oeming and Bryan J.L. Glass have been working on this book for around twenty years so we’ve dug into their archives to unearth never before seen conceptual art they’ll discuss during the show.”

Saturday
Mice Templar: A Retrospective
11:00-11:50 in The Batcave (Rm 318-320)

Sunday
The Image Comics Show
2:00-2:50 in Avengers Mansion (Rm 319-320)

Image also announced it is looking for people to videotape both panels for posting on teh Interwebs (contact Joe Keatinge at joekeatinge@imagecomics.com).

Keatinge added, “The first five people who contact me about filming both panels and throwing them on YouTube will receive a free copy of the Mice Templar #1 Retailer edition as well as a set of all four Image Comics 2007 convention exclusive prints! As this is our last convention of 2007 this may be your final chance to obtain these limited items!”

I know James Deckert will be attending the show and taking a ton of pictures for Major Spoilers, perhaps he or another Major Spoilers reader could help Image get its message out!

Anthony Forgione had a great time at the Baltimore Convention, and was kind enough to let Major Spoilers post his report. He also has an Adam Hughes sketch for sale at his site. Take it away Anthony…

Hey All,

Just wanted to post an update after another wonderful Baltimore Comicon. For me the show started a bit rocky with Adam Hughes cancellation. Despite that news, there was a healthy line outside the convention center early Saturday morning. While waiting I had the pleasure of chatting with Baltimore stalwarts like Dave Bartee (Hi!), Dennis McGlynn, and Terry Peterson, and met new acquaintances like Esther Park and others. The most common discussion topic of course was “since Adam’s not here, who are you going for?”

Lee Benaka had time this weekend to head to the Baltimore Con and sent this report.

Good afternoon! I just got back from Baltimore, where my son and I ended up having a great time despite an inauspicious beginning where the Convention Center was evacuated within 10 minutes of us arriving. That was OK, because it was about lunchtime anyway. After some sushi, we made it back in, and I was delighted to see the swirl of activity at the booth where Ron Wilson and Keith Pollard were sitting. Jeff Jaworski was working up a sweat handling art sales and keeping the commission lists straight. Keith had what looked like his entire family with him, and I hope they were having a good time. I got to say hi to Ron, and he seemed like a very nice gentleman. It was a treat to see John Romita Jr. give Ron a hug. They obviously had not seen each other in a while. I imagine it was somewhat like old home week for Keith and Ron. I left a sketchbook with Jeff in hopes of getting a Thing head sketch when things calmed down a bit for Ron.

My son and I managed to get some great sketches from some very kind artists, including John Snyder (who always draws very sharp “minimalist” superhero sketches and is very pleasant to chat with); Norman Lee (who was super-nice to my boy, even giving him a free Marvel Adventures comic); Neil Vokes (who drew a fantastic Mr. Fantastic); Mike Hawthorn (always great to see and a real talent); Andy Runton (who had some great Owly t-shirts and plushes for sale); and an artist I had never met before (last name Neeley, I think, another really nice fellow) who drew Smurfette for my daughter.

I didn’t get to chat enough with folks at the show, but it was nice to at least say hi quickly to Philip Churchill, Will Gabri-El, Jim Warden, and Michael Lovitz. I wish I had made time to say howdy to Chuck Costas and Mike Burkey, who I saw talking to other folks, but there was just too much to do and take in. So hi, guys! I hope everyone else is having or had a great time in Baltimore.
