This issue: The Major Spoilers Crew welcome Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener to the show for a cover to cover discussion of Atomic Robo volume 3, number 1.
Depicting the adventures of the eponymous fictional character created by 8-Bit Theater writer Brian Clevinger and artist Scott Wegener, Atomic Robo began as a six issue mini-series published by Red 5 Comics starting in October 2007. This week on the Major Spoilers Podcast, the crew is welcoming Atomic Robo artist Scott Wegener to the show. While I want to feature one of his Atomic Robo sketches, I was more taken with this Batgirl sketch.

I didn’t realize my birthday and Christmas arrived on the same day this year, and I was even more surprised to discover that both of these major holidays fell in the last week of April. Someone must not have told Hallmark about the change, but at least Red 5 remembered to send a gift in the form of Atomic Robo: Shadow Beyond TIme #1.

Of all the issues coming out this week, Red 5 Comics is standing by with what I believe to be the most anticipated issue of the season – Atomic Robo: Shadow from Beyond Time. Atomic Robo is one of the best ongoing series out there, and if you haven’t picked up the adventures of this Tesla created automaton, now’s your chance.

Probably the best first week news of 2009 – Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener are working on getting the third and fourth volumes of Atomic Robo in our greasy little hands this year.
Beyond that we’ve got Volume 3, Atomic Robo and the Shadow From Beyond Time coming up for pre-order in…uh…weeks? Months? Not 100% on that one. It’s soon though, I promise you that! And, yes, we’re doing another story for Free Comic Book Day this year. Look for that at your local retailers in May.

If you thought the second volume of Atomic Robo was spinning its wheels, you might want to pick up the fifth issue and give it a read. The Sparrow is out, Milligan is in, and Robo has to stop the greatest weapon ever developed.

When last we left the title character and his British secret service companion, they were stuck on a train, headed for a cliff, and battling some horrific scientific Nazi experiments gone wrong. If you thought Robo and Sparrow were doomed, then you probably haven’t been reading comics that long.
In which Robo meets the Sparrow, and all hell breaks loose

Can you believe it’s been a full year since the first Atomic Robo issue hit the stands, rocking the world of Major Spoilers, and making us fans of the snarky robot with a past that goes all the way back to Nikola Tesla? Can you believe this is the second review in a row, Tesla has made an appearance? Did you know I still can’t afford the Tesla automobile (ahem – tip jar to the right)? Did you know Atomic Robo once had a fellow espionage agent in Europe? Should I stop asking questions, and get to the damn review?

I’m a robot, and you’re a brain in a jar…

The final issue of the adventures of the Tesla created robot sits before me – a culmination of a story that has been building for over 70 years as Atomic Robo faces his most diabolical foe. As this is the last issue in this series, it begs the question, “Does Atomic Robo rock, or should he be left to rust?”
