Ralph Tedesco from Zenescope Entertainment sent word that comic artist Andrew Mangum is battling cancer. To help, Zenescope has set up an auction to raise money for medical costs.
The auction includes some very rare Zenescope items like GRIMM FAIRY TALES #1 first printing and GRIMM FAIRY TALES #16 limited edition exclusive with cover art by Andrew himself. Many other artists are donating sketches and original artwork, etc. so I just wanted to make people aware of the situation.
AUCTION INFORMATION:
Comic Book artist Andrew Mangum has recently been diagnosed with cancer and his family is holding a benefit auction for him on September 5th. Andrew has worked for DC, Zenescope, Image and others.
The auction includes some incredible artwork from a multitude of artists as well as rare and hard to find comic book issues that Andrew has worked on. Every little bit does help. For more information check out the auction link here: http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryRoom.asp?GSub=85567
If you’re wanting to pick up some original art, and help out, head over to the site.

We’ve all seen the Hasbro Mighty Muggs based off the Star Wars univers – heck my son has a couple in his room right now – and now you have a chance to win an original Star Wars Mighty Mugg and help out a good cause. Lucasfilm asked artists, comic book creators, toy designers, and celebrities to create their own Star Wars Mighty Mugg and put them up for auction to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Take the jump for a peek at some of the items you can bid on, but you better hurry – the auction ends August 14, 2009.
Those who troll around eBay are sure to find some spectacular pop culture items if one looks long enough, and has deep enough pockets. While a working replica of Tom Servo may only set you back a couple hundred bucks, you’re going to need a lot more than $45,000 to pick up the original car used in the Ghostbusters movie.
There is not a lot that can be said about this car once you see it you know what it is. This car was owned by Universal Studios as you can see by the copy of the title. This is the real Universal car not a copy. The car runs and drives good it has new tires on it know. The car is in a car Museum right now, when it goes on tour it draws a VERY VERY LARGE crowd.
Surely in this economy, people have to be beating down the door for this car. If you want to attract a crowd at your next convention (and make some money on the side) this may not be a bad deal. The auction has unfortunately ended, but there is a phone number to call the seller. Perhaps you can work out a deal.

If you haven’t taken a peek at the Jos Medors Benefit Auction now up on eBay, give it a peek, as there are some really great pieces up for sale, all going to a good cause.
You can see them all as they list at:

From Dave Kopecki
Contributing artists include Frank Frazetta, Nat Jones, Tim Seeley, Mike Allred, Josh Medors (of course), Ben Templesmith, Steve Kurth, Nick Bradshaw, Mark Kidwell, Andrew Mangum, Ryan Winn, Richard Moore, Randy Kintz, Ken Haeser, Buz Hassen, Colleen Doran, Phil Hester, John Stinsman, Russ Maheras, Matt Martin, Rob Doria, and many more.
Because of the collectors who donated art, we also have great pieces by artists who weren’t able to contribute themselves, like Dave Finch, Tyler Kirkham, Khoi Pham, Jason Howard, John Romita Jr, Ethan Van Sciver,Georges Jeanty, Scott Clark, Steve McNiven, and so many more! Plus, there was a huge number of largely unknown and/or amateur artists who donated some great work, so there should be great art for every price range! And with how much we’ll be listing, you may get an unheard of deal on some of these goodies, on top of helping a good cause.
Please take a look at the auctions on Ebay running all this week, and maybe throw down a bid or two. The cause is noble, the art and selection is great, and together we can make a difference!
Yes, we can.

Saved Whiskers Rescue Organization, Inc. announced today that placing up for auction original art drawn by artist Walter Simonson, who had donated drawings of his signature characters Thor and arch enemy Loki characters – auctioned off in memory of one of the greatest and nicest artists who had ever lived - Mike Wierningo – back in September ‘07, and won by Dynamite President Nick Barrucci. Mr. Barrucci is now donating for a charity that he believes Mike Wieringo would have appreciated – Nick is donating his original Marvel’s Thor piece by Walt Simonson and Marvel’s Loki by Mr. Simonson as 2 donations of original pieces of art to the Saved Whiskers Rescue Organization, Inc. (S.W.R.O.).

