Crossovers are one of those occurrences in comics where a character from one title appears in the pages of another title and vice versa.  Generally, these events happen in the pages of titles from large publishers, and is a way to remind readers that the company’s universe is big and organic. Invincible, on the other hand, works perfectly well as a stand-alone universe in and of itself, so when characters begin to make more than a referential appearance in the pages, I get a bit concerned.

wolfman08.jpgI guess Robert Kirkman has too many hours in the day, because Image comics has announced the Kirkman, Jason Howard Astounding Wolf-Man will turn into a monthly title this July.

“Frankly, I just couldn’t stay patient,” ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN co-creator and writer Robert Kirkman said. “Over the past year THE ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN has become one of my favorite books to write and, even more so, seeing the pages pour in from Jason has made me crave MORE! With the impending shocker we’ve got coming in issue 7, we decided to switch the book from once every sixty days to every thirty! I certainly think folks will be happy with the results.”

The 32-page Astounding Wolf-Man #8 will arrive July 30, 2008.

Image is very excited about the third sell-out in a row for its Jason Howard and Robert Kirman Astounding Wolf-Man. The company said it will be going back to press with an all-new cover by Ryan Ottley and Kelsey Shannon.

Kirkman said, “With Jason plowing away at the next issue of Wolf-Man I thought it would be a real treat for the fans to see INVINCIBLE artist Ryan Ottley’s take on our new hero. We even recruited the talents of BASTARD SAMURAI’s Kelsey Shannon to pretty up the image. They really knocked it out of the park. I think fans will be very pleased.”

The 2nd printing of Astounding Wolf-Man #3 arrives in October. Take the jump for the full Ottley cover.

According to Image Comics the sale of The Astounding Wolf-Man by Robert Kirkman and Jason Howard have been going strong, even though the company sent double the stock to retailers free of charge.

It’s really thrilling to have so many people react so positively to the book,” added Howard. “Robert and I have been working on promoting the book intensely over the last year or so. Seeing it pay off so highly means a lot.”

This makes me wonder, “Are we seeing a resurgence of werewolves and wolf-men due in part to the flood of zombie stories that we are now getting sick of?