Image creator Josh Medors has been battling cancer for some time, and it looks like his current treatment isn’t help, prompting him to look for alternate treatment. Josh doesn’t have medial insurance.
To help with the medical expenses, Dave Kopecki is putting together an auction to help out. Check out the letter he sent out, and if you can help, please do.

Seems interest in Blade Runner is returning to an all time high – first it was Boom! Studios announcing plans to release a 24 issue maxi-series covering Philip K. Dick’s story, now I find out Profiles in History is auctioning off Harrison Ford’s Deckard gun from the Blade Runner movie.
Only one hero firing weapon was made for the production which was created by mating a Steyr-Mannlicher Model .222 SL receiver on to a Charter Arms .44 police bulldog double-action revolver. It features custom amber grips, dual triggers, and futuristic illuminating LEDs (four red and two green) that can be activated by a small switch mounted beneath the barrel.
If you want to pick this piece of awesome up, you’ll need to make sure you are recession proof as the gun is expected to sell between $100,000 and $150,000. And if you do pick this gun up, how ’bout helping your friends at Major Spoilers out?

This week, the Action Comics #1 auction closed fetching just over $317,000. Now the first appearance of Spider-Man is up for grabs as Jonathan Ross is offering up his copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 in Verty Good to Very Good Plus condition. Unlike the Action Comics auction, the proceeds of the Amazing Fantasy #15 sale go to Red Nose Day for Comic Relief.
The auction ends March 28, 2009. The current bid is £2,025, and will climb much higher.

Action Comics #1
It went less than speculators had originally thought, but $317,200 is a pretty good take on an issue that cost the owner $.35 when he originally purchased it at a second hand store 50 years ago. The unrestored Action Comics #1 (one of 20 in existence) was purchased by John Dolmayan, the drummer for System of a Down.
But here’s where it gets interesting – Dolmayan, is also a dealer of the rare comic books, and instead of purchasing the 1938 issue for himself, JOhn purchased it on behalf of an unidentified client.
“Maybe in a booming economy, it would have done a hundred grand more, but in this economy, I think the price is great,” said Stephen Fishler co-owner of ComicConnect.com.

TwoMorrows Publishing is auctioning off a limited edition hardcover copy of their new book, The Extraordinary Works of Alan Moore: Indispensable Edition, autographed by “Watchmen” and “V For Vendetta” author Alan Moore. All proceeds from this auction go to THE HERO INITIATIVE, a federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping comic book creators in need. The auction can be found on eBay.

The unrestored copy of Action Comics #1 has reached a bid height of $275,000. There are still eleven days left in the auction for the comic book that ushered in the superhero genre. While 80% of the 100 Action Comics that still remain have been restored, so it is the CGC 6.0 copy that has some speculating the bid could reach as high as a million dollars before it is all over.
What say you Major Spoilers Legion? If money were no object, how much would you be willing to pay for an unrestored 6.0 copy of the first appearance of the Man of Steel? And, if you discovered this rare gem under your grandmother’s unmentionables when you were going through her things for an estate sale, would you keep it, or sell it?

Last week, we told you about the Profiles in History auction where you can spend your hard earned cash to own a piece of Hollywood memorabilia. Digging around the World Web Internets like we always do, lead us to discover another auction coming up in January that is auctioning off a ton of Battlestar Galactia props.
What looks good on this list? In addition to detailed set plans and sketches, Tricia Helfer’s red dress is sure to get someone’s interest. You’re going to have to spend between $10,000 and $12,000 to get it, and it doesn’t come with Tricia Helfer. The one I want? The full size Cylon Raider, made of metal, foam, and wood, that measures 29 feet by 18.6 feet by 4.8 feet. Whoever pays the $40,000 for this is going to need a warehouse to store this thing. One day, when Major Spoilers makes a huge profit, and Major Spoilers HQ buys its own building, we’ll get one of these for the lobby.
The auction takes place on Saturday, January 17, 2009 and Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Pasadena Convention Center. If you can’t afford, check out preview day, which is open to the public.
NOTE: If anyone goes to this, let me know, we want lots of pictures!
